LJT,
I see that yet again, the only response you have to my post, because it does not agree perfectly with your own biased view of the world is to try to insult me in your badly spelled English - I as a poor English speaker, I hope can be excused for my grammars.
As for the part about EFCC, here is a link:
http://www.efccnigeria.org/index.php...=1154&Itemid=2
My English friends tell me 'privvy' is another word for toilet. Is your friend listen to things in the toilets at Arik?
It is common amongst many aviation companies to have what we used to call 'hangar queen'. This is an aircraft which is already down with some fault, so it is robbed for spare parts to keep others flying, until such time as the new parts arrive. It make good economic sense and is quite safe if all is properly documented.

alghaita ganga,
I will not honour you with a response , since you seem to know more about my country than i.
But i will comment on spelling errors, these are made by the best in the world, the idea is that you understand what the point of the subject matter maybe.
Since you lack the ability to just understand english however put, it must be a shame that you struggle to actually belong to the group that has a mastery of this language.
2. privy - (followed by `to') informed about something secret or not generally known; "privy to the details of the conspiracy"
If the second 'V' upsets you that much, you are free to edit my post; or better still, jump in a lake!
Keep it up man, more dictionaries eh?

LJT,

I will not honour you with a response , since you seem to know more about my country than i.
. However, this is just what you have done, non?

Again I see that all you are capable of is reply with something worthy only of depositing in the privvy, since you have made no constructive comment on anything I have said. If you are so proud of your country and everything in her, why are you making only criticism, not constructive criticism oh Arik Air, for carrying out something which was normal aviation practice when I was an aviator? Are you trying to say what they are doing is unsafe, illegal or poor economics? If you had 2 identical cars and one had 2 flat tires would you not take a tire from one car to keep the other on the road until you have purchase another?

My writing of English is maybe not to good, but I understand very well. To what group do you think I am struggling to belong? If your English is as you write, it seem to me that you also are struggling to have a mastery of it.

Oh well, it is a very hot evening here in Ouahouigouya, so I think I will have to take a cold drink in my local buvette. You have obviously visite here and viewed our artificial lake, so I take your advice and jump in to refresh myself very well

AG & LJT,

Enough is enough. Stop this madness. AG was onboard a VK flight that took off after sunset with no runway or taxiway lighting, he was there and he knows his facts, let him pursue this with NCAA.
LJT leave the poor man alone, he is entitled to pursue what he feels was a clear violation of standard ops procedures.
This is becoming a bad dream.

NDB17 not sure that your solution is the best to adopt. AG made claims that LJT has good reason to believe he can disprove. Therefore just because AG was on the plane as a passenger it doesn't automaticlly follow that he was right.

Like Revnetwork I have a reasonable knowledge of the VK operation and I can state that they would not authorise any flight that was operating illegally. They have a regular audit of their operations from their major shareholder Virgin Atlantic and VS are very keen that VK do not operate in a cowboy manner and thereby drag the Virgin brand into the mire.

I think it was Rani who asked why Emirates, Qatar et al can all start up airlines from scratch and achieve phenominal rates of growth. The answer is simple...............................vast amounts of money being invested by their owners. VK, I'm sure, would love to have access to similar treasuries that these gulf state airlines have.

Anyway, it must be Christmas because I haven't been nasty to AVSEC for weeks, and I have just supported LJT!!!

Happy and safe Christmas everyone

SN! You conveniently removed "ET" and KQ" from my list of admired airlines
If you would agree, neither of ET or KQ owners are sitting on unlimited natural gas fields or the hottest free trade zones. Anyway, I think VK is still a very young airline and hopefully the IPO scheduled for 2008 could inject fresh, badly needed capital for fleet expansion and product improvements, etc. The recent political events in Nigeria (relatively peaceful PDP presidential primaries, etc.) and an ordely political transition come April could hopefully lower investor fears...

Merry christmas!

PS. SN are you close to the mega supermarket ?

Hi Rani, I left KQ and ET out because they are not new airlines! They have a track record for investors and both have benefitted from some very dynamic management and government decisions. Their Governments have supported the idea of making Nairobi and Addis Ababa by ensuring the airport infrastructure was altered to make the process of hubbing smooth and relatively painless.

What does the Nigerian Govt plan to do? It plans to move the domestic feeder operations of VK into a seperate terminal on the other side of the airport, with no viable airside transfer system on offer, and into a terminal that is already too small for the flights that will be operating from it During the construction of the domestic areas in the International terminal the Govt, using FAAN, constantly delayed and failed to pay for work which had been agreed was their responsibility during the planning stage of VK.So VK had to dig deep into its own coffers to fund the work that had to be done. So with VK redesigning and constructing a pleasant and clean check-in area the airport/government sees fit to throw them out and over to the inadequate new Domestic terminal which doesn't have sufficient gates or stands for the volume of flights.

