Thank you WANBLI.

Just to confirm: during the OWT, are the digits and pointers arranged the same way as during the CBT?

Meaning that number of visible digits are the same, and that the pointer never points towards an already displayed digit?

Only difference is slightly different shapes and sizes of the clocks?

Thanks.

I see. Not sure I understand the "no idea" button though. Is it not advantageous to just guess? Or are you penalized for incorrect answers more than just pressing the "no idea" button?

SIM

Just one thing for the guys who are preparing for the SIM.

I didn't do any training in 737 SIM before the test, just practiced with FS. The reason why I didn't pass, was the Decision Making. I flew very rigorous and they told me that flying was not a problem for me, the problem was the decision making!

Just my 2cents!

I attended the assessment on Friday (21/1) and received news today that I've passed. Don't have too much to add to the tests, most of what's written earlier is correct.

My results before going: Avarage last 5 runs (top result)

ENS: 92 (only did once)
KRN: 84 (92)
OWT: 84 (91)
RMS: 36/6,93 (40/7,68)
ROT: 98 (100)
SKT: 98 (99)
VLR: 99 (100)
VMC: 84 (86)

Didn't do anything else than the CBT:s from the DLR.

I think that I scored less on KRN and OWT at the assessment, but appearently not so bad as to not pass.

Good luck to everyone else.

Hi there,

Just got my news yesterday - I have passed and as well a few tips from me:

First of all I did not have such terrific results in my CBT as other guys did and I can say that it does help to practice double what you think sufficient. In contrary to what the instructions say, practicing the same CBT module over and over again (many times a day) really does slowly improve your results (especially with things like OWT, KRN etc)

OWT: Practice over and over again at level 1 so that you can tell the digit in question by seeing the opposite, adjacent or 90 degrees digit. Draw yourself a digits circle to study the opposites (i.e. 1 is opposite to 5, 2 to 6, 3 to 7, 4 to 8) After a while it will be enough for you to see the instrument and you'll "know" the missing digit instantly.

KRN: Do practice the tasks acoustically. I found the Sky Test software really good for that. Do practice at level 3, because that is more or less the realistic speed - the math is not that hard but the time is very limited during the test.

For KRN you will get only 10 problems to solve visually (like in the CBT) and 10 problems to solve acoustically. Also do memorize the cubes of 1...10 (i.e. 1 8 27 64 125 216 343 512 729 1000) - you'll have at least 2 problems like that and that's 10% of your score!

VLR and ROT: practice a lot at level 1 and 2 until you are able to do it with 100% accuracy. Build up the speed only after that.

VMC: do practice but expect totally different figures during the test. If you practice too much you'll get used to the ones of CBT and might not be ready for the surprise

SKT: quite straightforward but learn to work as fast as you can (this is what graded at the test)

RMS: it works to group the digits in triples but do not make the mistake I was making in the beginning - trying to repeat them to yourself - you'll do more damage by distracting yourself than good

All in all I think the personality, CRM and written questions you have to give to DLR play important role as well.

And did I mention that you should practice the CBT A LOT?

Good luck!

MIK

Oh and a special note regarding MIK:

Although I passed the MIK test, if I had to do that over again I would have practiced it using the Sky Test MIK and Extreme™ 3D Pro joystick from Logitech (that's what they use in DLR).

I must say that while Sky Test is not a must to pass DLR I never regretted purchasing this program three years ago:

Their support was excellent to re-activate my license and the acoustic KRN and MIK are quite helpful. On top of that - if you ever go for another interview such as Interpersonal, this will help you too.

Skipping Classes

Hi Skipping Classes,

Thank you very much for your highly detailed and interesting participation in this forum. Your comments and advices will definitely be of a great help for those who are still in the training phase for the first stage of the DLR.

For my part, I will take the DLR on Friday ! The D-Day is getting really closer now !

I wish you the best for the sim.

Cheers

Hi all,

Thanks to all who have contributed to a really informative thread for DLR stage one, well done

Just wondering if it's required of a candidate to bring logbook and flight crew licence along to the DLR centre in Hamburg?

Thanks.

Thanks to everyone for contributing, the information seems really really helpful.

Skipping Classes:

May I ask how you would configure the acoustical KRN on skytest for it to resemble the DLR test?

Thanks in advance!

Aquafina1

It is required but they will not ask for it Go figure!

minimumunstuck

Just default configuration with acoustic and numbers up to 5000 or so will be sufficient. Give yourself plenty of time first after that reduce the answers time to 15 - 10 seconds.

