Yep a real shame. 6 years ago they were the only airline recruiting during Covid and helped a lot of guys and girls, mainly Virgin and Air Tanker keep the mortgage ticking over rather than driving for Tesco for 60 hours a week to cover half their mortgage. A lot of great people there who will need our collective support right now

Sorry to split hairs, but you'll find Lauda hired around 100 airbus pilots for STN ops at the same time as EC

it’s in the local Bournemouth paper ( Daily Echo). Plus there is a note at the bottom of the European Cargo website.

And about half of them (The Brits anyway) resigned within the year due to the disgraceful employment practices of the agency that hired them and the bully boys in the training department, but we digress...

With European Cargo, I guess the flying became unaffordable given lack of fuel hedging and/or fuel not paid for by the client?

I think one of the problems was the aircraft configuration. Loading stuff through passenger doors is time consuming and restricts what you can carry.

I suppose we will now see the aircraft boxed in with a bunch of vehicles before they are flown out or scrapped at BOH. The A340 was a great looking machine, shame to see the numbers dwindling. As for the staff, most of us have suffered redundancies at one point or another. The jobs market is pretty buoyant and I'm sure they will get picked up quickly.

Being one of those Brits who joined and resigned, I agree to a degree. Either way, it gave some of us employment and we mainly left because we were all experienced crew who knew where we wanted to go next, rather than necessarily "bully boys in the training department" - I never came across any.

It should've been quite obvious to anyone that once the a return of a full long-haul network of airlines flying internationally returned, putting cargo into the belly of a BA 777 etc would've been cheaper than having to fly an A340 and the finances behind operating a 340 in competition with the LH carriers and DHL was probably quite tough.

Cheers mate. Sad to hear another airline busted in such a short timeframe.