This will mean significant additional cost for VK as it will have a split operation requiring additional equipment and manpower. Fleet flexibility will be fecked as it will no longer be a quick turn for the a/c to arrive from ACC - LOS and then operate an LOS - ABV. Either the a/c is towed from Int to Dom (at a cost to VK) or the pax are bussed across, but this cannot happen as there isn't a perimeter road and crossing the live runway doesn't seem the best plan to me.

So in short the Nigerian Govt. has bloody mindedly decided it needs VK (and Arik) in its new inadequate domestic terminal and **** the idea of Lagos ever becoming a regional hub. Great vision guys

In answer to your location question Rani, Up at the Blue Tower end of the road leading from Starbucks or is it Costa Coffee on the corner.

SN,

You're missing the fact that this is what Bluetail and Aero have had to contend with for years, while Virgin was granted the unbelievable privilege of operating both domestic and international flights from the same terminal. Granted Bellview and Aero are not operating international flights direct to Europe, but they have both had international flights for quite a few years (especially Bellview) and passengers arriving on these have had to put up with transferring to the present hopelessly inadequate domestic terminal or the overcrowded aero terminal. On routes where Virgin competes direct with Bellview and Aero, such as Lagos - Accra or Lagos - Douala, they have hitherto had a great advantage. Now the playing field will be levelled to the disadvantage of all . Will Arik also have to move to the new domestic terminal? What will happen to the old (present) domestic terminal?

As you so rightly say, it also highlights the lack of any viable inter-terminal transfer system. It's time FAAN got off its butt, purchased some decent transfer coaches and that they were then given priority over other traffic for routes between the terminals. No, wait...... sorry-oh....stupid me. With Nigerian drivers the coaches would have a huge motorcade the same as every VIP or CBN convoy as it cuts its way through all the go-slows

Oil revenues could be used to smarten up Lagos' international airport's terminal. Airside refreshment facilities are pretty basic. No hand towels or toilet paper available in the loos but each I used had an attendant asking if I had "something" for them. It is certainly no Dubai.

Agreed, the urgency is there however I doubt the government will put a dime from its own money to improve or expand MMIA int. terminal in a significant manner. Rather, they are likely to continue their Build-operate-transfer or concession approach as per the new domestic terminal.

Upgrading the international terminal from government money is a matter open to debate, since the Obasanjo government is trying to divest from infrastructural projects (opting instead for private projects).

I think MMIA is potentially a money spinner so long as the government delivers its side of the bargain on airside (functional and safe runways) as well as enabling environment for ground suppot. I heard Swissport is starting ops ex LOS and ABV in Feb. can anyone confirm this?

Is the reason there is an RJ painted in Arik livery sitting and doing nothing at Great Falls Airport in Montana right now?

Rani, swissport operate out of ABV,LOS and PHC providing aviation security services for Air france,Emirates,North American Airlines and Lufthansa.
Their inadmissible records are very poor in travel document screening, but they have been able to provide a minimal standard in securing their clients operations.

Sure, but as I inferred in my post Swissport is supposed to commence full ground handling operations from LOS / ABV in Feb.

Question When Will Arik start flights LOS - PHC NAF?

Has anybody any information on when Arik will start flights between Lagos and the NAF Base in Port Harcourt? I have some business do there and need to be there by 10 January? If not Arik, are any other airlinessoon going to start schedule service on that route? I have been to Arik website, but last news on the Newsletter is 15 November.

AG,
I really doubt that the Airforce are happy to actually accommodate civil airplanes on their base, but who knows eh? Anything is possible in my home!
Happy new year to you all.

LJT,

The Air Force has had more than 20 civil helicopters operating from it base for the last couple of years and aero and the governor have been operating fixed wing aircraft there since soon after the closure of international. I guess that in our nascent democracy the military have to learn to co-exist better with we civilians and many of our airfields are already joint civil/military (like DNMM!).

AG, 18L,

I think it's just a matter of when the new terminal is finished and the new links through to the runway are completed. I believe that it will also be open to other operators, as that was the original intention. The GOO has stated that the Air Force will not allow anything as large as a B737 to operate into the base, despite the newly-resurfaced runway being long enough to operate them. So it looks as if CRJ 900 will be the largest size of aircraft allowed in, but it would also, of course, allow operations by Dash 8s and ATR 42s.

I don't think aero sell tickets on their flights into NAF. They have direct flights from Lagos as well as flights to Osubi, but it's like the old club they used to run, where blocks of seats are sold to oil companies and they allocate them to their staff.

Arik are being uncharacteristically quiet as to when they're going to start operating into the NAF, which is surprising when you consider what a huge demand there is for such a service, even if a prmium fare were to be charged.

Still No News of Arik and Port Harcourt

Well the Harmattan has stopped all flying out of NAF for the last few days anyway. I see that there's no work in progress at Arik's new terminal. Has anybody heard whether this is just because of the holidays or is there really more substance behind the rumours of problems at Arik? I hope not, because with DNPO closed down and the dangerous road journey between Oweri and Port Harcourt there's an urgent need for a scheduled civil service into NAF Base.
