SIM ride

According to Bus Driver, who was writing on the Easyjet salary for first officers tread, he attended the SIM ride a couple of days after the assessment centre in Burgess Hill on A320.....

Alexander de Meerkat 31st July 2013 17:46

It is official - if you are non-rated you will be assessed in a 737, but if you are rated you will be assessed in an A320.

Anyone prepared to offer feedback of the assessment in Luton?

RexBanner 4th August 2013 20:46

I think clearly judging by the deathly silence/absence of feedback so far there have been some "advisories" about putting stuff on pprune

Fliegenderflieger 5th August 2013 06:57

9000hrs, some of them on A320
Right now flying ATR in Asia, sometimes "singlehand..."
Would love to go back to Europe.
If i hear that easy assesment trash i stay a while in Asia.
Have done assesments in England some years ago, there is no need for me to do that overdrawn style of assesment again.

A4 5th August 2013 07:35

there is no need for me to do that overdrawn style of assesment again.
With due respect, with that attitude, I think you'll remain in your ATR in Asia for sometime - which is fine if you're happy.

An honest question - why do you think you should be exempt from assessment compared to everyone else? You are obviously experienced - but that's only part of it. I've met many "experienced" pilots over the years and some of them were stunningly bad.....that's why everyone needs to be assessed...to weed out the great pretenders.

Additionally when you get over 3,000 (!) applicants for your advertised positions you can be picky and set as many hoops as you like - if you don't want to jump through the hoops that's fine......but that will prevent you from possibly being in the LHS of an Airbus in a few years with one of the most successful airlines on earth.

There is no malice or sarcasm in my post - just genuine questions.

pitotheat 5th August 2013 08:19

FdF
It will appear you will be flying in Asia for some time if you are unwilling to invest a bit of effort in realising your wish to return to Europe.
As a general comment why do some people expect to have an unfair advantage over others by expecting leaked information from the interview and assessment process? Why would someone, having just gone through it, then tell everyone else? In addition, would you accept at face value information posted on a website by a stranger?
There is a wealth of information available on this site and others detailing what goes on at the assessment days over the years. The basic process and what is looked for is unchanged for 12+ years.

Anyone been offered a contract yet?

B767PL 5th August 2013 18:10

Interesting some opinions here. In the US there is gouge after gouge after gouge all over various job search websites for the local major and legacy and regional carriers. Accessible to anyone so anyone. Seems pretty taboo here from what I see the idea of it. But if you pass selection and get accepted why wouldn't you help out some fellow pilots?

Could someone tell something interesting about the assessment in luton?
It will be at the academy. Hope it helps..

danito 9th August 2013 14:31

Thank's a lot!! You've a lot of interesting info!!

f27m50 10th August 2013 08:45

as a reply to some of you who have been calling the industry really
bad,i call it a BUSINESS people!

how about this as a small example:

a guy ive known for many years through highschool wanted to become an airline pilot.we enrolled in the same class in the same academy.he flunked out after the theory because he was having trouble with it.

he then went on to
another school,where things went better
and
he managed to get his license
after
2 atpl's and
about 140k lighter.

he just informed me,that after a year of jobhunting to no avail, hes starting in september with a company in italy (i think linetraining.net) a typerating + linetraining package for 68000€ to probably get the hours with tunisair.

i wish him all the best, but on the other hand,i have difficulty accepting that this person will be sitting
at the controls of an airliner carrying hundreds of people every day, thanks to a simple payment.as if a doctor
who fails medschool could
pay a big check and still treat patients
like you and me?

i know this is off topic, but its also the gruesome reality of what the industry is doing nowadays, and certainly a motivation for me to join a quality employer lile easyjet so ill never ever have to do this like that
guy!

comments are obviously welcome! nice weekend
guys

Everyone will pay £20k for their Type Rating on the Non type rated stream

Everyone will pay £20k for their Type Rating on the Non type rated stream

Not true. Not everyone will pay.

Remember, here we are not talking about starry eyed kids fresh out of training with huge debts to service, whose mummy and daddies are mortgaged upto the hilt.:{ Fortunately those days are rapidly coming to an end thanks to all the credit crunching.:ok:

Those pilots who applied have served their time, most likely are already in gainful employment and have their CVs on lots of different desks already.

From an observers point of view £20 000 seems a bit steep for a bus rating if correct sk8erboi, especially for experienced pilots with medium jet time. There are a lot of airbus sims in Europe not doing much just now.

transitionlevel 14th August 2013 04:24

I'm heading off to the big orange hangar this week. Some on my assesment day have been invited to select a day for a sim ride before they have attended the interview but not me. How many others received an email before their interview and if so when?

flyer19832007 15th August 2013 00:28

seems a bit odd that no more assessment days are available, and also some are being cancelled yet parc are advertising for A320 FOs?

flyingcamel 15th August 2013 21:53

Hmmmm, that is odd. For my part, when the assessment days started appearing I was on earlies and never found anything on the system in the afternoon once I'd got home and logged on. Once I transitioned to lates I would sit from 8am logged in and would refresh every few minutes until I had to leave for work around 12-1pm and never got a sniff.

Maybe the cynics were right?

Alexander de Meerkat 16th August 2013 00:19

Fliegenderflieger - As others have mentioned, do not hold your breath for a return to Europe any time soon.

B767PL - I am afraid I found your post incomprehensible, but quite interesting nonetheless! Can you tell me what you mean by 'gouge after gouge after gouge all over various job search websites for the local major and legacy and regional carriers. Accessible to anyone so anyone. Seems pretty taboo here from what I see the idea of it.' What are the 'gouges' to which you refer? What do you mean by 'accessible to anyone so anyone'? What it is that seem pretty taboo here?

StopStart 16th August 2013 00:28

"Gouge" is US slang (but also widely used elsewhere) for important information.

U.S. Navy Slang

In U.S. Navy jargon, gouge is the essential piece of information; the heart of the matter; or outstanding test-preparation material (such as an old test copy). A person who is tired of hearing all the extraneous information surrounding a problem might exclaim "Just give me the gouge!"
He's referring to the seeming secrecy surrounding the sharing of information on this site.

Obvs.
