Starbear i am only stating facts, i am in no way implying anything and of course all decisions that are taken regarding percentage contracts will be in no way emotionally driven they will all be financially driven. However aviation changes faster than you can turn a 757 round, so you have to at some point cast your vote or you sit on the side lines hoping for the dream ride. All i am stating is what happened and yes it was quite out of the blue. It may not happen again or it may .. who knows .. Good Luck to All whichever way you decide.

My advice would be to ignore the "outraged of Gatwick" talk on here, do your sums if the contract adds up for you, if the base adds up for you , if you like the company then make your own mind up. But keep an open mind but your eyes open !

Well the BA application is up and running, will be interesting to see what impact it has...

zimoke 1st October 2010 10:50

Quiet

It All seems to have gone very quiet. I put an application in some time ago, I've only had the confirmation of receipt of application back. Still I live in hope

Crosswind Limit 1st October 2010 11:01

I don't think BA offers of employment are around the corner. It's most likely a case of going into the hold pool until they need you. Worth waiting for if you can, instead of contributing to Jet2s revenues.

monkeynutz 1st October 2010 12:13

Well not what I've been told, mate of mine at BA said that the need for 80 pilots was for the summer 2011 season.

See BA memo below;
October Recruitment
Company email from a senior manager sent to all BA pilots:

Due to growth in our Summer 2011 flying programme, we anticipate a need to recruit pilots to ensure we have the correct pilot establishment to fly the programme.

A business case has been submitted and we have received approval to recruit 80 pilots in the financial year 2011 to 2012. Once more detail emerges about the planned flying programme for Winter 2011 a further review will take place, which may result in the need to submit a further business case for additional pilot recruitment.

Our campaign to recruit 80 pilots for next summer will open on 1 October 2010 and will initially be for pilots with a current type rating and at least 500 hours flying on the A320, B757/767 or B737. If and when we gain approval to recruit pilots beyond the initial 80 for Summer 2011, we may at some point widen the campaign to include SSPs and DEPs without a type rating on an aircraft type that we operate.

When we closed the last recruitment campaign in 2008 there were 118 pilots in our “hold pool”, made up of a combination of DEPs and SSPs. We have written to all 118 to advise them of the current situation and what options are available to them individually.

On the subject of Jet2 I believe that all the low houred inexperienced guys have been selected and start their training on Monday. There is a pool of some more low houred guys who I guess are on standby in case they can't get enough experienced non TR guys for their 2 November courses that are willing to pay and don't need to give 3 months notice to present employers.

The assessment this week involved experienced non TR guys (and girls) for both FO and Capt positions 737 and 757. About 15 on the day mainly from the regionals (BMIR, Eastern, Logan etc) I believe they are looking for about 25 experienced non TR guys split between 73 and 75.

O815 questions split 50/50 between the 2 types, see earlier post for examples and revise definitions eg what is LDA

regards

skyhigher 1st October 2010 16:24

what is the deal?

can anyone who has been to the assessment day post details of what the actual deal on offer is? are jet2 offering to pay back the SSTR over a number of years or is it simply you pay them? is it a summer only contract with no contract for next summer?

NukeHunt 2nd October 2010 03:54

Quick Question,....

What did the confirmation email say ?. I only received a notification of my username and password, and thought this was it, however I have just opened it and re-read it (bit late after a month I know), and it says "We look forward to receiving your completed application".

This has now confused me, as I received it after I had clicked "Submit" with all sections ticked as complete, now I'm thinking that they don't actually have my application at all....despite their website telling me my application has been submitted when I clicked "Submit"....

flieng 2nd October 2010 11:28

Jet 2 "deal"

Skyhigher, no specifics mentioned at my interview. But mostly 70% contracts and some 100%. Heard nothing else yet.

cl601 driver 2nd October 2010 15:11

B757 bases

can anyone tell me where the bases are that Jet2 operate the B757 pls, as I have applied for this type only.

Firestorm 2nd October 2010 15:24

I think that the 757 is Castle Donnington only.

Jockflyer 2nd October 2010 15:54

Iknow someone who has been offered FO position on 757 in GLA on 70% contract. They had no jet experience.

757 Speedbrakes 2nd October 2010 18:59

can anyone tell me where the bases are that Jet2 operate the B757 pls, as I have applied for this type only.
MAN, LBA, NCL, GLA & EMA

1 x 757 to Ema will most likely be crewed by internal base transfers, unlikely as a new start you will get Ema base as there are alot of current crew wanting to relocate further down south from exisiting bases.

2 757's at EMA for S11. Latest rumor is there will be NO internal transfer to EMA due a flight crew deal with DHL, but that rumor should have started with a capital R..... !!

DADDY-OH! 6th October 2010 08:15

Supposedly....

Jet2.com & DHL were to 'crew share' for this winter. The bones of this arrangement was that Jet2.com wanted to send the crews whose contracts were finishing at the end of October & the 70%'ers to DHL, LEI based, for the winter & take 5 Capts & 5 F/O's into Jet2, EMA based, for S11.

The financial arrangements were Jet2 would pay 70% salary to their volunteers & DHL would 'Top- Up' to 100% Jet2 salary, an increase of about £1000/ month after tax, out of which the volunteers would have to find accom. in LEI & travel costs to/from LEI.

In a nutshell, Jet2 wanted the 'late joiners' to sacrifice their 5 months winter 70% paid leave, commute to/from Leipzig, live in Leipzig, for an extra £1000/month, without ANY of the roster protection & financial gain of the deal offered by Contractair, while not having to recruit, promote or transfer 5 Capts & F/O's for EMA. The ignorance of the 'orchestrators' of this arrangement is dazzling. One MAN-based Captain managed to beat the system by taking an 80% 'Winter off' deal from Jet2 & taking the deal from Contractair before they pulled it.

Also, apparently a couple of the 70%'ers & 100%-Fixed Term Contractors wanted an early release (end of Sept) to crew a Haj contracted operation for a Turkish firm but the CP & DFO said 'No! We can't spare you!' Despite the Fleet Manager, Rosterers & Crewers all saying they could spare the 2 Crews!

It's all gone very quiet now... apart from the usual whisperings of people going to Emirates... Etihad... Qatar... FlyDubai, Open Skies... Singapore Cargo... Cathy Cargo... EasyJet... Ryanair... and since the weekend BA!!

Will the last person to leave, please turn out the lights!

PAPI-74 6th October 2010 08:37

I am not convinced that paying to give Jet2 my airline experience is the way forward. Yes I want to move on and get a jet command in a few years time, but what if they can’t find enough people to front the type rating and suddenly half it – or worse bin it?
Can you imagine the resent if that happened, while I live in poverty having borrowed yet more money?
Why should I pay and be in the same category as the pilots recruited with a few hundred hours, against the time I have spent logging thousands – and for 70% of what I am worth?
I was all for it when they called, but having had a while to contemplate the deal, I am loosing enthusiasm to be honest.
Being able to get very easily to the London Airports, there must be something else coming up (no jet time though – but I don’t see how that matters to be honest as turboprops have wings and a glass cockpit too you know).

Jet 2 Phone call

Just had a call asking me for an interview for a 757 position, interview is on Friday in Leeds. Anyone had this and know what to expect? Has anyone else had a call?

binsleepen 6th October 2010 09:03

Airpasty

Have you read this thread?:ugh::ugh::ugh:

PAPI-74 6th October 2010 10:21

Just what I am talking about.

You are owed nothing - work!

Tarzanboy 6th October 2010 10:37

Papi-74, don't worry about the interview, just bring a big bag of money.
They offer you a 70% contract after paying 25k.

PAPI-74 6th October 2010 11:18

I suppose not being bonded leaves you free to leave at anytime. Not a good way to retain their pilots.
I know about the deal as it was all covered in the phone call. My doubts are surfacing after a few nights sleeping on it.

I knew the possiblilty of a bad deal when I filled out the application, but nothing was confirmed. When it became a reality, I was of the opinion that it was a good step to a better deal in the future when they got busy (100% and a Command after a few years), but now I am not sure if it's worth it.

I was of the black 'n' white opinion of not paying for a TR unless the terms matched the risk / outlay. Well this doesn't. If we were talking 55k and 100% I would jump, but maybe's are not good enough to move. Neither is 70% of what is already a low salary for a SFO.
There is also the moving costs, having to rent out my house etc.

I am 50/50 at the moment, but lets see how the tests go 1st.

Spikedog 6th October 2010 11:58

Talk is that they are really struggling to get people to join on these terrible terms. Great news - well done to everyone for turning them down, because soon they are going to have to start paying a proper salary (100%) and maybe bond for the type rating instead of asking for £20k upfront.

Go to the interview, pass the selection and then turn down the rubbish offer. It seems this is the only way management are going to realise.

PAPI-74 6th October 2010 12:19

Maybe we can all hold hands and by numbers drop our trousers together. I am sure we could come up with a long slogan to write across our arse cheeks.

justanotherstat 6th October 2010 13:03

PAPI 74

I think we can go to the assessment with the knowledge there are soon to be plenty of better offers out there.

Current recruiters - GSS another crap deal and poor pay; BA type rated only but if the posters on that thread are anything to go by ( most can't spell and read / follow simple instructions) they will soon be looking for experienced TP guys; Ba Cityflyer - maybe we will operate from LCY next year!; Openskies: Luftansa Italia; etc etc including two 747 cargo operators in Lux.

Looks like the job market is picking pretty quickly. And not everyone can screw the life out of rich kids with ratings.....:D

So go to Jet2.com, pull down your pants, and don't forget to smile.:ok:

Starbear 6th October 2010 13:09

Well, well, well

Talk is that they are really struggling to get people to join on these terrible terms.
Spikedog, looks like you could be right-hot of the Flightglobal press:

We're still searching for more mugs-could it be you?

justanotherstat 6th October 2010 13:42

I notice this describes the Job as permanent. Is that permanently 70% Jet2?:ugh:

Tarzanboy 6th October 2010 14:53

If they would return the 25k quid in 3 years?

Starbear 6th October 2010 15:12

Oh really?

We have vacancies at most of our base ... Job Role: Captain | Job Hours: Full-Time | Location: United Kingdom | Job Position: Permanent | Salary: Competitive Salary & Benefits | Company: Jet2.com | Published Date: 06 October 2010

......competitive? With McDonalds perhaps?

Dan 98 6th October 2010 18:01

Received a phone call this evening asking me whether i could attend an assessment day on the 14th of this month, quick check on the roster and explained I was on a Edi / Ams and couldn't do that date, I asked if that was the only date available?

The response was " Errrrrrr well we don't even have that date confirmed I am just ringing around to see how many can make it"!!!:ugh:

It is like they are making it up as they go along, the chap was however very polite and friendly but seemed almost embarrassed by having to be so vague.

He said he would keep my application live and that I might get another phone call to screen me. I took the opportunity to ask whether it was 70% or 100%, the response was it would almost certainly be 70%, he asked if i would consider that and i said it was not ideal, an awkward silence later he said well i'll keep it live and we'll be intouch!!!

My experience is TR 737 1500hrs on type, 1750+TT so maybe they are running out of people prepared to pay who knows, for me personally I'd struggle to live on 70% pay.

Just thought I'd pass it on.....

Floppy Link 6th October 2010 18:55

Dan
that mirrors my experience this afternoon. Can't make it due to roster clash. He said he'd pass it back to HR and they may have to look at more dates.

Open day

Hi everyone
just wanted to know if anyone else has been asked to an open day on the 14th? Chap on the phone said not an interview, things like info on the company etc. Anyone have any more details on this?

Cheers 73

zimoke 7th October 2010 10:33

Hi 73A
How long was it from the phone interview until being asked to come for the assessment.

73addict 7th October 2010 12:32

Hi
Didn't have a phone interview. Just this call saying could I come up for open day! Maybe as I am already rated! Don't know really. But was just over a month ago when I applied.

Turkish777 7th October 2010 17:14

Got at PFO from MAS this week too, so not been the best week...MY TR ran out 2 weeks ago (Annual not 5 years) as well so not in the best position at the moment..Im a bit concerned now as I dont think im too sought after with an expired B737 Rating..Game over comes to mind..

Crosswind Limit 7th October 2010 17:36

It seems that those who took 70% part time at the last recruitment are being offered full time now. However, having worked the busy summer at 70% pay on the assumption they would have the winter off, they would now move to 100% pay and work the winter without 100% pay being backdated for the summer. Seems a bit preconceived to me.:=

PAPI-74 7th October 2010 18:12

Good Q about the salary start / hotels - anyone?

How do they come to the sum of 25k for a TR?
I guess the change goes in a brown envelope :ouch:

binsleepen 7th October 2010 18:52

Hi,
Am I the only one who asked any questions at the assessment day? Pay starts when type on license, no pay during TR training. TR may cost around £16k not £25k. Phone calls tomorrow. Maybe!!!:ok:

PAPI-74 7th October 2010 19:32

Well 16k is more like it, but 6 weeks without pay is tipping the bloody scale back again.

stansdead 7th October 2010 20:00

What the f?ck....

So, let me get straight on this.

A "chap" from jet2 calls up and asks if you'd like to attend an "information day" some time soon.

The answer is "NO, I WOULD NOT".

What can they possibly tell you about the company? Nothing, I would say.

What can you (or we as a group) tell them about us as pilots by agreeing to such a spineless, non commital offer? Loads: in fact just how low you (we) will stoop to sit in a jet.

Get serious. Jet2 are a professional outfit, testing the market. They know what they want: cheap pilots.

Don't be a fool.:ugh::ugh::ugh::ugh::ugh:
