Unlike Ryanair, easyJet can defer the Airbus orders to a certain degree. They have chosen not to do this at the moment but what they are doing is replacing the 737 with the Airbus rather than supplementing them. Sadly this means a growth for 2009 of just a few %.
However AH is still predicting a fleet of 200+ aircraft in 2011. The money is there to pay for them and the first of about 20 EZY spec A-320's arrives in Feb 2009.

As a follow up to last week’s article on Command promotions I thought it relevant to update you all with
regard to pilot recruitment.
During the last twelve months, we have experienced un-apparelled amounts of interest in joining easyJet
and our application management system has probably never been busier. Our ability to attract the very
best candidates not only enabled us to meet all our recruitment requirements for 2008 in record time but
has also put us in a very strong position for 2009.
However pilot recruitment has slowed considerably in recent months and it is the applications that we are
currently holding that will become the focus of our activity against any requirements for next year. At
present though we are not at this time proposing to fill any new pilot vacancy in preparation for Summer
2009 with a permanent contract of employment.
In light of this, we are suspending our Pilot and Cabin Crew “Recommend a Friend” Schemes until further
notice. Some of you will have recommended friends currently within their probation period and we remain
committed to any reward due for these. Any recommendations made for pilots employed after 1st
January 2009 will however no longer be valid.
The Recommend a Friend scheme has always proved highly successful and it is our intention that when
we recommence active recruitment it becomes directly linked to a specific recruitment campaign activity,
with a finite validation period. This will enable us to bring about efficiencies in administration and improve
our response rates, as well as ensure we are inviting recommendations where we really need them.
We would like to thank all of you who have participated in the past and look forward to inviting further
recommendations when appropriate to do so. Please keep an eye on easyJet Careers for
details of our recruitment activity and “inside jobs” to view any future recommendation opportunities.

I think you might find some of us believe that there is something that can be done to stop our T&C's "falling down".
The problem is that while some people are willing to pay to work those of us interested in protecting our future terms and conditions are fighting an uphill battle.

I paid for it. In every sense of the word young lady.
And by the time I sat in a jet I had over 3000 hours and didn't know it all.
If you really want to start that debate you better come to the table with more than Daddy's bank statements to proove how much this has cost you.

I have been training ATP cadets in Amsterdam. I can confirm that none of the cadets is in the ezy holdingpool.

Interestingly enough, I have heard straight from the horse's mouth in the last couple of days that, although the ATP scheme is over, easyJet intend to do some similar types of activities in the future. They are looking for 'different' organisations to work with but are attracted in principle to these 'pay for flying' schemes. I was very surprised, given their recent experiences, but there you have it!

If easyJet has spare training-capacity then it might be an idea to sell this to other airlines. There are plenty of airines looking for instructors in the ME and FE. I guess they already tried this with Etihad. Surely this must be a better way of making money than setting up/having to endure another pay-to-fly scheme.

Virgin Atlantic Concessions Anyone?
Just a little off-thread, I know.
Are there any easyFolks fancy 12 months worth of VS staff travel concessions in exchange for the same at easyJet?
You'd get up to 3 return flights anywhere on our network at "tax only", normally around 60 quid, service charge tickets at around 120 and confirmed Mates Plus fares, around 200.

EZY "staff travel" is a scam. Mostly the tickets is released for staff to a price 2-3£ lower than for normal pax. It is worth absolutely nothing these days.
Then again, sometimes they DO give some cheap ones to staff, but then we have people like YOU who takes them from the rest of us because of this type of deals
