I was merely observing, from a small statistic champion that i have available (saw the list of day 2 of a particular week in the training center, all brits, and the forum is full of UK pilots talking about how they passed.) how this recruiting campaign has been very successfull for UK ex Easy and ex Ryan rather than other groups (are there other groups?? ahah). Performance in the assessments being equal, i am sure the mentality, professional tradition and the language of a UK pilot, plus his being potentially long term committed to BA more than a non UK pilot, made it the right candidate to pass everything even without an excellent performance in SIM (the only assessable performance from the exterior observer, the sim partner).
The advertising campaign was generic, the selection campaign based upon answers to standard questions and the sim performance is based upon CRM and adaptability rather than flying skill. (hence why it is in the 744 sim).
Ironically BA is stuffed full of non UK pilots, from France, Denmark, Holland, German, America, Canada, Japan etc. etc. etc.
If you pass the stage 1 and are successful at stage 2 then you get the job, irrespective of your origins.
This 'UK' only rubbish is about at sensible as demanding to see Barak Obamas birth certificate! Waste of time.

Erm..... thread drift? There is an abundance of successful British candidates because BA is a British Airline based in Britain. THAT SAID IF YOU ARE GOOD ENOUGH, YOUR NATIONALITY IS IRRELEVANT.
Shock horror, in other news it is being reported that the majority of cleaners at Palma de Mallorca airport are...wait for it...Spanish! Guess what? Most refuellers in Krakow are...good grief...Polish!

A 737 chap myself,
has any 737 guy recently passed the SIM and offered anything, start date or a hold pool?
I am scared that by the time my sim comes (couple weeks) they ran out of 737 spots and...what happens if i pass? pass rate becomes lower or the check pilots wont mind that at all?

In all seriousness though, I can definitely echo Wirbelsturm's comments. There are LOTS of foreign nationals working on the flight deck in BA.

Out of curiosity could some of the guys on the 744 fleet share some of their rosters here. I am aware of the bidding system and blind lines for new guys but nevertheless would be very interested to see them.

Ladies and Gents,
This thread has always been a great source of info for those with an interest in potentially joining BA.
That said, recently there is a lot of posts from people just talking about sim and day 1 assessment dates, whether phone calls/emails have been receieved etc etc.
Is it possibly time to begin a seperate (although equally as useful) thread entitled something like Upcoming BA sim rides and interviews.
We've now passed 2000 posts but of late many have lacked any new info, perhaps theres nothing new to add but surely lets not dilute what's already here (its such a great source afterall) - if we dont adjust our ways it only means more background noise for future candidates to have to trawl through.

Hold Pool
I spoke to BA Recruitment today just on the off-chance of a bit of news. Apparently the plan is to still recruit directly onto type, and there are no courses planned for those of us in the pool just yet, but August/September time was mentioned as possibilities. Place in the holding pool is done by date of Sim assessment, but not sure if they have separate pools for different fleets?

I've heard some rumours that anyone currently going through the selection process/in the hold pool that has a 737/767 rating (i.e. applied during last years recruitment drive) will be headed to the Jumbo. This is due to the fact that both 737/767 fleets no-longer require more pilots and there is a struggle to get sufficient 747 rated applicants. I'm sure minimum hour restrictions would apply.

I'm 767 rated, but sadly the only information I have about the hold pool numbers is "quite a few" from the guy at Recruitment!
Very interesting about the Jumbo though. I certainly won't turn a course down, but must admit the ultra long-haul lifestyle isn't my preference!