Just start real slow and accurate and reduce the answer time until you feel that you pushed yourself up to the wall

Last chance for LHI (multi million losses)?

Dlr Tests / First Part

Hello guys,

I have just come back home from Hamburg for the first DLR tests and would like now to share my experience with you if it can be of help.

My Hotel: Motel One, all new and good quality hotel. Impossible to have dinner but you may go at the Ibis restaurant that is at 20 meters from Motel One.
The DLR center is at about 10 to 15 minutes walk on the right from the hotels. Ibis put a passenger coach at your disposal to go. Ask at the reception desk.
The DLR personnel: nice people, very pleasant, relaxed atmosphere. Three people met us early in the morning and we then spent our day with one of them.
Layout of the testing day:

>30 minutes introduction followed by different series of DLR Tests arranged in about one-hour blocks. 10 minutes' break after each one-hour block.
>We were about 35 candidates.
>The screens are of high quality and are highly sensitive to fingers. So, it is not necessary to beat them violently ! (some guys were a bit violent with their screen sometimes)

DLR Tests

(comparison with the Training Software)

ENS: same kind as the one in the training software
VLR: same presentation. Black line in a 10x10 cms box. 25 items
KRN: 10 visual and 10 acoustic. Time is variable depending on the difficulty of the task. Easier calculation but terribly difficult to concentrate for the acoustical exercises because, in my case, I was hearing all instructions coming from my neighbours’ headsets at the same time in addition to mine!!! I reported the problem to the instructor who confirmed me that they are well aware of this problem. Not good for me ! My results will be much lower than those I was used to achieve !
Personality questionnaire: 239 questions in something like 45 minutes. You just have to reply YES or NO to the statements displayed on your screen. Some questions would deserve discussion but of course it is not possible to do so. I would have preferred to be offered the possibility to choose how much I agree or disagree with the statements with the help of a 1 to 5 scale for example.
OWT: Clocks are a bit bigger. Same presentation. Sensibly the speed of

level 3.
SKT: Same presentation except that the “same dots” rule is replaced by a “same number of points” rule. Same principle with the three buttons.
Hearing your nervous colleagues beating their screens with their fingers is quite disturbing at the beginning.

No time limit per exercise. You have to work as fast and as correctly as possible up to the end of the total time. Sensibly the same number of runs as in

Level 3.

RMS: same presentation and speed as in Level 2. Exactly the same voice. No problem for me in this test regarding the headsets' problems as described above.
Aviation knowledge: same questions than those on the forum.
VMC: Some shapes are identical to those in the Training Software, but many are new, shapes are fairly complex and relatively similar and as a result are difficult to keep in your working memory. Begin with “2 Back”, then progressively increase up to “5 Back”. Same speed as level 3. More difficult!!!
ROT: exactly the same voice. Speed starts really slow (Level 1) and then increase a first time to about Level 2 and then a third time to somewhere between Level 2 and 3.
The correct cube have then to be chosen among six possibilities displayed in two rows of three cubes (in that, the display is quite different but doesn’t cause you any trouble except that you have to find where the cube you want is on the screen.)
Command orders of all other candidates emanating from their headsets will resonate in your ears. Quite disturbing if not perfectly concentrated. Not a major concern for me.
CRM questionnaire: something like 95 questions in 39 minutes. You have to reply by choosing how much you agree or disagree with the statement or to decide how much the statement is applicable to you. Other candidate and I found that these questions were not perfectly suited for us because they could be understood in different ways. Some questions are notably concerning your relations with your airline and colleagues and then some are about the ideal airline you would like to work for.
It is nonetheless not a problem to treat them.
MIC: I do recommend you buying the SKYTEST Training Software as the “simulator” at the DLR is very similar to the one in SKYTEST, except for the speed/pitch relationship that is not as reactive with the DLR MIC.
For increasing or decreasing the throttle, in the DLR test, you will have to press the appropriate button several times up to reach the desired speed. Holding your finger on a button will not make the throttle move more than once.
The MIC is the last one of the day. About 45 minutes training followed by a 10 minutes aptitude test.

Lunch break: one hour. Several possibilities in the close vicinity, such as Asian food, supermarket, sandwiches...
On the whole, pleasant day, pleasant people to meet !

Results will follow within the next 2 weeks.

Keep up the good work....

Cheers

Hi rasfcivil,

With regard to the "radiotelephony certificate", after having searched the Internet, I have finally selected the AZF that seems to correspond to ICAO / JAR-FCL 1.028, ie > english radiocommunications, VFR and IFR, no restrictions in terms of geographic location

I nonetheless precised that it is just an equivalence with my qualifications

Cheers
