Basic is approx 45k plus variable pay which is typically in region of 10k pa. Total c55k. Sorry, am knackered and couldn't be arsed to access the latest payscales to give you the actual figure but the above is a fair approx. I grossed 60k in my first yr by bidding for tours to increase my variable pay. Cheers.

1. BA is a British Airline.
2. They don't need to recruit abroad, they have enough applicants at the moment.
3. Until Openlies, sorry skies, they only operate out of LHR and LGW.
4. If you don't want to travel to the UK for the interview how are you going to cope with the home/airport standby rosters?
as for the other airlines, thats up to them, I know Emirates are desperate as their T's & C's for new joining pilots are not the best.

Evening all,
I understand the requirements of over 1000hrs on aircraft over blah weight etc, unfortunately not quite there yet
however
my question is whether the 500hr on 737/a320 may also apply to the 757?
cheers in advance

Hello everyone - could anyone let me know how long one normally would expect to wait between completing/submitting the on-line application and receiving the news whether your application was successful enough to be called for an assessment?
.......its just I've been waiting about 4 weeks and haven't heard a thing....
Many thanks

Did my day 1 in Oct and sim just before Christmas, still waiting on a start date. Some of my friends have recently been called out the pool 4-8 weeks after the sim. Although the order you are called out depends on when you attended your day 1.

HadEnough,
I applied in Oct, was emailed back in Dec and invited to book a selection day. There's only so many slots for selection and I believe you can only book online. Keep checking your inbox and get in quick....role on Feb 11th.

It would seem that the 11th of Feb is a pretty important day for the calender. It is the big move for Neighbours from BBC to Five .
Good luck for the selection.
Can we now get this thread back to the brilliant thread it used to be containing hints and tips and feedback of the current selection proceedure.
All the best,
BP

Hi all,
Wonder if someone whos' perhaps attended day one at the rivers can clarify something.
I can't quite get my head round the micro pat test. The one where you are in a virtual aircraft and you have moved in varoius directions.
Is the purpose to find the airfield that you started from? Relative to where you are now?
Therefore if you're given North 10
West 20
South 20
East 10.
You need to reverse these to : West 10
North 20
East 20
South 10.
Probably thinking too much about it but if anyone can clarify be much appreciated.
Cheers, Evel.

Hi Evel the above advise is good. I solved this one by giving each direction a number and keeping track of the two numbers
For example N=-,S=+
and E=-,W=+
So for your example in N/S plain you have-10+20=+10 (ie 10NM up the screen)
In E/W plain you have +10-20=-10 (ie 10NM left on the screen)
Having said that you need a method you are happy with and just thinking about it again has made my brain hurt!
P.S. When you get NE, SW etc all bets are off!!!

Right Guys, here is how it is done...
Follow the instructions exactly. (It is far too difficult to reverse the instructions both at the speed at which you are given them, and when they start giving NE, SW etc.)
Wherever the instructions take you, reverse the position through the centre cross. It is important that you reverse correctly; i.e. if you end up in position one left, five up, that you reverse to one right, five down. (NOT one left five down.)
So, orientate your reverses through the centre cross and this way you will get the right area. If you do this you will pass. If you try the reverse as you go way, you will find it MUCH more difficult. Good Luck!

Don't want to hijack this thread but a quick response to your comment regarding poor terms for those starting at EK.
Current starting salary equates to around £36500 pa and thats what you get as no income tax here. That's probably on a par with BA figures after tax. Allowances are pretty crap but with flight pay and overnights, work on £550-600 a month. Housing is provided so no mortgage to pay. Keep a house in UK and get someone else to pay the mortgage. Provident fund requires a 5% contribution from you & Company pays another 12% in. Equities, gold, cash, the choice is yours. In dollars but hopefully that will recover in the future. Good thing is that you don't buy an annuity so the full balance can be cashed in any time after 7 years. When you die, the wife gets 100% of the balance. About £30 month covers family of four for in house medical care and excellent dentists. Schooling, private, is covered by another small monthly deduction. Company pays 90%. 42 days leave a year. J class travel for F/O,s and F for skippers. Command time currently 3-4 years and likely to stay around that as long as the 200 planes on order turn up in the next 5 years. 5 month rotating bidline means you get some nice flying for half the year even as a junior. Flights vary from a 30 minute Doha to 17 hour Houston.
The Airline is certainly going places and job security must be about the best on offer but Dubai and expat life is not for everyone. Just food for thought.
Now, back to BA DEP's!

Latest projection for this training year (April 08 to Mar 09) showing 200+ new recruits, of which roughly half are likely to be SSP so destined for 737 LGW or A320 LGW/LHR; the remainder to be DEPs, as has been mentioned already there are ALSO vacancies planned on the 744 (90) and 777 (40) with a handful of 757/767. Usual 'health warning' applies here: it is a fluid plan!
Good luck to all applying.

BYMONEK,
Thanks,
Perfectly understand the T's & C's as I have a friend who flies as a 777 Captain for Emirates on their original T's & C's.
It was he that pointed out the slow degradation of the original T's & C's. He also pointed out a few flaws with the rostering stability. Whether that has been sorted out I don't know.
The basic boils down to 'do you want to live in the desert 24/7'? Many people (my better half included) don't want to. The other factor is kids schooling, I understand Emirates will fund boarding school but, again personally, that isn't for me.
Horses for courses really. Probably a very good job for non-resident single tax exiles.
Back to the thread!!!!
Good luck to all those who go to the Hatton Cross Gliding Club

Has anyone successfully managed to get any feedback from either Day 1 at Cranebank or Day 2 on the Sim ? I'd like to reapply this year and it would be useful to know where i was going wrong. i've tried calling the recruitment hotline for some help and been told the computer says Nooooo.
