mytravelite

just a small thought with ryanair reducing their program by 70% at bhx looks like things could be looking good for the british tour operator mytravel as they do many of the routes ryanair do from bhx and the ones they dont do i am sure they will consider picking up they have a great understanding with bhx and mytravelite is doing really well with alot of help from tim jeenes (ex ryanair).

Ignoring the lack of capital letters and the mis-spelling of Tim Jeans, I think it is a matter of wait and see what the effect of Ryanair slimming down their BHX operation is. The whole Midlands area scene will be interesting to follow in the next few months with BHX, EMA and CVT all with low cost operations.

Sorry about the vocab but had a long night, had a bit of a flash back you sound like my ex english teacher. The fact is it has been announced 2 day that myt are going to put on more flights to Dublin at the same price as they were going to travel with Ryanair. Also the other routes are being looked at too and they are also looking at more ac to be based at BHX to cope with the excess pax. Looks like they may cash in on Ryanair!!!

Hi Tower Ranger

Don't think they are much of a threat to Flybe on the Brum. route but they have been bunged full all this week though.
Punters going to Cheltenham no doubt!

Cheers

As has been previously mentioned on the board, MyTravelLite is planned to be wound up at the end of the summer season 2004, with the aircraft being sent back to MyTravel Airways flying for the charter programme, although perhaps like Monarch operating one or two regular scheduled flights ex-BHX/MAN/LGW.

The idea is that MyTravelLite will simply become a brand like Thomsonflights.co.uk, where passengers simply purchase a ticket like they would a no-frills airline for a charter flight to a vacation destination. Schedules will become more flexible, and prices reduced to become more competitive to the likes of Ryanair and EasyJet.

There is some talk doing the rounds with my former colleagues over at MyTravel, that now Ryanair will be competing at a distance out of NEMA, MyTravelLite will be able to go back to their original plan from Summer 2002, which was to create a low-fares airline for the West Midlands at BHX.

Whether this will come to fruition and the 4 320s will become permanently MyLite plus extra planes, I don't know. It would be shame to see MyLite go bust, because they were probably one of the most competitive carriers in the Midlands in terms of fares. They used to have some good schedules for the BVA/AMS/BFS/DUB, perhaps if they kept good schedules, with good service and the nice mix of leisure routes - the airline might have a second chance.

I'd be very surprised if lite is wound up and stops at the end of the Summer as it is a good product and most flights are full. We have added extra flights to DUB, due to the fact that FR pulled out of BHX, and the MYL schedule for the summer is busy, come to mention it so is the MYT.

Just for the record again MYT/MYL is not going BUST! - Sorry we are here to stay!

'I have heard on the grape vine that the two bus's used bu vzlite are to be allocated to the charter side as the loco hasn't taken off as expected' (speedbird_heavy)

Correction there Speedbird. Lite actually operate 4 buses (as you call them) down at BHX and on peak days of the week, a fifth bus (an even bigger one) departs BHX in the first wave. That's 5 buses departing within 20 mins of each other.

Also to clarify. Lite, you are talking out of your Litehole. No intention of Lite being wound up at the end of Summer. Watch this space for Winter 04/05 Programme!

Unfortunately, speedbird_heavy you unintentionally got caught up in one of the great issues affecting PPrune these days, the great MYT/MYL protection effort. In essence this means that anybody who posts a comment about MYT/MYL that is not 100% positive and supportive is immediately and aggressively accused of "attacking" them, spreading unfounded rumours, talking them down, being anti-british, failing to support colleagues and for all I know, killing the Kennedy brothers. Any mention of past financial difficulties is unwise - Apparently this was all caused by competitors

MTL have clearly been through a difficult time recently, and part of the internal recovery process is that employee confidence should be boosted, as everybody pulls together to turn the company around. Unfortunately, they feel obliged to spread this attitude around outside the company as well.

For the time being, it's probably best to read but not post anything about MYT/MYL. Time will tell. If they're as good as they would have us believe, then (in a few years time) when they have paid their debts and returned to profit and market dominance we shall all be eating crow. If they're not that good, then nothing said here will matter anyway!

There's no "MYT protection effort". I don't know who you work for or whether any company that you have worked for has gone thru what MYT has over the last 18 months, but when you see lies and utter rubbish written about your company then it's right that you defend it. Surely that's a consequency of having a loyal work force? Yes, the truth is, and has been, written about the state of MYT but also unfounded garbage. In any walk of life when you see outsiders, all be it press or individuals, comment on your industry, profession, or company, a lot is factually incorrect. Radio 2 yesterday - guest comes from Cranliegh - presenter says "Ah that's famous for the RAF isn't it?" - guest says, "No, thats Cranfield isn't it?" - "Yes" they agree! Perhaps they were thinking about Cranwell, althoughCranfield has had a prowd RAF past but maybe not as much as the RAFC Cranwell.

Those of us that work for MYT will all acknowledge that the company almost went under several times over the past 18 months, and indeed may still do so(there's no manopoly on going bust in this industry as we have seen this week), however, we are in a far better position to go forward than 6, 12 or 18 months ago. Suggesting that there's a "MYT protection effort" on PPRuNe is somewhat over the top and "smacks of an organised campaign" is almost impossible: If you work in the aviation industry, you must realize that this is again utter rubbish, as it would imply that a bunch of pilots would have to get off their buts and do some organising! It's just not going to happen, is it?

It is only right and natural to defend your own, especially against, as what we perceive, as incorrect, unjust or biased comment. There are also several thousand of us employed by MYT, so you shouldn't be surprised if there are a number who wish to make comment and defend ourselves on this BB.

Tightslot,
I do not work for MYT, but over the months I have just got fed up watching people on PPrune gratuitously 'having a go' at MYT. It does not deserve to be kicked when it is down in such a nasty and ferocious way by other people in our industry. Frankly, it seems that there is a concerted attempt to force it under by the media. Yes, they have had huge difficulties, but basically they are a decent bunch of people trying to keep their jobs, and comments and attitudes like yours are disappointing.

Angel

Impossible to book BHX to/from BFS beyond 30 April - as all other routes are bookable beyond this date, can only assume they're pulling the plug.

UPDATE: Confirmed in todays Belfast Telegraph - route ceasing from 30/04/04.

Nice to see that they wait till after the AGM till they drop the route offically .... not good to tell the share holders all the bad news at once. But then they intend to put on more DUB trips, with the current loads that sounds like it could be another major problem.

The other problem they are facing is the crew situation, as the management are saying they have the correct figures but everyone knows that they are even down on last summer, which was a complete nightmare apparently. Friends in BHX say it has started already with the rosters changing as fast as a sand painting in quick sand. And they expect to lose more crews in the near future ... but its all okay as the management arn't listening or have got duff calculators to work out the figures.

Its going to be a hard summer for them, good luck

In the lion's den

So MYT have now dropped AMS, BVA, GVA and BFS? They seem to be much more capable of operating to summer sun spots, than operating to any business / leisure break cities.

As I understood it, FR were moving GRO & MJV to NEMA, but keeping DUB - maybe reducing frequency though? If some of the DUB pax transfer to NEMA, I don't see Lite doing too well by increasing DUB frequency.

I'm not here to dig at Lite, just wanting to know what the likely future is. It seems that their forte would be the Med - like TOM @ CVT, and any of the scheduled offerings from other charter companies.

So, will anyone replace them to BFS? Would Duo want to go there, or would they compete direct with flybe @ BHD? Would that be down to what incentives the airports offer? I can't imagine EZ would want to come into BHX, as this wouldn't help their ops @ NEMA.

Just hoping that such a key route from BHX still has a little competition.

If you think that the date that MyTravelLite announced they were dropping BFS from May had anything to do with the Group’s AGM then you’re in dreamland. The MyTravel Group plc has a annual turnover of £4.2 billion, of which MyTravelLite might realistically represent 1.5%. How much of an impact in the City do you think MyTravelLite dropping its planned five times-a-week S04 service to BFS has?

Besides which, if any institutional shareholder, bank or bondholder did notice that MyTravelLite were dropping BFS, they’d hopefully see the sense in cutting out an under-performing route.

By the way, can anyone confirm the rumour that Ryanair are refusing to give refunds to pax who booked BHX-MJV and BHX-GRO for Summer 04 on the grounds that EMA is an ‘equivalent’ replacement? I’m sure it would hurt Ryanair to give refunds, so that pax who wanted to could go and book a BHX flight with Lite, but there must be a legal limit to the definition of ‘equivalent replacement’.
