Willing to fly for food? Willing to fly for free? I thought this was a profession and not a charity. You guys are commercial pilots. You get paid to fly, not the other way around. Anyone willing to work for free is lowering the bar for other pilots and taking money out of their pockets. If you want a job in Africa, you have to at least show your face on the continent. Just a heads up though, don't frequent pilot friendly watering holes offering your services for free as you may get an unpleasant welcome here.

Flying as a profession? Perhaps not really, more a training or a trade I think, Once upon a time it might have been a vocation but a profession? I do not think so. Fly for free, fly for food, fly for less? A self funded type rating is the same as flying for free, is that also to be criticised? What about the pilot who takes a pay cut to keep his job. Extend the argument a little and can say that pilot who flies the aircraft of one country with the licence of another but on a validation, deprives the pilot of the former country of the possibility of a job. Pilots are an international labour force, like Polish plumbers, only probably poorer, and supply and demand and usual economic consequences of blue collar workers apply to them.

I think you will find that the bad economical climate is world wide including Africa as it is part of this planet, you can join the long queue of pilots in Maun if you wish or there are similar queues of newby pilots all around the world waiting for that hard to bag first job. Also remember there are thousands of experienced pilots with thousands of hours also out of work in front of you.

If I was you I would get any job going and sit tight for an improvement before going off to Africa or any other location as waiting for months is really expensive when you are not entitled to work.

May the force be with you.

Why would he have to covert his CPL to an Indian DGCA CPL??? He's considering Maun in Botswana, on the dark continent of Africa!

Anyway, back to the point, Maun (and everywhere else in Africa) is a very tightly shut shop. Experienced CPL's with more than double your hours and type rated on the C208 aren't even getting interviews, let alone jobs.

I see you don't mention an FI rating in your qualifications. Why don't you consider that? Rumour has it that the US is crying out for FI's. Instructing is one of the most rewarding things you could ever do.

i agree you dont require Indian CPL for flying in Maun or any other places that he is looking at. But for a Indian Citizen who has trained abroad i think its advisable to get his license converted into Indian license first simply because if any opportunities come out he would be atleast be eligible to apply for them. I have lots of friends who have run off to Philippines or African regions to fly before converting their License into Indian ones, and when an Opportunity opened up back home they were unable to apply for it.

So its just my advise. and i totally agree with you. You have experienced CPL holders with CFI/MEI rating + about 500-800 hours waiting to get a job in Maun, so chances of a fresh CPL holder getting priority ahead of them is really slim. ( although i dont mean to discourage anyone but that is what the situation is at present)

@ 747TDR

The reason why aviator_hyd asked whether i converted to DGCA bcuz Im an Indian with a FAA CPL.

I can get my Flight Instructor rating, but i wont be allowed to work there ![GREEN CARD],so did bother to get one !

@aviator_hyd

I do hold DGCA CPL !!

Since no openings in India, I'm trying abroad.

Does anyone know, whether i can get a Dispatcher job in Africa with my current qualification ?
