Applied the middle of last week and got a 'NO' today.

2200 TT
2000 737

I checked the spelling - looked good.

Not sure why,no feedback provided due to 'high volume' of applications.

Can apply again after a period of 6 months

d105 26th Jul 2011 16:16

Like they say. There's a huge number of applications. Also, not being a UK citizen probably doesn't help.

I've decided not to dwell on it. I gave it a fair shot, arguably just that isn't good enough, and didn't make it. So be it :)

Splashndash 26th Jul 2011 17:38

Thanks guys, it looks like they're getting through them, so I'll await patiently.

sharpclassic 26th Jul 2011 21:21

Sorry to hear you didn't make it but not being a UK citizen definitely was not the reason that you didn't get it. Loads of non UK citizens in BA, both from previous recruitment campaigns and this one.

Getting into BA isn't about how many hours you've got, it's about being the right type of person who fits their mould of the 'model British Airways pilot'.

Hence why the 4 short essay questions in the stage 1 application are so important.

Got the invite yesterday....interview soon. 4000 TT, mix of turboprop, jet and command.

Good luck to all!

master_warning 26th Jul 2011 21:31

Nice one tomcs! Well done! Out of interest (I'm trying to keep positive that I'll get a yes, rather than a no!) how long roughly till your interview? Just wanting to get an idea of how much prep time there is...

tomcs 26th Jul 2011 21:34

It's about 3 weeks from now! It took them 6 days to reply to my application!

master_warning 26th Jul 2011 21:43

Cool, cheers! Best of luck! :)

Congratulations to all that have assessment dates! Sorry to those that haven't

Applied last Wednesday, still nothing, for the moment I'm taking that as no news is good news.

I understand those that got a no, can reapply in 6 months.... I am curious as to what time scale you can reapply if you get a yes... but don't pass the selection?

flyer19832007 27th Jul 2011 01:27

Ps anyone have good examples of the verbal and numerical bits? Is it intermediate or advanced stuff?

Fiesler02 27th Jul 2011 08:07

Flyer,
Take a look on the SHL and assesmentday websites, you will find many examples, but I think they are really difficult without the use of the calculator.
For those ones who have been already through this, can you tell us if at least they let you use a pen and a piece of paper during the test?
Are the test hard as the ones giving you on the assesmentday site?
Thanks

Allocate_on_Arrival 27th Jul 2011 09:05

VR + NR

For verbal reasoning: Examples on SHL website are quite easy in comparison. The examples of VR on assesmentday are a pretty good representation of BA.

As for numerical reasoning, BA use a slightly different style of question to that available from assesmentday - BA will forward you some examples shortly.

If you can't wait, there are various examples given earlier in this thread e.g. 130cm piece of wood, 3 equal parts, exclude 2mm for saw cuts. It's multiple choice, the key is working quickly, if it is going to take too long to answer, move on.

And yes, plenty of spare paper for working.

Air of Despair 27th Jul 2011 10:58

The assessment day verbal reasoning tests are pretty representative of those you will face on the day but by no means the same. I personally feel that the test passages are slightly shorter but, sadly, no less ambiguous. More complex passages are loaded at the front of the book so if it looks like a ridiculously complicated passage then move on, as time is tight, and return to it if you can.

The maths test is simple enough. It doesn't matter how you dress it up in the end all maths boils down to addition, subtraction, multiplication or division. Make sure you can do those and you can't go far wrong. Aplusmath.com gives you online work sheets of varying difficulty. Select a 30 question worksheet and set yourself a time limit. The key is working accurately and fast and the only way to do that is practice!

Good luck.

For those of you who have just had an invitation to the first day of selection, well done!

Out of interest, what dates, if any, have you been offered?

binsleepen 27th Jul 2011 11:21

bigdaviet,

Last Wed-Thurs the dates offered were 8-11 Aug, with 6 am slots and 6 pm slots.

Regards

bigdaviet 27th Jul 2011 14:04

Thanks binsleepn.

Just one more question, Is it a phone call or email? Just want to be ready if its the former.

Fiesler02 27th Jul 2011 14:36

AoA and AoD, thank you for your replies.

I was practicing the SHL NR tests and I have got really scared thinking to do it without a calculator, that's all.
I guess if tests will be closer to the examples mentioned over the thread should it be easier...but still tough.
Cheers.

Just got the invitation to assessment having applied last Sunday. I'm 2700 TT with a mixture of African stuff, Q400, Embraer 195 and a hint of gin.

Best of luck to everyone still waiting. Now the nerves have kicked in even more.

GADriver 27th Jul 2011 16:25
