Well, that was an easy day's fishing!
Oh yes please
BTW. What the heck else do you brief them about? You're not one of the miserable buggers that gets into the crew car with your EPT clutched in your hand are you BANANAS? Won't have a conversation because you've been GABIfied...

I hope your on board crm is better than your prune manners.

If I may quote part of your reply to WK;
"....my response was limited to the Tablet, not how I work around it's shortcomings."
I disagree. It was exactly about how you work around it's shortcomings, or in your particular case, not bother.
".....so I shall apologies to my crew on behalf of Emirates that, once again, I am unable to brief them".
Were you ever working here before GABI was available? Serious question. Just curious what or who you blamed before we adopted it. Don't you ever use the hard copy as WK pointed out? This over reliance on GABI and expectation that it's almost mandatory to use before flights is becoming ridiculous. It's a tool to help us. If our tablets can't download it, report it. Let the Company sort out the debacle and just do what needs to be done to get the job done safely. We have enough resources for that anyway so why use a dysfunctional system that's still under trial to cover for lack of basic resilience and common sense.
Also, whether we like it or not, the role of commander comes with some basic responsibilities.......responsibility being one of them! Starting your brief by blaming the Company is hardly a good example, especially when there are 'work arounds'.

Life was simpler back in the day Harry. We didn't need "work arounds". We had a simple briefing area, Jepps that were reliable and available and time to brief. Easy.
Since you bring up the old days Harry, we don't have the band width here to list all of the subjects we have had to be "resilient" with. Since they used that in CRM, the definition was the ability to bounce back or recover from an unexpected adversity. Anything that this place adopts or tries to reinvent will create a resilience event for all of us. The more correct term should be "adapt". The key is to bounce back from an (singular) unexpected event. We can expect ANYTHING rolled out here from the introduction of LIDO, to new uniforms, to dysfunctional EFBs and portals to be an something that we have "work around".
But because we adapt so easily and readily, the company never sees the need to correct their ineptness. We're like abused wives. Not only are our rosters fatiguing, but constantly picking up the company's pieces leads to frustration. fatigue, and stress. As the next event is unfolding now, we will be resilient to most all destination hotels to be located at the airport.
BTW, the company has an unwritten expectation of having the GABI briefing examined before meeting for the brief.

I am not going to be side tracked from pointing out the rude and unprofessional reply from someone who, probably, should know better.
Of course we can give approximate times, altitudes, an idea of the weather etc. But that is not the point and not what this thread is about, is it!
The accuracy of information that could be briefed prior to getting the hard copy was severely compromised and that was due to the poor performance of the new portal. That was my point and I stand by it. You can 'get used' to the shortcomings of the portal (as you previously mentioned) if you wish. I expect that if my employer gives me a tool for a job that it is fit for purpose.
The response from WK was just plain rude.
Perhaps a review of what the first 'p' in pprune stands for should be mandatory before some people post.
This site is used by journalists et al as a source of supposedly high quality reference. If this is the best we can manage then our professional standards (and standing) have slipped alarmingly from when I started flying almost 40 years ago.

Errr...if it is professional respect you desire, perhaps your words would carry more gravitas if not spoken by BANANASBANANAS from Knoteatingham?
Hey, we all want to be respected, but this is the internet, not the House of Lords.

Regarding location. Have you been here long enough to know what the 'cameleers' are?
Back to the thread.
The portal is not fit for purpose. Discuss!

Back on topic.
Now that the Sept rosters are out - cannot avoid accessing the portal. Is it me or is it even slower now?
The ROSTER page is really showing its true glory today.
It's like the dial up internet

I'm sure many don't disagree with your comments, myself included. Surely then, our exposure to this constant disappointment is reason not to get stressed about something that is poorly designed or implemented. I know we need these forums to vent our frustration and rightly so but getting our knickers in a twist over something we can manage perfectly well without is pointless. We can manage without GABI. What we need and what we desire are two different things altogether.
As for the Company 'expectation', they can expect all they like. We went down that same path for several years with the famous 'timeline' until it was quietly removed due to 'non compliance'. The GABI system is no different. It's a tool to help us familiarise ourselves with operational issues....if we so wish. The report time has now been increased and is more than sufficient to conduct an efficient and relevant briefing without relying on briefing at home.
Unless you prefer to do the standard briefing of " Hi mate, looked at Gabi? Yes, you? Yes. Right, lets get a Costa!

The ROSTER page is really showing its true glory today.
It's like the dial up internet
It's like the dial up internet
It should be a working tool for us. Agreed that it is a tool for all involved in operations, but the "other guys an gals" are in Dubai, have a somewhat high speed connection, a working telephone right next to them, normal working hours where any call will (or better: could) be answered on the spot. We however are dispersed all over the whole friggin planet, over multiple timezones, with jurassic internet connections, when the hard-costa-drinking-notsoworkforce is sound asleep.
WE NEED A FAST, RELIABLE AND EASILY READABLE PAGE!!!!!!!
Not that crammed bs looking like a silly US add with tons of fine-print and completely useless links that don't work anyway.
Apparently they got "good and bad" feedback. Where would any "good" come from? It's either as slow as a response from personaltravel, or it crashes when hitting any link. I definitely expect a new site NOT to constantly need clearing of all my browsers, histories and photos from all my exes before it deigns to work.
When they state that "much of what you raised is covered in the FAQ which we are updating regularly", this effectively means they put the answers and solutions on the very pages we have a hard time to access and constantly crash!!!!!
Wow!!
KISS just SPRING[S] to my mind

For the enroute part of the brief why not a single page which lists those alternates which do NOT have:
-an into-wind, ILS-equiped runway of at least 3000m length
-weather better than VFR
If that were the custom most flights you do would present to you a blank page for en-route briefing.

I watched an obviously new Capt last week briefing his FO while standing in the COSTA queue. Poor guy looked completely harassed already. Capt didn't even have a coffee either.
Also love the guys who come down in the hotel at pickup and straight after the opening greeting ask you if you have seen GABI. Really thought there was more to life. Sad.

" how long have you been there ? "
" what's your next flight ? "
" how is your roster ? " .....
Now as Captain, I always try to be a little bit more lively, concerned, maybe even joking, well whatever in order to be considerate towards the colleague...

Hi all,
I have been on a 6 day trip with work and have yet to be able to access the portal. Since I don't have company emails coming to my phone, can any body tell me if the portal is down or whats going on. Neither of us on this trip can get it to work and several of the crew said they can't access trips. Anybody know whats going on?

lol, i know right! But in all fairness, haven't tried logging on from there yet, maybe thats my problem. Oh a serious note, I guess that means its just the few of us here that are having issues and the portal is working (if you can call it that) every where else. Not sure whats going on, very strange.

Anyone has the same problem?
What are those moneys in IT doing?
Just keep flooding them with emails.....
Pay peanuts, get monkeys, nothing new here
