Yeah, asphyxiation would definitely have set in by now. I do not however take any pleasure from the non-annoucement (so far.....it's only Wednesday!).

I was reading through the two Belfast forums earlier. P$ss funny! Some proper bolleaux on there. However, one poster who seemed sane, who intimated they worked for/or knew something about EZY, suggested that EZY would not be expanding any further this year. Kinda shoots the LDY-GAT/LTN rumour down, which, if true, is a real pity.

For anyone thats interested, the new 08 ILS has been installed and is currently being calibrated. Should be operational within a few weeks.

Speaking to my reporter friend again, and he seems to think that there is no announcement coming at all anymore regarding Aer Arann, but he still seems to think that someone is going to take up LDY - LTN or LDY - LGW, which of course looks less likely to be EZY from what we are hearing on the now split Belfast thread. Who else could do the route? It has to be Flybe, doesn't it? we shall see.

Stewart28, is your Dad ok with you posting the announcment before next weeks official one? It has been common knowledge for a while now ( see my post No: 625) but I thought the commitee would wish to let Aer Arann announce it properly.
Hmmmm. The above quote from ALPHA ECHO would strongly suggest some sort of deal/agreement with Aer Arann has been in place for some time.

What, if anything, would cause this to fall through? Anyone? (Though nothing would surprise me when it comes to Derry......)

From what I heard today, it was just that an announcement from RE was not forthcoming, that doesn't rule out another operator setting up shop at LDY on those routes. Would be odd to announce something late in the week, and without a media circus to announce anything though, so maybe we should hold out until next Monday?

Speedbird, I think the quote from ALPHA is pretty clear:

There was to be an announcement this week, by Aer Arann, about them setting up new routes, from Derry.

There has only been rumours about other operators, rather than what can only be seen as a factual statement from ALPHA. Perhaps he/she should come on here and give us a clue as to what is/isn't happening.

Surely any route development at Derry should be welcomed with open arms, and shouted about from the rooftops?

Wouldn't surprise me if any announcement was on a Thursday or Friday with a leak to Derry Journal so they can carry in a Friday. After all Friday Journal is biggest media publication in the area.

And we have heard nothing, so surely if something was agreed to be announced they would have done so at the earliest opportunity. possibly the announcement delayed? Have they planned instead to start these new routes in the winter?

One bit of news is that the Council has applied for planning permission for the following:

Alterations to existing passenger terminal for the
provision of a baggage reclaim area.

And that's all the news at LDY folks!

Euro Millions

The Euro millions is over £100 million this weekend. I was just wondering if "ALPHA ECHO" or "Stewart28" could recommend some numbers given their obvious prowess in predictions, so that I'll know what numbers to avoid thus increasing my chances.

Confirmed on the EZY thread that they are starting ops from IOM, with an official announcement on Tuesday concerning routes. IOM - LDY take your fancy? Doubtful, but then again what was my reporter friend saying about possible EZY at LDY.... How about a westerly pattern of LTN - IOM -LDY

I wrote that a few hours ago Amelia, and upon reflection it does seem to be the workings of a man on a certain tablet lol

But then again is such a route so impossible? Possibly during the height of summer it could work. In all likeliness though, with Manx possibly moving all their ops to BFS it probably looks a more likely possibility of LTN - IOM - BHD. Another EZY route at BHD looks likely then. And before I get a bashing from those on the BFS thread who say EZY have no plans to move/start any more routes from BHD, you cannot disagree that it may happen, as EZY can do what they want and where they want. Nobody seen the move into the IOM for EZY, so ruling out further BHD expansion would be foolish.

Anyway rant over band back to all things LDY, hope everyone is booked on the magical new RE service to MAN or EDI which will be operating 14 times per day from the summer. Prices start from £1000,000,000 one way....sigh.. pity I've resorted to sarcasm as I would loved to have heard any sort of announcement this week. I wonder if Stewart28 or ALPHA ECHO are reading this, if you are guys I need my tablets back......

Headline in today's Journal stated the new terminal extension was £25 million. Only when you read the article did you realise they had left out a decimal point and that the amount is actually £.25 million.

Amusing but it does beg the questions exactly what in terms of public works would £250,000 buy these days (even during the credit crunch/recession when builders are desperate for work).

Anyway it is for additional departure space and an international (ooooohhhhh!) baggage reclaim area which apparently has to be separate from the woefully inadequate 10 metre domestic carrousel.

Just awaiting planning permission. But didn't the council announce a £5 million terminal extension about 9 months ago. Is this what happened to it or is this temporary remedial works?
