With European Cargo, I guess the flying became unaffordable given lack of fuel hedging and/or fuel not paid for by the client?
Being one of those Brits who joined and resigned, I agree to a degree. Either way, it gave some of us employment and we mainly left because we were all experienced crew who knew where we wanted to go next, rather than necessarily "bully boys in the training department" - I never came across any.
It should've been quite obvious to anyone that once the a return of a full long-haul network of airlines flying internationally returned, putting cargo into the belly of a BA 777 etc would've been cheaper than having to fly an A340 and the finances behind operating a 340 in competition with the LH carriers and DHL was probably quite tough.
