Has anyone got any insight into the current closures? Is this a case of not enough equipment/staff (due to travel routes etc) for the current volume of snowfall? I can't seem to remember this much of a struggle with last years snow fall.

It's rediculous really. 2 inches of snow and the airport grinds to a halt. What are they using to clear the runway etc, shovels?

Airport closed till 10AM.

Volume of snow

This is the worst snow I've seen, it's not surprising it is causing havoc, a lot more than 2 inches, possibly 2 inchs per per hour. Last night there was at least an inch of snow while we were waiting for our stand!

and they've ran out of de-icing fluid !!- currently awaiting 6000 litres from Gla . Some of the FR's this morning were taking 2000 litre per plane.

What happened to FR6652 EDI / AGP on Tues evening , I understand it was an incoming aircraft from Spain but passengers got a bit angry as the 6652 back to Malaga was cancelled ? I heard police had to be called .

Monarch airlines summer 2011

Hi People, am just wondering if anybody knows what destinations monarch will be doing from EDI summer 2011, also which aircraft do they use for the summer contracts at EDI.

Cheers for any info supplied.

MON will operate the following for summer 2011: Corfu, Dalaman, Palma de Mallorca, Paphos, Tenerife South. Not sure about the a/c but it is either a A320 or A321. The aircraft comes in from Dublin late on Sunday night. Not sure which one it is because one goes to LGW. I would say it is a A320.

The MON aircraft has a 0900 Sunday departure to Paphos, so its unlikely to be a DUB aircraft arriving on a Sunday night

The airport authorities really need to do something about all these snow closures!!

A bit of snow and the airport is closed for hours.... What are they doing in Scandinavia or in Canada for example?

Every time, they have to wait for the snow to stop to start clearing the runway, it is nonsense!!!

FR EDI/AGP was affected by runway closure due to snow. Crew went out of hours. The operations teams were fighting a loosing battle, with the amount of snow that came down. The teams worked non stop, some never even stopped for breaks.

As to Monarch, wouldnt be suprised to see Monarch operating EDI/SSH/EDI on Wed, instead of Lotus Air. Sure something else could be added to Saturday also. Suspect it will be an A320 for summer 11

Was passing the Gyle earlier this afternoon and could see the top of an aircraft parked at the end of old runway. Think it was a Virgin Atlantic A340, anyone got any details on this and when it will be leaving?

Came in from Hong Kong, and diverted from LHR to EDI on saturday evening/night. Arrived into EDI after midnight (sunday morning) and pax kept onboard till 10AM.

Again, according to the rumor mill today. Could be proven wrong.

Surely there's a law against that - ransom?. In that time they could have got out, got a taxi in to town and got a train to London. Or even hired a car and got home.
