Great News DLWL,

First of all, congrats on making to 2nd round.
If you feel you are lacking on the technical aspect, I would suggest you can start to do some more reading on that. As for your thin blood problem, I can't provide any suggestion to help you on that.

Anyway, its good to hear some good news by the fellow forummers after a long day at work. Good Health & Good Luck!!

SGboi 26th Feb 2010 06:26

Congrats DLWL!, you're one step closer.

Now the question is, anyone here got the rejection email yet?

sga345 26th Feb 2010 09:24

Does "only successful applicants will be notified" apply to the interview as well?

DLWL 26th Feb 2010 10:34

for i/view
there will be a email to state that you are unsuccessful.
I've received it once. really sucked.

Congrats to those who got called up for first and second interview.

Will the job application status show "rejected" or something like that for candidates who did not make it?

moccajava 1st Mar 2010 11:03

im assuming dyed hair is a no-no too eh.

bogusrif 1st Mar 2010 13:57

I guess?Question. Are pilots allowed to smoke?I mean....not in the cockpit or in uniform or anything.Just in general. When you're out with friends or something.I've heard mixed comments about this.Cheers!

moccajava 3rd Mar 2010 05:16

My opinion is... if he so chooses it is fine. I've seen other airline pilots smoking in uniforms but never seen SQ ones tho... But then again, if you have medicals every 6 months... would you risk it :D

Interesting question tho... would be great to from those that smoked if there was a tip to clear medicals :D hehehe... like stop smoking for a month prior to the medicals? :}

But of course no one would publicly announce it.
The online walls have ears hah.

bogusrif 3rd Mar 2010 05:57

oh yes of course not.I'm just asking this cos my airforce friend was saying that the pilots there smoke like crazy when they land.So I was just curious.:ok:

bogusrif 3rd Mar 2010 06:03

Hey mocca j.You seem like a cool enough chap.Lets be friends.hahahaha.Any news about the interviews yet? When did you apply anyway?

moccajava 3rd Mar 2010 23:21

No I don't smoke... am I still cool? hah...

DLWL 4th Mar 2010 01:28

got asked a pageant like question.
Answer either way also wrong...

personal 1. so not convenient to sae. but...really tough...

I answered the best i could. But i cldnt read them..

i really hope for a miracle....
The agony of guessing is so damn tough...

silencer22 4th Mar 2010 02:05

if you remain calm, it shouldnt b a problem..

So you went for the technical test and everything?

or this time round is 2 interviews consecutively?

bogusrif 4th Mar 2010 04:14

mocca: no worries abt the smoking bit. I'm not one either.heh.
DLWL: Pageant question?now that's something new.Well, as long as you stayed calm man.Again, don't worry too much about it.:ok:

DLWL 5th Mar 2010 00:32

Final Parting.

Hi Guys,

I didnt manage to get through.
Thanks for all the support and encouragements. The reason i didnt get through only SIA knows, but i also have some idea. There were some personal questions about me which i found difficult to answer. Problem is I didnt know to answer directly or not. Which i guess was my downfall. Shld've faced it head on instead of trying to find a politically correct answer. Pardon me but its not something i wish to discuss.

Just some words of encouragement to you guys

1) The HR from SIA mentioned that everyweek there will be a 1st interview. so monitor the website and apply as much as u can. Remember not to say the wrong things. For the first interview be honest, sincere and show ur leadership potential with ur historical backgrd etc. From my batch, the first few ppl who got i/viewed got in, not the norm but the other guys were also quite up there. So it really depends on how much u show them u want it.

THE RESULTS FOR THE I/VIEW WILL BE RELEASE 1-7 DAYS after the first I/VIEW. So there is no second guessing there.

2) For the computer aptitude test, there is a post in this thread that is detailed in telling u guys what to do. read up but dun mind it too much really. Just keep a clear mind, rest well. It really isnt too difficult.

3) For the second interview, I must say, the CPTs do have an idea of what they want already. Some1 from my batch with flight experience and knowledge didnt get in either. I guess it really boils down to.

a)attitude
b)i/view skills
c)looking sharp- well just give them the u look reliable look (dunnoe how to describe really)
d)good analytical skills - if u dunnoe, say dunnoe. but if u are guessing, just let them know and tell them how u got to the answer.
e) it really doesn't matter too much if u got the answers wrong, they are mostly just having fun putting u in the spot and seeing how u react.
f) just be calm and confident. BUT NOT COCKY pls.

