just an idea but what if the reason it took off with a short time till expiry on the c of a was that it was never meant to fly any further than it did....?. It would explain why the trip was expanded...

It is only speculation but the plan seems to of been to leave the aircraft in india as long as possible so that the whole thing could of been wrapped up at this end and then simply slip the machine...
