@rahulred5
I had a similar experience, but, back in the US instructing now. I was wondering whether to quit this and come down to get my license converted since the market's opening up there.
Needed to know the good books and where I could get em for all the subjects. Also, as much as I'd hate to, I'm considering to go for classes and would like to get your input on who is recommended?
I have about 500TT with 350 multi. Have my CFI, CFII and MEI.
Thanks.

To the guys who studied themselves for the DGCA exams..
Just got done with my training, i have 6 months starting january before my recency lapses.
Medical, radio license i can get done right now.
How did you guys prepare for the exams?
I have navigation notes from a frined who attended Mr Surinder's classes, for air regs i am ordering Mr Bali's vol1 and vol2 online.
What would be appropriate study material for Indian met and human factors?
Also any idea regarding the jan session? I might as well sit for it even though i am not prepared just to get an idea about the exam structure.

quick question guys
just saw the date come out for the cpl exams(2nd week of feb), now I only have my private license in hand from Canada, commercial will take another month to arrive.
What i gather from the CARS i cannot sit for the exams because I do not meet one of the following requirements:
1. The applicant should have Indian PPL; OR
2. Have completed 100 hours of ground training covering all the subjects of CPL in an
approved flying training institute for which the Chief Ground Instructor shall issue a
certificate to this effect;
The applicant shall be permitted to appear in Aviation Meteorology and Air
Regulation papers and thereafter on being successful in these exams and on
completion of a minimum of 15 hours of flying training which may include a
maximum of 5 hours of simulator training, the applicant shall be permitted to appear
in other subjects of CPL i.e. Air Navigation, Technical General and Technical
Specific on the aircraft type; OR
3. An applicant shall be permitted to appear in all papers of CPL provided he has
acquired a minimum of 25 hours of flying training experience which may include a
maximum of 5 hours of simulator training and completed 350 hours of ground training as
specified in CAR Section 7 Series ‘D’ Part I.
4. Attended the ground training classes with DGCA approved Flying/ Ground Training
Institutes or Defence Establishments on the subjects of a category of license in which the
applicant desires to appear
correct me if I am wrong.
Gotta love the complexity of the 'english language' used by the officials, keeps you entertained.

if you could please assist me.
1)so all i need to attempt is the nav+met+regs ? not the technical, correct?
2)Do you think there is enough time for me to apply assuming i send off the application in a few days via speed post
3)So now i do not need to send a copy of my private canadian license?

1. You wont be able to write CPLCG and hence would need to write CPLG
for nav + met + regs separately
2. Well it dosent hurt to send an application other than it will cost you Rs 1500 to try ( 500 each subject ) . Although remember that the last date is already up.
3. Its a good idea to send a copy of your license . The more paperwork the better
Although you wont be needing it
I cannot guaruntee that the DGCA will accept CPLG for someone who is converting their license
You can try contacting Mr. Ashutosh Vasishtha
Tel : 24653104 Ext : 308
He deals with conversion of licenses
You can call him up and ask your queries

DGCA accepts CPLG for conversion. Many of my known colleagues have done so successfully.
One can appear for MET & NAV seperately also and submit results for conversion.

It seems like DGCA are trying to get over with the Jan 2011 session in a hurry. The exam schedule was put up on their website on Monday 24th Jan (or was it Tuesday?), which is only 2 weeks prior to the exam. The list of accepted / rejected candidates is not even out yet. And there's roughly about 10 days left for the exam.
Sorry for being pedantic, but according this CAR,
According to the current exam schedule DGCA aren't following their own CARs. So does DGCA reserve the right to ignore their own regulations and do as they please? If this was happening in the US, atleast we could all sue DGCA and make some money out of their inefficiencies.
Sorry for being pedantic, but according this CAR,
8.5 List of Admitted Candidates for a particular session is displayed on the DGCA website three weeks prior to the date of examination of that session.
