No but sounds like you are....digging through my history from a year ago...congrats!

That comment was written at a time when had I got in, I'd have gone onto their shorthaul fleet. Times have changed now, and as I kind of implied just then, I'd be tempted to go to them on their longhaul fleet (this wasn't an option when I was initially rejected) - timing for me right now I wouldn't want shorthaul BA. The logic would be if offered longhaul in the future, I'd be able to commute from USA.

Thanks for answering my question anyway SR - someone needs to get a life! :ugh:

From what I've gathered from other posts and a dedicated BA roster & lifestyle thread, you would probably not be able to commute on a Junior LH roster from the USA (Junion Trash I think is the saying?), not until you get enough seniority, as far as I understand. Also, it seems that the 744 is a fairly senior fleet and any SH unfrozen bods would join the fleet ahead of you in seniority (hence they get to pick trips while you still don't).
Finally, with SH vs LH, in 2008 prior to the recruitment freeze several LH DEPs were offered SH instead. It *could* happen again I guess, but would you join? BA is about seniority not about which fleet you join. Again, this is how I understand it. I of course stand to be corrected by anyone with insider knowledge. HTH.

Thanks for the reply. Lots of people in the pool now are being offered 74 direct which is why I have the logic. I'm aware of the seniority in BA and that it's probably impossible to commute for a good while after joining, but thanks for the reply.

Spot on. All about the magic SENIORITY! It has been said many times on here but take what is offered and worry about your dream fleet once in.

It is all a matter of flexibility. If you can make it work for the initial freeze on type (5 yrs, even if rated) you can bid for what you want later to create your perfect lifestyle. The lifestyle is not a given anywhere but once in you have the potential to make it what you want here.

Give you a clue I am on SH and this month have 9 days off in a row. Just Days off, not leave or stby or available! Ok may not be the norm but gives you an idea.

Good luck all.

Hi there,

Please please please please could anyone tell me if the BA interview will involve tech Q's or just tell me about... Q's? I'm hearing all sorts back and I'm just wondering what to expect so I can swot up I'd love to hear from anyone who's recently been called in the past month...

Jumbo2 1st Aug 2011 21:21

The feedback I got, from guys who recently went for the interview, is its still competency based. The questions are still the same as the questions in the first post of this topic.

spaceman18 1st Aug 2011 22:49

No tech questions. End of.

theearl 2nd Aug 2011 07:39

"it's probably impossible to commute for a good while after joining",....

completely possible and done by many.

Alot of the comments re seniority here, though true, are being made by senior guys who....have done their time....but are a bit out of tune when it comes to being at the bottom of the 400 list. You would be surprised where a intuative FO can get and still enjoy some parts of the weekend off.

Concentrate on getting the offer....

Apologies, I'm sure this has been covered, but the thread is becoming a mighty tome...

To confirm, does the "shaky cross" in the capacity test work in reverse sense to a Flight Director? (ie you push the shaky cross over the central dot).

no sponsor 2nd Aug 2011 11:30

Been some time since I did the test, but I think it works like the following: the horizontal line acts like the horizon, so if you push the stick, the horizontal line moves up, just as the horizon would in a real aircraft. Left or right input will give you left or right, i.e. it is not reversed. I hope that makes sense!

You do get a practice one before the assessed one.

I have no idea what they look for. I did the test, and did alright (it gives you your scores) but someone said they got 80% of the shapes and colours wrong, but they still got a sim test.

As for the questions in the interview. This thread is good for practice, but I only got maybe 2 of the exact questions here. The rest were all re-worded. It would be worthwhile to concentrate on your specific examples of teamwork, leadership, over-coming adversity and so on, rather than answers to the specific questions.

Holdpool

Any news?? I see from previous posts that there are some hold poolers who have been waiting for around 4 months with no word of a start date yet. I've only been in for a month and a half but any news from the inside would be greatly appreciated. I've heard that bidding has recently closed so does that mean that BA are possibly waiting to see what happens with regards to the internal movements before they take from the pool again? Apologies if what I have heard is not quite accurate - could anyone confirm?

Good luck to all about to go through the selection :ok:

Kempus 2nd Aug 2011 17:00

Mike501,

Pretty much answered all your questions yourself. Expect phone calls from the end of September for courses from January 2012.

mike501 2nd Aug 2011 19:00

Thanks for the reply Kempus. Good to have my thoughts confirmed.

For gods sake, I just noticed two spelling errors in my application. Are they going to bin me because of it? I threw it in the spellchecker but for some reason didn't catch those.

Was in such a rush to fill out the application that I shot myself in the foot. Damn! Not heard anything yet though.

5Papa 3rd Aug 2011 09:52

Ten days after applying I received the 'no, thanks' today. Kind of automated message. That's a shame :(

embraerFObmi 3rd Aug 2011 14:03

Ten days after my application, received a thanks but no thanks today. What do these guys REALLY want eh?? Guess its off to flydubai then....!

4000 Hours Total
3700 Jet (emb 145)
600 Command hours

VJW 3rd Aug 2011 14:30

Are they looking for hrs on type (secretly)?

Has anyone been called for an interview without a Boeing or Airbus rating with 500 hrs on either?

I know some lads being called recently all with just over 500 hrs on 737's.....

emb-145 3rd Aug 2011 14:39

Called for assessment in a couple of weeks, 3000 hrs total, mostly on Q400. Airbus TR not essential it would seem!

VJW 3rd Aug 2011 14:46

Good to hear that! Were you in holding pool before?

gatbusdriver 3rd Aug 2011 19:40

Look folks, it is not about hours, type, or nationality.

Do you meet the requirements? If so big tick.

Can you fill out the application form (primarily 4 main questions)? If so, bingo, invitation to assessment.

It really is that straight forward.