The results for the 2nd I/view will be released immediately the next day.
So no second guessing there either. Sorry i cant be more specific about the process, coz honestly, its better to go there prepared for anything, rather than try to be prepared for everything- which u cant.

P.S: FOR Medical: though i couldnt go through the process. I AM suffering from a Blood disorder Called Thalassaemia. I saw some threads about this and found out that there is a guy in SIA now on course with the same disorder. However, our Hb level is normal at 13.5 above.

So those guys with this disorder, don't be dishearted if airforce say u cant be a pilot, SIA will still take you provided u clear the I/views. =)
If your Hb level is below 13. Suggest u take folic acid supplements. IT works =)

Alright, I have been told by the HR that they usally don't take in people who failed the final round. I feel that my chances are at most 10% as the i/viewers would have recorded a bad comment on my records. So likely, there is no more chance for me. I hope what i say here can help u guys and please keep faith. Keep trying. All the best

I will continue to realise my dream in other ways.

D,
signing out.

drumx 5th Mar 2010 02:44

Sorry to hear the bad news.

Take care.

su47 5th Mar 2010 03:11

I also understand that there will be a new hurdle for you to clear - it'll be implemented shortly (though this word is rather subjective seeing how big organizations react a little slower to new initiatives). And it'll cost a pretty penny to prepare for it.

I walked the same path you guys did over 2 years ago - 1st round, psycho-motor, 2nd round, tea party, followed by medicals and the all-desirable contract offer. A little blue bird in the loop kindly informed me earlier this week that selected applicants who make it through all these will have to go for air grading on a C172. I've been led to believe that this will be prior to the contract offer although I could be wrong (the existing system is to sign a contract, get shipped off to OBS, then fly the C152 for a couple of hours).

Perhaps one of the courses studying at Seletar reading this thread might be able to shed more light.

The only feasible way I can think of to prepare for this is to invest in Flight Sim and a control column, force feedback optional. It's costly but if you're throwing all your chips on the table then now's the moment.

bogusrif 5th Mar 2010 03:23

hmm....I'm sorry to hear that DL.Keep working towards the dream man.As I'm sure all of us will. All the best in the future champ.:ok:

moccajava 5th Mar 2010 04:12

hey DLWL... hold your head up high to know you did your best... and made it thru to the 2nd round even. :ok:

my session was ok... grilled me left, right, centre bcoz im a mature applicant with few years of worklife... so those with the same criteria be ready for it haha.

funnily no questions on aviation for me... is that a bad sign?

PS:
They let you go through the C172 like as in practical hands-on before offering the contract? Wow... it gets tougher...

bogusrif 5th Mar 2010 05:18

are you serious?a 172 flight?Well that should be fun if it's really true.Thx for the heads up!Mocca don't worry about it.I heard some other applicants weren't asked aviation related questions either.Ah....to get my email for my interview....

sgcloudchaser 5th Mar 2010 08:11

how old are you, mocajava?

sgcloudchaser 5th Mar 2010 08:19

hi guys, when submitting via sia website, do you guys also put in a cover letter?

bogusrif 5th Mar 2010 11:00

I did, if it helps.

sgcloudchaser 5th Mar 2010 15:14

well, but is the cover letter necessary for cadet pilot application? as in if I didn't submit one, would I be rejected? anyone has any idea?

sga345 5th Mar 2010 15:40

@sgcloudchaser: You wouldn't be rejected RIGHT AWAY... but for formality's sake... I would suggest you put it in. At least give the interviewers something to read about you before you enter the interview room.

bogusrif 7th Mar 2010 04:58

thanks for the heads up rain.big help.:ok:

sga345 7th Mar 2010 06:30

Thanks for all the info rain84... I'm assuming your course was the last batch before SIA stopped recruitment?

moccajava 7th Mar 2010 11:44

C97 batch

Hi,

Anyone here can help me get in touch with someone from this batch? It's an old childhood friend and I saw him on the editorial page of SFC newsletter. It's dated 2005 so I would suppose he would have been flying around in SQ for nearly 4 years already :D

Any help appreciated :ok:

Nigel85 8th Mar 2010 01:43

Hi guys,
anyone of you have gotten any replies from SIA with regards to your 1st interview? I've been scheduled for my 1st interview on 12th March (applied on the 18th Feb). Will technical questions be asked during the 1st round of interview?

FYI guys, i didn't attached any cover letter.

Regards
