Hmmm you think foot dragging on commercial decisions affects MAN and not LHR due to a pro LHR view in Whitehall? Have you followed the debacle of the third runway? Whitehall attracts the sort of people who would struggle to find their own buttocks with both hands and a torch, no conspiracy is needed to explain the incompetence of HM Civil Service.

Wow, the 25 years since EK arrived at Manchester have really flown by. Remember well the pre-launch flights using a brand new Airbus that had been collected from Toulouse the previous afternoon - I seem to think we were the first passengers to sit on those seats. Was served an excellent lunch and drinks whilst on a 90 minute circuit of the North of Scotland. Think there were two such flights before the plane operated a scheduled service to DXB the following day.

Saudia will use the B787 on the SV123/124 from 1/3/16, confirmed on their website.
Daily flights expected from May when dispatch reliability of the B787 is known.

Sounds promising for Saudia.
An article in the M.E.N. to mark the 5th anniversary of EK's first A380 service into MAN, although nothing definite as to when all 3 flights will be A380.
Third super jumbo anyone? Emirates say they are 'looking all the time' to add another A380 to Manchester routes - Manchester Evening News

Prediction for 2016
My predicted routes for next year are Santiago de Compostela, Florence, Seville and Bari based on where gaps in the network are and existing bases operated by airlines currently served from MAN. I've no inside knowledge just guesswork. What do others think?

DomyDom, I believe Florence and Seville were 2 likely routes mentioned by LAX LHR to be operated by Vueling next summer. And I seem to recall Santiago de Compostela being a possible destination for easyjet.
The routes you mention are all Southern Europe. Personally, I would also like MAN to develop more business in Eastern Europe and the Baltic states but some of those routes are already established from Liverpool. How much of a hindrance that is, I'm not sure.

Adria have operated twice weekly summer scheduled services to Ljubljana from Manchester for many many years already.
Fares not necessarily cheap however many seats taken up by Shearings coach crowd and the Blue Rinse brigade on holidays around Lake Bled.
Belgrade without the coast and the once cheap Australia connection no longer viable imo.
Zagreb see above . Croatia is all about the Adriatic.
As LHR-LAX points out both Seville and Florence likely by Vueling soon.
Give up on Russia for the foreseeable future - The Economy is sunk.
Further Eastern Europe well just Bucharest left of any value imo.
Manchester and the North West probably needs to resurrect some of the Southern France routes again as the economy continues to improve and as for Italy how's about Rimini and Brindisi both were popular some years ago before Italy priced itself out of the UK mass tourist markets.
As for Santiago De Compostela/Vigo something tells me these would perform better from Ryanair out of Liverpool among certain communities.
From Manchester with Vueling wouldn't they go to A Coruna if they operated into this region ?

Regarding Santiago de Compostela wasn't it one of the FR routes from LPL pre-FR at MAN that was eventually pulled? I could easily see it working from MAN pulling the well healed weekend break crowd as does Bilbao and Porto - so probably a good fit for EZY.

Routes
Hey everyone, not sure if these have been mentioned but according to airlineroute, Condor are to start a seasonal service to Lanzarote from the 14th Feb to the 26th Apr every Sunday with a 757, also Thomson are starting a service to Aruba. Apologies if this has already been discussed

looks like MAN could exceed 23million by year end from the looks of those figures.
Also reported elsewhere, Jet2 have agreed to by 27 737-800 (NG).

This is a massive development and much success wished for Jet2.. However, surely the airline model now must fundamentally change. Given that there has been a huge seasonal factor with significant winter downtime with older aircraft that are lower cost, will this new order and associated cost drive a need for Jet2 to enter the business market?
Given Ryanair's scale and financial strength, clear they could withstand parking scores of aircraft across the winter... It too has sought out primary airports to reverse this situation, and given its growth path and expansion it can ensure the fleet is utilised significantly...
Or perhaps Jet2 are planning expansion outside of the UK? It would seem to me that their specific target market is package holidays and to some extent the city breaks piece...

They're getting them quick enough! I wonder if these are partly from other operators orders that have fallen through? I suspect they are getting them cheap but good for them if so. Obviously their business model does not allow for waiting for the 737MAX to come out as you eluded too.
I wonder how many of these will be used to replace older models and how many are going to increase capacity. They have 21 737 classic and 12 757 in their fleet that might be getting long in the tooth. It could be that the net gain in aircraft is negligible?
