SIA cadet pilots, pilots

I would like to know what are the jobs/ tasks as a pilot with SIA besides maneuvering the plane. Will you be given chance in management ? I heard my friend from SIA saying there is Managing Pilot ? What are the jobs of a managing pilot ?

I am so curious and would like to find our more about how a pilot life would be in SIA.

Hi guys, I'm a student hoping to enter into the aviation industry when I graduate..big problems facing me though. My height is below 1.65m. Is SIA very strict on this height rule or will they give some allowances?

the 1.65m requirement is a 'must' for almost all of the worldwide cadet pilot programme. there are alot of human factors issues in relations to the egronomics of the cockpit as well as the anthropy of a human being fiting in a cockpit.

I would advise you if possible to join YFC if your in a local uni. This will allow you to obtain your PPL as a CCA or ECA. Doing a private PPL is about 20k in total. Thus it is not really that worth as it is still a restricted PPL. I would suggest goin to do your self-sponsored PPL in Malaysia. This will cost about 12-14k SGD max with a unrestrict DGCA PPL. PPL cost varies due to the amount of flight time one might take to obtain proficiency.

I would like to give you some psychological support.
Just don't let you be pushed down by people telling you to give up your dream. There is an increasing number of female pilots doing very well in cockpits. And try to see things from a different point of view: There are many shining diamonds in airline business, not only SIA.
Don't get me wrong, I don't want to minimize SIA but to put some emphasize on other possibilities. Once you stepped into business you may find a lot of attractive ways to work as a pilot.
And never put your aims below the level of possibilities which you still have. Just try and apply with SIA, and once they told you you are not tall enough - well, then try the next possibility, maybe Jetstar, which is surely a quite good choice to start with. But never say "... would be even enough for me". Try the first choice at first and then step to the next one. And I am sure you will find a place to make your dream come true. It might not always be as shiny as you expected right from the beginning but you will make your way if you want.
So, finish your university degree and then go ahead!

I've researched the "height" topic because I am "not tall" too! Just about 165cm. Believe me I've seen captains from an asian airline shorter than I am. Boeing's lower limits for flying it's airplanes is 158cm. The 165cm requirement is for SIA (or any airlines that has any stipulated height minimums) only.

for cadetship in SQ thats the requirement so there is no way out but no harm trying it out after your degree. with a ppl does not mean you have an advantage over others as it is an ab intio programme. it will definetly show your passion in some way or another.

As for taking your fATPL, I would suggest you to look towards MFA or other fly schools in the region. STATA provides CASA licenses, which conversion to a CAAS license might pose certain problems for green pilots. MFA is the cheaper and better alternative at a price tag of 80 -100k depending on individual skills. STATA starts from 80kUSD. SFC starts from 140k SGD.

If your planning to join local carriers (non SQ) there are only tiger and jetstar. jetstar did hire a few green pilots and for tiger im not sure about it. Most LCC will both bond you and get you to self sponsor your type rating as well this will be able 40-60k which will be pay over your bond years. you will need to self-sponsor your fATPL before doing anything for other carriers.

as what other says, yest there are many other jobs in piloting then what you see in the local scene. FI jobs, coporate jets etc... overseas airlines, but the most important thing now will be you wanting to be a pilot. financially you must be stable prior to joining a flight school for fatpl. if your planning to loan, do consider carefully as interest for schools such as MFA is about 5%/yr in currently.

I would suggest you to self-fund a ppl in malaysia prior to determining if you really want a piloting job. get the taste of flight and see if it is your cup of tea. afther which then you move on with your decision. do try applying for SQ cadet after your graduation.

Is a PPL taken in Malaysia any less recognised than one obtained locally at Seletar?

And for SFC..doesn't mean you have $$ they will definitely accept you right? Is the selection for private candidateship very stringent at SFC? 140k is indeed a crazy amount..can buy a 3-room HDB with that kind of money.

Same question again, is a fATPL from MFA any less recognised than one from SFC? As in, will I be able to get more 'links' for jobs through a stint at SFC?

Guys I have applied for SIA Cadet Pilot Programme,Mumbai.My visual acuity metioned in my Class-2 Medical Report is "Fc 15ft" for left and right eye separately how do I convert It in degrees as we are suppose to put visual acuity in degrees in application.Or I should consult an eye doctor.
I even want to know if Astigmatism and Maddox Rod is same thing? I would really appreciate if anyone could clear my question.:)

So dont think you can easily get a job with jetstar once you finish the course....:ok:
