Woohoo a rumour at last!!
Not sure if it would work quite yet, i would think they should see how EWR goes for 6 months, quite a nice route to get though, Bostons a great city, no performance issues with that on though, 6 hrs - bobs your uncle!

Also...
Terrier, as Windsheer said a while back, in theory FCA are just in the infantry of their Long haul expansion, I\'m sure when they think the time is right they\'ll get something going from BRS

Yeah I know your right Watabench just can't understand how you can fill 20 aircraft to PMI each week ranging from 73's to a 767, but they don't think they can fill a Orlando Cancun Dom Republic etc once weekly.

Boston would be nice it would make sense for Co to operate as they have 4 desks which are redundant for 20 hours of the day.

Also Lots of rumours about FR and other bases I know its unlikely but they did say a long time ago they would expand from BRS.

Yeah the CO desks are such a waste of space, area looks good though, and i would think that CO wouldn't want another US carrier in BRS as it would p**s on there parade a bit, plus if someone such as UA or AA were to come in, they would expect the same treatment as CO, where the hell would all the other flights check in if another 4 desks were taken up by UA orAA?
Mind you i dont think BOS is covered from BHX by anyone so it may work as you could nick some of the midlands market that probably travel to MAN/LHR.
So this is it then the next big BRS route!!!
C'mon CO bring on BOS on, then we'll have IAD and MIA on reduced load 767s - HURRAH!

On a lighter note from all this heavy long haul talk, I just noticed (via the live web site apron plan) an interesting visitor currently parked on stand 10.

The evening WOW 308 to MAN is being worked by a Suckling (Scot Air) Dornier 328-100, G-BZOG.

This airline certainly brings some different liveries to the North Somerset countryside. I remember seeing an Air Wales ATR 42 helping out last summer, and I believe that in recent months a Dutch or Danish ATR 42 has also appeared.

I have seen Denim Air a few times last week. Are they operating for air southwest?

Ranger 1, I've also heard the same rumour. I've also heard rumours of a Boston service from Glasgow and Newcastle.

terrier21, I've heard that Ryanair want to expand from Cardiff to challenge easyJet at Bristol. Cardiff is listed as a future base on FR's website.

Where abouts does it say CWL is a future base?!!

Why can't they take on Ezy face to face like they do at LPL?

WOW went Tech and got in an Aircraft with not enough seats to operate the BRS/MAN 10 pax had to be transported by Road, just what you want on a bank holiday!!!

I think this will be a very good year for Bristol. I can see many long-haul routes to come in the future. I just can't understand why Charters don't bother with long-haul?

I suppose, looking at it from a sensible point of view, the runway and Apron Area is just not big enough to take the likes of fully loaded 767's, 777's and 747's like CWL have. Running the flights on Scheduled services Like Co gives you the option of using smaller Aircraft but more Frequent and it doesnt take up so much stand room as they are not based.

Just wait a few more years for the 787 and BRS will be doing long haul til the cows come home me thinks, Apparently FCA have pretty much said already they'll be putting at least 1 of their new 787s in BRS as it won't have any performance issues with the runway.
Also suprised we haven't heard anymore about a DXB route as its about the same flight time as EWR and is the biggest up and comeing long haul destination.

I don't think bristol will get the emirates route because the airport can't handle the aircraft they use. There is not enough wingtip clearence for the A330/340 (at rwy27 end) and the 777 is just too big.

Emirates have said they don't have enough aircraft to announce anymore routes at the moment. They have delayed their launch at Geneva (I think it's Geneva). They've also said they would like to launch an Edinburgh route next in the UK.

I'm sure one day BRS will see Emirates.

F_C

I'm not trying to contradict you in any way (I believe from other posts that you are in the business at the sharp end) but I am always anxious to learn.

The 330/340 apparently (from a web search) has a wingspan of a fraction under 198 feet, much wider than the 737s, 757s and 320 family commonly seen at BRS.

Elsewhere in this thread it has been suggested that the B 787 will use BRS when it comes into service. Yet this aircraft has a wingspan of 193 feet, so wouldn't it face the same problem as the 330/340?

You say the 777 is too big for BRS. Do you mean its length (242 feet)?

From what you say I presume it is the manoeuvring area that is the problem and not the runway or taxiway widths per se - leaving aside any runway length issues.

I think that the old terminal will be demolished by the time the 787 enters service but looking at the A330/340 it will be a very tight squeeze at the moment to get past the old terminal onto runway 27. Again the 777 has a 199ft wing span so wingtip clearence will be an issue. Also stands 1, 2 and 3 could not cope with the weight which means that the only stands a 777 could use would be on the western apron. Also a 777 would be very weight restricted. The weekly thomsonfly 767 has a zfw of approx 79,500kg where as a 777-200 (which emirates use) has a zfw of approx 143,000kg which is almost double but only has approx 1/3 more power availible.
