Hi all,

I'm really sorry to hear about those of you who have had their sims cancelled, they all seem to be in Dec, and I am waiting now to hear the bad news myself. My sim is booked for the middle of Nov. Has anyone else with a Nov sim heard anything either way.

All the best to all

We have tonight, been informed of further flying program reductions. Three fleets now with 'surplus' pilots. The fleets affected are: B747-400 (P1 and P2) B737 LGW (P1 and P2) and B757 (P1 only so far). New internal bidding process opening tomorrow (today?), to 'shunt' the excess people to Airbus, and B777!

It's not looking pretty, and it's not good news for anyone!

I suspect BA may very shortly have an overall surplus of Pilots.......bad times indeed for everyone.

Oh well, at least there's Christmas to look forward to! Anyone out there know what the story is if you've had your sim check, not heard anything back yet and it's been near-on two weeks?!?!?!

I'm afraid I think the result is fairly academic. The way things are going BA is unlikely to be recruiting anyone in the next 12 months......

Look on the bright side though, OpenSkies is expanding......

Unfortuantly we are now in suplus on numerous fleets to the point where our annual fleet bid has been postponed for 2 weeks to figure out pilot requirements for next year. Apparently sim checks are now being cancelled with rumours that anyone currently under training or about to start training on the 747, 757, 737 will be redirected onto the Airbus or 777. No new hires are going to Longhaul anymore with only 8 SSP's required between now and next April. All very doom and gloom, even talk of unpaid leave, furloughes, redundancy etc.....

AH, unpaid leave is on the cards sure - but when you mention redundancies are you referring to potential management job losses over at waterworld or are you suggesting regular line pilots' positions???!!! Please clarify.

To add some extra info and consolation, my Cathay Pacific assesment has been cancelled also. It is not limited to Europe.

I have two friends in the BA hold pool, we debated whether or not they will be called and concluded... No.

Comisers' to those who passed.

Apologies for the thread drift.

As I cannot access the dedicated British Airways forum, this seems to be the only active thread where BA personnel might be lurking.
This young lady wants to make contact with BA's first female pilot to present her with a copy of an excellent portrait drawing that she has done for a school project on 'heros'.
If any of you can help put her in touch with LB (or, even better, prompt BA to respond with an invitation to this enthusiastic wannabe pilot to meet her 'hero', or maybe just to visit operations at CYQY for a day of experience) please read this thread:-
http://www.pprune.org/jet-blast/344300-my-hero.html

Thank-you folks - that's all - as you were, carry on . . .

Latest DEP selection day

At the last DEP selection day held two weeks ago the wannabees were told during the cosy fireside chat / sandwich break that BA are not recruiting...one guy had come from Italy, another from France...nice of them to let them know beforehand...not before the BA rep had told them how much he was being paid and what a great life he has...good people skills eh?

It is very easy right now for the rumour control room to go in to meltdown.

Does anybody know anything for sure, it was recently suggested that the recrutiment freeze was luckily made just in time to prevent a surplus for next years programme. With 3 777's coming now early next year, and thefact that earlier this year 240 pilots were needed (of which less than half have been contracted) surely things cant be tight enough to suggest redundancy and unpaid leave.....or perhaps I have missed something :hmm

And yes....before some smart arse comes up with it I do appreciate the economy is £@$£"d!

Situation not great.

- Recruitment frozen
- DEP hold pool filling up to ~100 and being closed
- SSPs being turned away (even after JOC), no more selection
- inside BA, surplus of pilots on some fleets & unpaid winter leave being offered

Yes, it has been a bit confusing, what with the full page adds in Flight for pilots earlier this year. I guess, best just wait and sit out the storm. Come back in 2009/10...

Also just heard that the latest intake of DEP's who were expecting 747 courses have been told in the induction week that they are likely to be changed to other fleets. Although I guess this makes sense as why train new pilots on a fleet where established flight crew are being forced off. Unpaid leave is certainly a fact with dates being offered now to flight crew. Redundancies have NOT been officially mentioned and are unlikely. The next intake of SSP's have also now been told they won't be joining and are instead being placed into the hold pool.

Am afraid not quite true....all the latest group have heard is the rumour mill.....nothing official. Saying that like you say it doesnt make a lot of sense putting new pilots on a shrinking fleet.

They should find out Monday which fleet they are destined for....

Sim Prep

Hi Guys

I have a some sim prep time arranged with a Sussex based company and was interested to see if anybody was interested in sharing this booking? If so please PM me.

Times are grim, but I am assured that if a Sim Date was allocated, these will not be cancelled. One still has to give it your best shot .. only the holding pool available of course.

got the phone call today letting me know I'm in the hold pool. I'm fully aware that this probably means nothing and I will be booted out in 10 months time but thanks again to everyone that has contributed to this thread. Even if a job does not materialize, the experience was very useful and nice to know I could get through the process, this time at least.

Thanks again

Congratulations.

Really well done. When they phoned did you manage to get any information out of them? Any snippets would be of interest.

Regards
