quirke,

I do think the purpose of school is to teach one how to learn, regardless of subjects.

Explore all options, even the poly course. When I wrote about exposure, I was referring to the course with Temasek. It is certainly a better option (and wider exposure too) than worrying about cadetship or self-paying for a commercial pilot licence now.

Honestly, (presumably the course is) 3 years is a good tradeoff to find one's career direction. Regardless, make a decision and put in your best.

... and all the best to everyone here... !

...clock all the 1500 hours to apply for FO positions instead of becoming a cadet?
Last I checked, SIA does not accept Direct Entry FO (DEFO). I haven't been following this thread, and I don't know if you are working towards flying for SIA. This is for your info only.

With 1500 hrs you are likely to find a place in the right hand seat of one of the LCCs, provided you have the type rating of the aircraft that they operate. But why 1500 hrs? Did the hiring requirements state 1500hrs? Or did you confuse yourself with the 1500hrs required to 'unfreeze' the fATPL? Good luck guys!

Anyway, Gong Xi fa xai to all ........

khai_phoenix 9th Feb 2010 15:01

Anyone got a reply from SIA for their 1st Interview? Based on what I read in this thread, normally they reply almost immediately..hmm...

hectigol 9th Feb 2010 16:39

My friend with flying experience (YFC, RSAF) got notified of interview the next day after submission as well.

happy new year everyone!

and all the best to all applicants

cheers:)

purplehearts 14th Feb 2010 08:59

What are your friend's qualifications like? Seems like SIA really prefers ex RSAF personnel. I guess your friend must have some outstanding qualifications to get cherry picked?

autobrakes3 15th Feb 2010 04:50

I think you guys are speculating too much about how SIA picks their interview candidates. Ex-RSAF trainees have an advantage over others? I dont think so. They won't get chopped if they could fly. I, for one was a choppee too.

The first interview is held on every friday of the month. And the second interview is on every wednesday. The passing rate of the interviews is low and you will be surprised how many applicants you see on your interview day. Despite the low %, the company will try to fill about 8 courses a year to send to OBS/SFC.

If you are not being called up yet, perhaps there are too many applicants to filter through. As long as you meet the bottomline requirements, you will be shortlisted.

Anyway for those who got shortlisted, all the best and study real hard. Be honest, be confident and most importantly, be humble during the interviews.

March 5th Interview [AM]

Helu,

Anyone here attending the same session?

purplehearts 15th Feb 2010 10:42

he must have some amazing school results perhaps?

G.O.S 15th Feb 2010 15:01

to Moccajava,
Do you mean 5th March for cadet pilot interview at STC?
Hmmm....

sgcloudchaser 15th Feb 2010 15:38

what is the last interview date for this round?
I have reservist for the first 2 weeks of March...

sga345 15th Feb 2010 16:20

sgcloudchaser:

We have no idea when is the last interview for this round... Unless someone can give some insight into this...

moccajava:

May I know when did you send in your application? Thanks!

autobrakes3 15th Feb 2010 16:30

there isnt a last date for this round. How do i put it? There arent any rounds to begin with. Recruitment has started again and this will be an ongoing thing throughout the year.

There would be a "1st interview" session every friday of the month and there will be a "final interview" session every wednesday.

Theres no cherry picking involved in recruitment. There are tons n tons of applicants to choose from. Whatever results you have gotten in school previously does not matter as long as you meet the minimum requirements. The interviews are all that matter in selecting the future cadet pilots. Same goes for flying experience - even if you have it, it doesnt give you any advantage.

sga345 15th Feb 2010 16:57

Wow... you seem to know the system quite well... thanks!

First interviews on Fridays and Final interviews on Wednesdays... how accurate is this info?

TinyBrain 15th Feb 2010 17:26

Yes, very accurate info given by autobrakes..

First interview usually on Friday.

2nd round starts on Tuesday to be exact, for some pyschomotor test..
Wednesday morning will be some group games and afternoon, final interview by a panel of 4 - 8 captains and hr personnel.

By Thurs, you will get to know if you should attend the medical/rejected.

K.. that's all for the clue I'm gonna feed you with ;).. if you are serious enough, and gotten the rare chance of being selected for interview. DO some homework, search and most importantly, be HONEST. Telling lies and trying to act how passion you are about aviation gets you nowhere... Remember; you are talking to someone who's flying hours are more than your msn-ing hours. :E

Last but not least: The selection + the interviews are definitely the MOST difficult process to gain you an entry.. But, do NOT slack and take things for granted when you are in Singapore Flying College. Although the chopping rate is not high as compared to RSAF.. but you will be axed if deem not suitable for this career. Good luck guys! Nice seeing so many young and enthusiastic cadet-pilot-to-be :ok:

autobrakes3 15th Feb 2010 19:17

I think they have gotten rid of the group activities for quite a few years already. Now, its just the psychomotor test on wednesday morning, followed by the final interview after lunch and tea session.

That was when i last spoke to guys from the 3rd floor.

@sga345,
haha, I know the system because i had gone through it years back. except for the group activity, everything else hasn't changed much. :ok:

vinesh22 16th Feb 2010 02:07

BUMMER...they've stopped taking in Malaysians?!

G.O.S 16th Feb 2010 03:38

@ autobarkes,
Just to clear my doubt, will there be a chance for ppl like me from SIAEC??
Still in apprentice for 2 years.

thanks!!!

moccajava 16th Feb 2010 04:54

Yes @ STC. Not too sure when I applied. I think it was in some recruit papers in January?

Things have sure changed for the application process. The last I tried was 4 years ago and it was sent either by email or snail mail. Kudos to SQ for introducing the online application. I think it will surely help the guys who need to filter the many applications.

To those who worry about educational stuff, not to worry too much. The first time I was called up, I only had a polytechnic diploma. 4 years on I have attained my Bachelor's.

Still just worried if they ask me on too many technical stuff... (different engine types, theory...) Though I could answer them best on KrisFlyer stuff hehe... FF lar :E

Erh... btw will it be a downside if you have some spare "gear"... its been awhile since I got into shape due to the deskbound and sedentary lifestyle of office work hehehe...

One more thing... any known banned activities SQ pilots supposed to stay away from? like the rumour of RSAF pilots not allowed to ride motorcycles... or engage in high risk sports (skydiving, scuba diving, promiscuous parties... just kidding)

autobrakes3 16th Feb 2010 09:38

@G.O.S

Yeah why not? I know of a few guys that were from EC before. Not sure what you mean by being an apprentice for 2 years though. You are still under a bond? You have to check with EC side if its a bond you re talking about.

@moccajava

Nope there aren't any banned activities. This is a civilian job and the company expects you to have a civilian life! You are fully responsible for your own health. I have heard of an FO breaking his leg while skiing though and the company had to send up an extra crew to fly the plane back. The bosses weren't too happy about that.
Its the cabin crew that i would encourage you to stay away from! j/k :bored:

moccajava 16th Feb 2010 09:43

autobrakes:
thanks... that's quite funny really...
u meant stay away from the stewardesses? :eek: :uhoh:

sga345 16th Feb 2010 10:00

Probably stay away from stewardesses AND stewards... lol

TinyBrain 17th Feb 2010 00:49

@autobrakes

cool stuff.. haha.. great to do away with the group stuffs.. kinda funnie to play with the lego bricks..

@G.O.S

one of my batch boys was from EC, he had no bond when he joined tho'. For those with bond, it will depends on your Co. if they want to release you. During my final interview, we had a cabin crew still under bond. He cleared second round and went for medical with us, but couldn't join us in the end as the other side didn't wanna release him.

G.O.S 17th Feb 2010 03:05

@TIny brain,
Thanks for the info.
Anyway, I do need to convince my Co. to release me. It won't be like the crew' case.
Coz i'm not yet established as Licenced A/c Eng.
Still under training...

moccajava 17th Feb 2010 11:35

Confirmation Period

Hi guys,

Just in summary... what would you say is the time span from one phase of the interview right down till signing of the contract and the official start of the training phase?

I think it would be beneficial for people to have an awareness of the short period of time they will have to adjust their daily lifestyle. (eg. serve notice period of employment, etc...)

1st interview -> 2nd interview [time elapsed?]
2nd interview -> medical [time elapsed?]
medical -> sign of contract [time elapsed?]
sign of contract -> OBS? [time elapsed?]

Are you obliged to accept all the dates that they tell you or are there any cases of deferments to begin in a later batch being considered?

Thank you.

khai_phoenix 17th Feb 2010 13:19

1st Interview

Appreciate if fellow dreamchasers who have gotten a 1st interview date to give some details as to when your interview is..and when your application was submitted? Thanks :ok:

1st Interview:
Date of Application:

@ Vinesh22 - did SIA reply you about your application?

vinesh22 18th Feb 2010 01:07

Well, they rejected it a few days after. I can't see anything else to be the problem other than my nationality.

vinesh22 18th Feb 2010 04:59

Nope, I'm a JB kid, went through all my education over here. SIA used to accept Malaysians, now i guess they only take Singaporeans and PR's. Too bad I'm not a PR, DANG!

Nigel85 18th Feb 2010 10:02

Hi guys, I've applied for SIA cadet pilot today. But I've yet to do the necessary assessment under "assessments to take", afraid my mac will screwed up my chances. What assessment are those?

Cheers,
Nigel

sga345 18th Feb 2010 13:25

@Nigel85:

Did you answer any questions after submitting your application through the online system?

Don't worry about your mac screwing up the application, I used a mac to apply for it online too.

khai_phoenix 18th Feb 2010 13:38

Heads-up Vinesh22..I'm sure more opportunities will come your way..just keep the passion burning :)

Nigel85 18th Feb 2010 15:20

What I did after submitting is that I edited on my profile and uploaded my CV. Didn't ans any questions other than those under 'my profile' tab.

sgcloudchaser 18th Feb 2010 15:46

there is 1st interview on 26th feb and 5 mar. any other dates?

vinesh22 18th Feb 2010 16:16
