Now all we want is SAS to go double daily and someone to take up Munich and Cologne.

Any rumours that Air Berlin might want to do a NCL - STN to feed traffic onto their German routes?

Air Berlin

I was just about to say that airliner world was saying that Air Berlin is in talks with other main uk airports about routes into german and stn.

I would think that ncl would be one of them

I would rather easyjet try and fill their flights first.

I dont think that we will see anything new from easyjet for a good year. i think that they are looking at other european bases first.

Think we will have more luck with jet2 and ryanair.

Got to agree with HH, i think we have maxed out with EZY for now. Pisa and Murcia were possible EZY routes, and I assume since EZY were not forthcoming NCL turned to Jet2. So my prediction with EZY is no aircraft No.7 and no new routes before 2007. I think RYR have made it difficult for themselves by choosing the 800s, in so much as sizeing themselves out of thinner routes that would work daily with a smaller aircraft - BGY comes to mind, 3 or 4 weekly means losing out on potential business traffic, bit of a vicious circle. So my prediction here is no expansion from RYR for at least a year.

Newcastle's strengths are Charter, 5th busiest charter airport in the country i believe (thanks NCLrules). North East folk must still love their packages, any growth in my opinion is here. Thomsonfly with an extra aircraft and an increased presence from XLA (in one form or another - prehaps subbing out) seem to confirm this. The only thing i'm not sure of is why no long haul growth, extra SFB or a Cancun wouldnt have been too much of a surprise. Benidorm forever prehaps?

Indeed, Newcastle's strongest point is charter flights, however charter carriers are becoming loco carriers, for example, thomsonfly with 2 757 a/c for charter flights and a 737-300 for loco flights to charter destinations. XLA also do a very similar thing, through the XL.com brand on all their services.

Growth, however is still strong, with TOM and their extra flights, XLA with 2 based a/c (same as last year, but a couple of extra flights), flyjet based 757, which is rumoured to be permanent. If this is the case then what flights could they operate during the winter, as NCL has a substantially reduced charter programme Nov to March.

And I absolutely agree that a couple of long haul destinations should be introduced and would do quite well, the Geordies are getting adventurous and are tiring of Benidorm and Magalluff!!

Benidorm is attractive to anyone because of its very cheap prices. You can get a week holiday to Benidorm for £99.

But the resort's airport, Alicante, isn't just popular for holidays in Benidorm, the Costa Blanca is one of the nicest places to visit in Spain if you are willing to hire a car and go driving. There are loads of little Spanish towns, Calpe, Moraira, Denia, Altea, Guardilest (Not sure of spelling), Benisa, Teulada, which are fantastic places. Me and my family visit these places every year. We've been going for over 25 years.

I understand Moraira is one the most expensive places to buy in Spain. There is also rumours that famous stars own places there.

But I agree, I'm sure people would like a much wider choice of holiday spots.

CentreFix25, Newcastle is the 5th biggest UK Charter departure point.

I have heard on galley FM that EZYs explansion has been nipped in the bud for now, as there isnt enough stands to accomodate the extra a/c they want, im not to sure how right that is.
Ive heard that they are to start LGW in 2007 but it will be a LGW based 319 that will op the route untill ncl has enough stands to allow them their 7th a/c
Again not to sure on the reliablility of this rumour but maybe someone else can confirm???

The new south side freight stands should be operational by the Summer, so i'm not convinced stands is, ever has been or ever will be a hurdle in the quest for new based aircraft.

MyTravel upgrading to A321
Excel 1 737 and 1 757
FlyJet 1 757
Thomsonfly 2 757 & 1 737
Thomas Cook 2 757s

The BMI EFL flight down to a 320 from a 321 though.

All in all a decent looking programme for NCL. Extra flights to Antalya, Sharm El Sheikh and a few others.

(based on 7th May out 14th May in)

NCL-PVK XLA4520 0700/1230
PVK-NCL XLA5426 1330/1510

Strange outbound / inbound flight numbers are so different

You may well find that the XLA PVK, along with certain other flights are subject to change as XLA have not yet finalised the programme themselves. Indeed on some days there are more flights than aircraft and types of a/c have not yet been confirmed, indeed NCL could end up with another leased-in of some description.

Also expect some of the OHY flights to change to Freebird Airlines.

Thomsonfly is 737-300 for their new loco flights, in addition to SZG flights, however for the winter 06/07 season it will become 1 757 and 1 737-800. VRN will be FCA again.

The information on times, days etc of the summer charter programme has been retrieved via tour operators etc and some of it will be subject to change, right upto the last minute, as is usual.

On a different note, Newcastle had 4 aircraft divert away earlier today, a KLM, BritishJet, BA and Air Wales - all presumably due to weather and the fact that rain was falling onto the runway and freezing. Any ideas where these aircraft diverted to? I had heard that one went as far away as BHX!

The BritishJet operates via BHX, not sure which way round but I guess it went to BHX either first as normal or came back down after trying NCL.

On the subject of expansion on the charter side of Newcastle's route network, what ever happened to the new routes by Kosmar Holidays, Thomas Cook, TUI Group and MyTravel as described in the thread 'Charter 2006' some time ago.

Among new routes mentioned were Rimini, Tenerife North, Ponta Delgada, Lisbon, Mykynos, Samos among a few others. The only one that was mentioned that has gone on sale, though postponed for the time being is MYT to AGA.

There was also many other rumours a while back, such as Travel City Direct to SFB and EI returning on the DUB run.

Check out some of the Newcastle threads on the forum search facility (sorry don't know how to post links! )
