Interviews, jobs & sponsorshipDo ya feel lucky, Punk? Well do ya? If so, here's the place to swap the hot gen on who's sponsoring or employing, their selection criteria, and where those oh so elusive first jobs can be spotted in the wild. Watch out for the tumbleweeds...
I am new on this thread! and i would really appreciate if somebody of you could just tell me exactly what CTC means when they say that u ll need to meet their high standards prior to accessing the cadet holding pool!
Hello to all...been following the thread for a while now and I am considering this scheme.I'd like to thank the contributors to this forum as I've found the information to be very helpful. The last post mentioning any sort of movement on the pool was in mid march, when some people claimed that the cadets pool was empty. My point is,how many cadets course finish every month,or are schedule to finish in the next 3-4 months, plus, what's the situation now?anyone getting calls(or anyone you might know) from the ATP pool?I'll have to make a decision eventually but Before I visit the Flyer exhibition on saturday and put my application through I'd like to gather as much info as I can,and obviously the ones coming from CTC will be biased.Cheers
Why don't you ask them how many people are currently in the pool? It's a funny question really. I got a good laugh when they told me " 30 to 40". So they've set up this ATP pool for when the cadet one is empty, are handling recruitment and selection for massive airline companies, but don't know exactly how many people are in this pool?? Really?? Truth is, it's apparently in the low 60's. Cadet flow has been quite low from the end of 2011 and start of 2012, but picking up as we speak. It's hard to get any reliable info as they like to keep it secret.
SKY 85: read the forums and please don't head into this sort of program without get proper info
Just heard a guy has had his assessment day cancelled as they have met there requirements. I also heard through someone who had an assessment this week none of them in his assessment got through... coincidental?
So far I've heard that the hold pool had 34 people swimming and the Wings pool was empty, then I heard that both pools were empty, then I've heard that CTC were considering closing of the AQC to externals and only CTC modular trainees could undertake it.
So many rumours, really is quite ridiculous. The fact is it's basically ten grand for a 36hr JOC and some unwritten promise of perhaps the opportunity to part with another ten for a TR with an airline then work 500hrs or whatever just being paid 'expenses' or flight pay only to have to face the real possibility of then ending up back in the hold pool again.
Fact is no one actually knows any bloody facts! All I know is I can't get a job with EZY, Monarch or Thomson because they have an agreement with CTC...this probably also extends to QR, dragon and CX....who knows who else is to follow. The EZY contract doesn't have much value left in it so I would hazard a guess at more ME/Far East stuff.
Please note: The CTC Wings ATP route is currently closed for applications. At this time we have fulfilled the requirement for CTC Wings ATP and we have, therefore, temporarily closed the application system for new CTC Wings ATP applicants. Please enter your email address below to register for updates or monitor the website over the coming months for further updates on when the programme is likely to re-open."
After sending an application online beginning of april, I received an email telling me that I passed phase 1 and had to book an assessment online. This was april 23th. That same day I visited the website looking for available assessment dates. There was just one date available: may 29th. Next day I went to the website again to confirm my assessment but I was already to late. All places gone.
A few days later when I tried the exact same as explained before it happened to me again. One date available (want to arrange things for my trip to Southampton) next day fully booked.
They mustn't be making enough money on the ATP scheme. Good business sense. Fleece people by charging them over the odds for their training (I mean why let people who've trained elsewhere join CTC). And then tie them into a slave labour contract and then kick them out after 500 hours to make way for the next bath of silver spooned teenagers ready to sped a serious amount of daddy's money. Perfect!
We're about to see a massive lull in airline recruitment. Airlines continue to go bust and now there are even more experienced pilots looking for a job. Their hold pool for the ATP scheme isn't empty like some people say, it's at least 60+.
Don't be fooled by easyJets strong market position. They aren't expanding and we're heading into a rough trading environment, in a softening European market. Monthly A320 deliveries are replacing the 2004 A319s, contributing towards a stronger dilution of A319:A320 which requires no more flight deck positions than before. The only thing that is changing is capacity, not fleet size.
CTC probably make more money placing you with an airline on the flexicrew scheme than they do on putting you through AQC and TR. They have a history of turning the ATP scheme on and off like a tap so I wouldn't look into it too much. It's almost like an emergency workforce supply when demand suddenly peaks.

It lines that CTC supply to are not at risk of going bust. Ezy, BE, MON etc.
Well Dominoes Pizza forbid me of trying to perform VOR/DME's approaches while delivering their pizzas, apparently the pepperonis were displaced...So,this ATP thing was the last hope for a 30 year old here in UK,It was between getting a instructors rating but then, there's little prospects on that too. I've attended the Flyer professional flight training exhibition a week ago and I have to say, what a load of bull...!The funniest thing is that BALPA also has a stand in there and you wish someone in the Union would try to influence, push to a tighter control(don't want to sound naive but..) You see some companies like ACA,CTC,CAE,OAA etc.. going on about "the massive pilot shortage that we're facing..",it's almost criminal, and very unethical business practices I would say. I see it in a similar fashion as the way the banking crisis started, bank loans to people and business who couldn't afford it?well, they are selling courses in masses, promising the misinformed something they can barely deliver if at all(not taking personal responsibility of the issue,no one should jump into this without researching). Anyway, looking at my case,30 now and used to work for an airline, only started flight training because I thought that the 2008 crisis would be somewhat over by 2012 and I was wrong,I couldn't predict anyway.A lot of my flight crew colleagues told me to go for it as the timing would be right, and it did seem right. Now I have the blue book,my old job won't take me back because of the "merger" they are going through... although I had a contract,so that back up plan failed.Been turned down by other jobs in other sectors because I have a pilots license,I'm either over-qualified or they fear I will leave once a pilot job show's up,when I omit the fact I have a license,it gives me 1 year 1/2 gap to fill in....So,got good reasons for a very strong drink this friday night lol Where are you guys going from now?as I stand,116 applications(non aviation)10 responses,3 interviews=no offer,2 cabin crew applications,1 interview=got the job but on hold pool, can be on it for a year or more apparently(was told that BA, for example, last year they had over 10,000 candidates, some with masters degrees, this country is going down the pan...) ah...I am also sick and tired of this Sorry for hijacking the thread
Times have changed with regards to the age thing. In 1995 the fact you are 30 may have worked against you but it's not much of an issue anymore from what I have seen. Others may disagree.
I'd steer well clear of CTC for the time being. £8K can be better spent on something like a FI rating. It's a shame because the GAPAN FI scholarship closed recently which may have been worth applying for. I wish I did..
