600 applicant for flyjet! Wow, that is a big figure! It shows the amount of crew/prospective crew NCL has.

I have heard that the Finnair unit is staying on the OY reg as Finnair like to rotate the aircraft regularly for maintenance. Perhaps plans have changed but they did do this when they served scandic.

Does anyone know if Flyjet are to have ground staff or are they running it from MAN?

The way it is worded makes it sound like they are going to expand from NCL, but don't they mean Globespan, not FlyGlobespan?

i think its a good idea to start flights to the states, canada and south africa its about time if u ask me u cn get direct flights to EWR from EDI and GLA and also flights to the middle east. There isnt an airport in the north of england that can offer this (exc. MAN, but that about a 3 hour drive from most of us in the northeast) I welcome the plans with open arms.

Globespan already operates to Toronto out of NCL, albeit using AirTransat, maybe this will be taken "in-house" as part of the expansion.

Flyjet are using servisair as ground handling but is getting run from LGW as this is the main hub. Although there OPS are still being run from a hotel close to the airport.

Biman Bangladesh

Is this out of the frying pan into the fire? If there is ever going to be lots of competition on a NY route it will be out of MAN and LHR. Unless they are aiming purely for the home grown Bangladesh market in the SE or N of England.

Just foundthis about Biman. There are going to be re-routing some of there DHK-JFK flight through the UK and possibly the north of england.

Should Globespan commence operations from NCL, particularly long haul it would be great for NCL, but what would their plans for shorthaul services be? Surley the market for loco services at NCL is now pretty much saturated with easy, jet2,ryanair etc. Unless of course they plan on flying to destinations not presently served like eastern europe? NCL does desparately need more long haul, geordie passengers are starting to get slightly more adventurous and I'm sure US/Caribbean destinations would go down a treat!

I see flyjet are planning to operate 5 flights per week during the winter? Again great news, particularly on the jobs front, lets hope they create a good reputation for themselves at NCL. While 5 flights per week is not a great deal, they could however pick up more, with ski flights and sub charters etc. Its a shame XL have not yet realised the potential of actually operating their flights all year round with their own aircraft.

The base was closed May 2004. There are still a large number of ex-NCL crew knocking about other bases who would be keen to get back home, but despite the rumour, flybe have expressed no intention to re-open. ABZ has however been mentioned as a base they may re-open, but with another 20 Dash Q400s to find bases and routes for, who knows.

Fingers crossed for NCL.
