These years with low recruitment rates will see a lot of SFOs reach the required hours for command well before command positions are available, so hopefully command positions will be taken up internally.

FD3S,
I'm sorry if my post seemed unsympathetic or malicious. We currently have 140 FOs in the command pool. This number will only grow over the winter as first officers undergo the command assessment sims that were cancelled over the summer to keep the crews on-line for the peak season.
It was wrong of Ezy to offer you DEC when we have enough talent within the company to fill command positions. As a consequence, you have made decisions with the knowledge that a DEC position was available, hence joining XL.
Hope you get a job soon, - even join Ezy in the RHS and go through the Command selection process and join the pool of talent that we already possess.
Sorry, but I think we need to look after our current employees first and it is unfair to deny them the career progress that many have paid for and stayed for!

I entered the DEC hold pool after FD3S. Some months ago I did just as you suggested regarding an FO's position which I would happily have accepted with no gripes. I received a (brief) reply that started "regretfully" - I'll leave you to guess the rest. Any pointers as to why this is the case?

There will be no upgrades for the 140+ SFO:s that are waiting for a cmd course for a long time; ezy training dept has agreed with CTC to have some instructors flying online as captains. From the beginning it was said just for the last part of the summer, then just spetember but it has been prolonged and it seems they are staying for the winter.
It is said this is because CTC doesnt have much going on right now so this is to keep CTC busy. And it costs ezy lots of money every day.
Now there are a few DEC hired by ezy, but on contracts via CTC as organisation. Its all a big circus.
The company has once again put their own pilots down; they prefere employing DEC from "friendly" organisations instead of promoting internal pilots that have been put through the long and tough selection process. This is of course good for the DECs; not having to go through this process- its hard. Really hard.
Fingers crossed that this stops soon.

Someday Easyjet will require DEC's again. That'll be around the time when the terms and conditions have been degraded to a level that makes Ryanair look good. I think that'll take a while though.
Viking101 you are incorrect. Read your BALPA newsletter

Flying Clara... oh my oh my... Please stay away from this site ok?
orangetree, no I am not incorrect. I have talked to BALPA about this for long and they have achieved... nothing , zip, zero, nada. They are not interested in this matter. And yes, I have read the newsletter. Unfortunatly.
Why does ezy have to recruit DEC´s when there are so many to recruit internally? Some of the DEC´s the company has employed has not been up to standard at all thus much better promoting people who has experience in flying for ezy and 737/319 hours too.
DEC´s are a last resort to aquire enough crew, not to piss off its own pilots.

Mercenary Pilot- excellent picture

grow up. I know you are new in the business but likewise, just because you have 10.000hrs + you can still be a crap captain, right? And believe me, there are a few "old and experienced" around that really should not sit in the LHS.
I guess you are only doing your TR still, but once you are out on the line flying with LC, you will see for yourself.
For me anyway I do already have experience in the LHS so its not new to me. But why this assumption of yours?
Would you care to explain how you will ever be able to get a LHS if your company keeps employing DEC´s? This is of course, if you pass all the assessments and seen as mature. I would say you have some more years before that happens.
End of this topic. Over and out.

Viking, grow up. You have LHS experience yet you somehow cannot comprehend the scenario behind the temporary CTC captains. Looks pretty simple to me..company cock up summer figures as usual, try to pull a quick fix, union catches on, company agree to stop. Do you really think they would suddenly have laid on command courses instead just to keep you happy and in mid summer, leaving them short of FO's? I'd sharpen up your thinking before any command course or you will get burned

Providing that there are no catastrophic aviational/economical meltdowns, I don’t see how easyjet could not hire DEC in the future with 120 Airbus on order. Even with 140 First Officers shortlisted for command (bearing in mind 20% or so will probably fail the command course) they are going to need a colossal amount of crew in years to come. Just do the maths.

Hear Hear, stop clogging what was once a useful thread with all these pointless tit-for-tat rants.
And stop rising to Clara's bait, just ignore its posts.

Fastidious,
Don't forget as time goes by more people will be ready for command. Furthermore don't forget all Boeings will in time be replaced by Airbus. That's about 35 Airbusses being used only to replace another A/C type = No expansion.
Yes I'm sure DEC will come back to EZY, not many- and not for a long time.
