DERRY/LONDONDERRY
Hi Speedbird,
Whilst I'd love to see them expand their network, I do worry about pricing. As I've said before I've used them on their BRS-ABZ route, and believe me, I was glad I wasn't paying! Prices were just shy of £300 rtn. That sort of price isn't sustainable from NI, never mind LDY.

However with a pot of route development money on the cards, i'm sure bmi regional will want to dip their hands in and see what they get.

E145 G-RJXC departed a wee bit late at 07:10 this morning with the first BMR1501 to Stansted. Looks like it ferried in yesterday about 16:00.
Might be a good time for the airport to update its Twitter tagline boasting about Ryanair, positioned right next to two promotions for BMR... Probably forgot whilst enjoying all that cake.

Ah. I see. Well, I'm sure their social media person will get her finger out at some point. Probably been too busy with the various jollies they've been on recently.
Anyway. Great start from BMIR. Both legs late.

You do need to remember that there's a lot of fanfare before inaugural flights - speeches, cake etc. Given that passengers aren't going to turn up to the airport hours before they have to, it's inevitable that the flight will struggle to depart on time.
Honestly I think that people should be relieved that the government thinks that the route is worth shelling out millions of pounds of taxpayers' money.

I'm not sure a 6.45am departure is the best time to have all the hoo-ha around an inaugural flight. The afternoon departure surely would have been more sensible.
As for the millions of taxpayers' money. I'm not sure you're up to speed with NI government spending, but in terms of the £450m wasted on a renewable heating scheme, the subventions for LDY is peanuts. A Belfast hotelier recently received more in government aid than my local airport is receiving for this route.
I'm very grateful for BMIR starting from the airport, hope they succeed, and am keen to see them provide more routes.

Well that defeats the purpose of having a so-called hoo-ha around the inaugural flight. You mark the occasion of a new route before the first flight, not once the route has already been flown.

My point was that the airport was not there as a single entity itself which is unusual as the event was held on this island.
Today's Derry Journal has an extensive article regarding the airport. The main points are:
- hopes are high BMIR will start BHX and BRS.
- still in discussions with airlines regarding a MAN route.
- hopeful that further tour operators will add FAO and other possible bucket and space routes.
- BMIR are delighted with sales on the route. One of their strongest launches.
Lots of hope, ifs and maybes, but additional BMIR services seem a no-brainer given the gap between the morning STN arrival and evening departure. Here's hoping.
