Arik Air

hey guys Arik is quiet about start date, whats up with that?

Rani 16th Sep 2006 07:59

Nothing new!

And we thought Virgin Nigeria is secretive!

Arik Air commencement date was pushed from June to July, then to August, then September, then October, then (????).

Who's in charge of their planning department I wonder! Is it really rocket science to schedule a sensible launch plan.

I gather they were facing severe difficulties in HR, not enough local pilots, etc. Perhaps they want to avoid a showdown with the media about an expats invasion of the workplace.

oba_idan_amani 16th Sep 2006 16:26

They should be starting operations towards the end of October. Some pilots are in Canada right now doing the CRJ type rating.

Hey guys,
As far as i've heard, arik is billed for jan.
They are having political,HR, operational and other problems for now.
The poor pay for now and equating that of the expats with that of the locals has also been an issue.
Delivery dates for the resumption of services and the actual line training of crew has turned up as a thorn in the flesh for them too.
As the site says, 'rumour' network, these are all hear says.
:ok:

Flying Touareg 17th Sep 2006 08:19

The moribund aviation schoolin zaria is still waiting for the millions of dollars promised by arik in technical assistance.

LongJohnThomas 17th Sep 2006 10:16

Yeah,
So they can embezzle it and we'd have to call in the EFCC to recover part of it, give them a 6 month sentence and they walk eh?

jagunmolu 18th Sep 2006 08:56

As long as ARIK is not willing to make the job worth the while of pilots can you blame guys for looking at them the way they presently do,i hear they are in the process of poaching crew from other airlines as everybodys presently.I wish them well.Rumour has it that even the guys presently undergoing some sort of training are already disgruntled in far away you know where as dem eye don dey open to orisirisi do not i told you sha as its not my fault.

dejidip 18th Sep 2006 09:27

Omo na wa o,things are not just jelling methinks they need to get some things together becos the signals are disturbing well as you know everyboy has starting hiccups they,ll soon find thier feet not to worry, just finish weti you dey do 1st,all will fall into place. The investment so far is a lot and we guess they just want to get things right.Patience my dear guys it is well:ok:

AVSEC 19th Sep 2006 14:20

From what I hear, closure of PHC affected their start up.They may be looking at ABV as a start up within a month or so.
Owerri was not an option they were willing to consider and regional/international routes were always meant to begin next year.
Afrijet and Qatar also seem to be in the same situation.

Turkish airlines began too quickly and see the problems they are facing.Twenty three inadmissibles returned on a flight about eleven days ago.ALML who look after VK and VS unable to detect horrible travel documents.

Flying Touareg 21st Sep 2006 19:06

i gather that arik has sent 15 cadetso NCAT zaria for the spl course.the so called assistance to the NCAT zaria will be in the form of sponsoring cadets:confused:

dejidip 21st Sep 2006 19:43

Hearsay

A little bird just let me know that they intend to poach disgruntled pilots from existing 737/300 Operators, even willing to pay back bonds to cut losses nice idea i guess.but with the salaries being bandied i want to see how this can happen we are watching. We wish them the best.discriminatory salaries:mad:guys decamp, change dermis,go through an employment agency and earn more bread c.l.omentality;NA WA OOOO

LongJohnThomas 22nd Sep 2006 09:37

DejiDip,
Nice one man.
The truth is Vk WILL be losing a few soon enough, their salaries are absolute crap considering the type of taxation involved, i would not send my enemy to that camp, not worth it!
To fly much smaller airplanes, you get more, how did they work it out?
Arik itself will have to do a bit better salary-wise, they seem to be lagging behind there.
:ok:
Again, sn, only an opinion!!!! Not personal.

AVSEC 22nd Sep 2006 11:47

I must say the Arik COO,Director ground handling operations, and security manager have impressed our guys in Nigeria.
Very meticulate in the way they seem to be gearing up for their operations.
Impressions are that they may become the most security conscious Nigerian carrier the way they seem to be going.
:D
Sponsoring Cadets to NCAT is laudable, after all they are a business, and contributing positively to the aviation industry to show corporate responsibility must be applauded:D

I really want them to succeed, just like I need VK to succeed.Good luck Bellview and Aero:ok:

18left 23rd Sep 2006 15:19

got to agree with LJT and DEJIDIP they wont pay locals well but if you come in through a contract company ..........$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
whos fooling who?

dejidip 25th Sep 2006 12:26

No Problem

They will learn the way all the carriers do the hard way, the only way.And whoever is advising on this 2nd hand sl....ry will have a rethink.Rumour has it that Naija pilots are perceived as overrated and overpaid. The dark side of it is that you become a training and type rating company irrespective of your BOND.You can imagine the effect on Aviation Safety to have a disgruntled pilot at the controls of an aircraft, but anyway sha its not by Force and its not my Fault:ooh: :ooh:

jagunmolu 26th Sep 2006 11:30

Patience

Lets wait and see what this guys have up thier sleeves you dont bash people for just intent this is not a law court, the pilots are getting trained or in the process, let the type rated contractors and the planes arrive ,they are barely short finals to 18R ,lets watch the operations vis a vis,and then you,ll be cleared to issue BITTERNESS like my good friend will always say,TIME WILL TELL :suspect: :suspect:

Rani 28th Sep 2006 07:53

Initial flight schedules

From the looks of it Arik will start with 5 x daily Lagos-Abuja rotations.

With modern equipment and booming Abuja traffic (elections 07, etc.) this airline is bound to succeed. That's if they keep their head above the Nigerian swamp!!!

HZ123 28th Sep 2006 10:18

Aside; There are two ARIK 733's parked and waiting to go at SEN. The a/c have seemingly been ready for 6-8 weeks now. Both are ex United a/c and look good in the livery. Having recently spken to a Virgin Nigeria chao he said the Arik have a lot of government backing and the result is that V N have been shafted.

Flying Touareg 28th Sep 2006 15:50

Arik has started an unprecedented media campaign. Buying more than 4 pages in different newspapers is no small money and even VK couldnt have done it.:)
Apart from daily flights to ABV, they are also announcing daily flights to kano, calabar and PH.

But the the question is WHEN:confused:

biggie 28th Sep 2006 22:43

well i guess they will start very soon, but no driver is taken up there offer, pilots are leaving for vk and aero, so too bad for arik, if they want crew they need to pay good bread, its all about BREAD.....the foreigners are making good bread in arik, what can i say, monkey dey work baboon they chop:ok:
