Thanks again captainplaystation much appreciated

Hi guys, is there anyone on the inside knowing if they hire non-RYR first officers at the moment? I fulfil the requirements and I'm looking for some fresh air :}

Are they still grouping the off-days so that I can goto my home country in northern europe for a visit from time to time? Can you jumpseat on an ID-ticket in case of a full airplane?

captplaystation 17th Feb 2014 17:50

As far as I know there have been non ex FR FO's hired in recent times, even if they are in the minority.

Days off are 12/mth variable, but most contract bases seem to get 3x4 or a 3/4& 5, single days off are rare, although LGW was at one time receiving 3 off with an early start/late finish on the working days, but that seems to have been solved.

Travelling to & from home/work is done on a S2 (Duty SBY) ticket which you request via sms/computer. This takes precedence over leisure travel tickets, even if you are the most junior & the "holidaymaker" the most senior. Jump seats are at Capts discretion, I have never been refused, the only problem is the rules in UK airspace should you end up LGW based.

Sounds like an excellent roster! can you take like 2-3 days of annual leave with one month of notice if something unforeseen happens? or are they picky on granting the leave?

captplaystation 17th Feb 2014 19:00

Leave system (in my experience) leaves a lot to be desired, 2-3 days extra off is very very unlikely, they like it in blocks of 1 week or more.

Others seem to have had more luck with the system, but it could be a lot better.

Request days off, so far has also been "problematical".

Cont.

HEL base... Probably quite good. Last year, 8 out of 12 of my course got HEL. Most of us have since moved base. Quite popular with Scandies... Easy commute for the Swedes.

It's a nice base, and great airport/ATC/ground handling, in my opinion.

:ok:

bringbackthe80s 18th Feb 2014 18:33

Hi guys, sorry if already answered. Just quickly, before committing to joining do you know the base? and say you have the base you want hence you join, do they tend to change that over time or are you relatively safe?

Thanks

LNIDA 18th Feb 2014 20:26

In it to win it

You will not normally know the base before joining and that due to the lead time on the program and recruitment, but you can normally work it out!!!

737 Jockey 19th Feb 2014 19:45

Recently, the company took the time to explain how they work out base requirements and how they manage the transfer requests etc. A very impressive piece of work and transparent communication, in my opinion.

I do believe that (subject to operational requirements) they try to place pilots in their base of choice. Within a year of joining, the majority of my conversion course are now in, or will shortly be in their base of choice. The biggest issue at the moment, is the lack of core positions, and therefore Scandi bases for the Scandi guys & girls. It is my hope that, with permanent employment this year, there might be some way of accommodating more Scandi pilots into the 'core' bases.

:ok:

Sorry guys, a bit off topic. What's the best way from OSL airport to Fornebu trainingcenter?
Thanks

go around flaps15 20th Feb 2014 20:52

Flytoget train to Lysaker station. Then a bus ride that stops right outside on No 31 or a 20 minute walk. Norwegian head office is right across the road from SAS and the Radisson Blue is just a 3 minute walk. The Telenor arena will be clearly visible from both head offices.

captplaystation 21st Feb 2014 00:39

Or if you are a skinflint take the local train from OSL to Lysaker & save a few bucks (Flytoget is NOT cheap ) if you have a little extra time available.

sellect 21st Feb 2014 13:26

We were picked up from the airport by norwegian and driven to our hotel in Fornebu

mompi 21st Feb 2014 13:27

thanks guys

You are only picked up if you are attending an OCC and therefore have already been accepted. If you are attending an interview you find your own way.

That's how I understand it.

captplaystation 21st Feb 2014 21:43

I wasn't picked up for my OCC . . . . grumble , mutter, gnashing of teeth :( ( & having joined after a protracted period out to grass, that's why I suggested the "cheap option" :D ) maybe enough bods screwed up the navigating part to elicit the instigation of a "conscripts" bus :ok:

directmisbi 22nd Feb 2014 07:13

I was picked up monday and driven to the airport friday for the duration of the OCC. Hired permanently after a year and now based in my fav Scandi base:ok:
I am X-Evil Empire and what a difference in T and C, atmosphere..

N747EX 6th Mar 2014 14:28

Hi all, how long after applying have all been waiting lately? I applied about a month ago

EdnaClouds 6th Mar 2014 14:57

I think they are just re-reviewing the numbers at the moment temporarily, as well as a bit of a shuffle around within the recruitment dept.

I applied over a year ago and still waiting :)

jeehaa 6th Mar 2014 23:08

Heard from just selected F/o that selections will decrease in the coming months
