Dublin flights

Well, no doubt about this one now. Had an e-mail from Citywing yesterday saying that the service will not be proceeding, citing Brexit concerns and lack of viability - and essentially putting the responsibility on Van-air. So nothing to do with Citywing really.....

Could be just a change on flight numbers but Liverpools new route to Bari from next March is using Liverpool-City Of Derry flight number (FR9884/95). Hope its not the end of Liverpool service!!

All over the NI media today about Citywing scrapping Derry - Dublin route.

Flight was due to start October 2015 but they still managed to blame Brexit.

Whilst it's a shame this route isn't going ahead, it's hardly a surprise. Citywing aren't an airline per se, and rely on Van Air for the metal. Still, the planned schedule would've added a mighty 494 seats a week, RETURN. It's hardly a huge loss in that context. Also, I get the suspicion that for a lot of people a 19 seater bone-shaker might have been a flight that they used once!

Anyway. On a more positive note, the May CAA stats are in, and both GLA and LPL saw double-digit increases.

A great disappointment, but the articles do say they're in discussion with other carriers for this route so I'm not prepared to give up on this one yet.

Interesting, wonder if their planning to scrap LPL to LDY to replace with a BFS route?

If they're planning on scrapping it I wish they would just hurry up so as LDY can start looking for a new operator and get the millstone that is FR from around their necks.

As for the airport being in discussions with other operators for the DUB route. I can't think of a single airline who would want to operate it, even with a subsidy.

Why can't they look for a new operator now. Is it that airlines are not forthcoming in beating a path to their door because some have tried previously but the revenue just wasn't there. Would another airline turn up if FR pull out stating they are concentrating ops at BFS. My friends husband is an FR first officer who is due to transfer to BFS next month. He has stated three UK routes to be added soon from BFS but would not divulge the destinations. Don't think it's LPL as he said no but wouldn't comment when EMA and STN was suggested.

If they add STN then that would buck the recent trend of frequencies being reduced from there (LDY, NOC, KIR etc).

FR were going nicely at LDY but then they started messing around with schedules, frequency and doing it at such short notice as to mess up people's plans. Whether a new operator would replace FR at LDY remains to be seen. My own feeling is that the answer in the current environment would be no. Perhaps if FR start stepping on EZY's toes at BFS they would try something at LDY.

Who knows Cuthere. If it would come to fruition, EZY might possible add a few flights per week to LGW. With LGW now the busiest route from Nothern Ireland, I'd imagine EZY would want to hold on to their share of that market and may see LDY as an opportunity. You never know.

So RYR have today launched their Summer 2017 London routes - yet LDY has no flights available for booking past 25th March.

Strange?

Reading back on the thread from years ago, where did it all go wrong for Derry? Flights to Bulgaria, Spain, many destinations in the UK. Now its possible the airport could have NO services. The city of Derry has a population the size of Limerick, yet LDY is a sorry state compared to SNN, NOC and even KIR!

I just can't understand it!

Must be waiting for a United Airlines style arrangement from Stormont 😒.
Surely Easyjet or someone else must see the potential to try a couple of routes? 2 x daily LGW would be a no brainer. Wishful thinking I suppose.

Ryanair Summer London 2017 Press Release, no mention of Derry yet.

Welcome to Ryanair!

Confirmation of new Liverpool Bari route which a recent post noted seemed to have the current Derry Liverpool flight number assigned though no mention of flight number in the article.

Welcome to Ryanair!

Again it's all speculation but "if" Ryanair did leave, I very much doubt easyjet would give it a go.
This only 2 possible airlines which could give it a go again is Stobart in the form of Aer lingus regional/ Flybe or flybe themselves

Is Stansted cancelled or not? I use this route constantly and would be furious if it was lost.

The thought of having to drive backwards and forwards to Belfast is not a good one.

Well, you'd imagine if Ryanair are ditching LDY, then the people who work at CoDA would know. With the well-oiled PR team up there (not), I'm sure we'll find out. Most likely around March 24th 2017. In the meantime, we'll see jolly Tweets from the airport showcasing all the social media conferences etc etc they've been to. The fiasco with the LDY-DUB flight, and the communication around that, sums it up well.

With Brexit imminent, despite the wishes of the majority of NI, I can't see any airline stepping in. BE would have been the most likely, but they have problems of their own to deal with.

I see RYR have today loaded GLA into the system for Summer 2017. Staying at x5 weekly. No Mon or Wed flight. I would have imagined Mon to be a busier day with returning weekend passengers?

Also note a change in flight number for the route.
