Nothing in this message is directed to any persons living or dead called barry or autorot8.
What, even the reference to Barry!

Sorry....I see what you mean now.

Everything seems to have gone quiet again!

Whats going on? all seems to have gone quiet again. Guess everybody must be busy.Word has it that there is going to be a lecture coming up soon at Shawbury on "Autogyros, past present and future". Sounds like it should be worth listening too. Ken Wallis is going to do the past bit and the boys from GE are going to do the present and sombody is going to do the future. Sounds like a great evening. Hope to have a roving reporter there who will update this thread with any good points that come up, wait out.

As an asides, take time to read the big red writing at the bottom of the page and ponder its meaning.

ML,

I hope your 'roving reporter' is reliable and accurate.
The problem I found with mine was that he was able to come up with a story, we went to print and then the story happened.
Not really a problem in itself but a bit of a Maverick making it up as he saw the way things appeared to be going. Fortunately/Unfortunately, (whichever side of the fence you are on), it worked out.

Is this lecture an in house thing or is it organised by an outside agency, GAPAN, AOPA or the like? Can Joe civi attend?

Nice spot on the bottom of the page!

Must dash to catch the first edition............Ooooops!!

Thats all folks!

Global eagle have now shut down their web site and so it would appear that it is now all wrapped up. Appart from this thread there is nothing to show it even ever happened. Would of been nice to get some for of closing statement. Now nobody will ever know what happens and it can all be brushed under the carpet. No statement of where all the money went or anything. No thank you to all the supporters. No explanation of why money was collected for a flight that never could of happened.
I suppose we will just have to keep an eye on the press for a picture of Global eagle handing big cheques over to The Red Cross, NSPCC and Dyslexia Institute. I am sure everybody will aggree that these are very worthy causes and fully deserve the money that was donated to and raised for them. Well done lads.
Since raising money for charity was one of the reasons this expedition was allowed to go ahead, perhaps donating the royalties from the forthcoming book would be a noble way of demonstrating
the level of commitment felt and the sincerity you have in what you say and do.

Allegedly rumour has it..no one in partcular...living or dead...blah..blah..

Yes the site is still there however no news or updates, I did find this on the Army press site.
Barry is grateful to his support team and sponsors but admits that this time, Mother Nature has defeated him. But Global Eagle will be recovered to the United Kingdom and the money raised for Barry’s charities will be distributed. The team will prepare a series of presentations to schools, before winding down to go back to their normal military duties.
So it looks like
A: the money raised will go to the charities.

B: Presentations at schools ...Where When..?? I also saw that there was going to be a DVD of the trip etc on the Global Eagle purchases web page...Is that still on I wonder?

What I would like to see is members of Global Eagle coming onto this forum and putting there twopenny worth in. I know that Barry has a had a bad time of it here. I make no bones that I too had the odd niggle but lets face it he was the front man for the team, where are his backroom staff now?? Why should Barry take all the sh*t surely the problems were not only down to Barry but also down to some p*ss poor planning by his "team"
So I guess its easier to leave Barry to take all the flak deserved or not while they slither away under the door!!! Ummm sort of "backing" you would want from the team..Not!
Be men and tell it like it is...Dont hide away..

Of course I could be totally wrong, please feel free to respond and tell me so "Team"

Hi
i must admit theres a kind of very british smog over this thread...
lack of communication, rumours, mud .... the truth is elsewhere....
I also readed that the responsible for the operation was Barry's superior, so why is barry the target ? i must miss something..
Don't you think there's a kind of "we are the army, mind your own business" blackout ?
thanks

zeeoo, dont believe everything you read on here! This thread is sponsored by the 'we are anonymous, armchair critics' I believe!

(And as far as I have read, a personal disagreement was a motive for the conception and continuance of the whole thread )

Mr WG Dummy, sadly you have not grasped this thread. You are correct when you say "As far as I have read"
Read it all then you will see this was started as lightweight humor in support of Global Eagle, banter that was entertaining as well as promoting the flight.

Wg,
thanks for the advice,
yes i sort the good seed from the trash...
from an exterior point of view, i clearly see here are personnal affairs here.. like at "ok corral" if you know what i mean..
alas it's a bad movie for the gyro community that is already marginalized and doesn't need that...

Vol, our interpretations may well differ.

According to the 'expeditions' website at http://www.globaleagle.co.uk it all kicks off today from Waddington. Good luck to the team, but knowing a few of them fairly well, I wonder of their chances of actually pulling it off. I may be a great cynic, but based on personal track records it must rate high in improbables.

I was told by one member of the team that I know very well, " I've never worked so hard and I'm really stressed out ,it's taken over my life".
My first thought was, it must be a cushy number as you volounteered to do it! Which would explain a few more names in there.

I have visions of the Blackadder episode where Edmund was supposed to go to France to rescue an aristocrat, but ended up hiding in his lodgings and getting said aristo from Mrs Miggins' Pie Shop!
(Search the Sigs store at Dishforth this instant!)

No disrespect to the upper echelons, but maybe the foundations may prove to be an undoing.

I would have liked to have posted a poll but that facility seems to have gone. Points would be:

Will the expedition leave on time?
Will clearances really have been given?
Will the backup be sufficient?
Will the aircraft itself return with it's wheels?
Why aren't they converting to Apache?
Are our taxes still paying for the teams wages?
Does the CO 9AAC still wash his hands of the enterprise?

I wish you well, honestly, but somehow.......
Now, I can see the banter but it is intermingled with some rather large hints of snipes, bitterness and a general attack of the challenge. A thin veneer of lightheartedness with a deeper sheen of resentment.

I did promise myself I wouldn't add to this thread anymore but it continues to appear to be an anti-attempt propaganda message from a few people.

zeeoo, I think you could be right! Im sure some feel they have been short changed by a lack of responce but if I had to read some of the c*ap on here, I wouldnt bother either. And to think some of these guys used to drink in the same crew room! Anyone would think some of the team had shagged the mothers of some of the posters here!!

WG,
yes, i think that there's fiinally no reason for B or his management to argue on such serious things on this kind of forum .. this is not a court , no one is forced to witness or sware... finally it's normal..
but the damage is when others talk while others just don't care.. the whisper quickly comes to a shout, or should i say a preach.. then the damage is done... the rumour is launched..
this thing happened to me... if you don't kill every chance of rumour by clarifying or attacking then you will be the prey (i can't say the fox anymore ).. and, generally, the people that speak in your back don't have a kind of "honnor code", that's more Machiavel : anything goes.
thanks

and yes the mothers, sisters and girfriends are an incredible source of troubles

Lol zeeoo! How very true.

I wonder if Ellen MacArthur would have had such a 'following' if she failed in her challenge?

Well, we would have to go back in time to express our thoughts before she set off wouldn't we!!

How on Earth can anyone compare what Ellen put herself through, to the GE project?

Paula Radcliffe, now thats a comparison ,allegedly.

I find that hard to swallow. From what I can remember, the flow of this thread was started well before the challenge ended. Correct me if Im wrong but the posts going against the challenge started even before GE left MW!

You asked what 'IS' your major problem!

I wonder if you have you read the thread, as this has been covered before.

I refer to my previous post on page 8 on this thread.

Mmm, I feel your answer is not the question I asked. Its maybe the result and not the motive. Oh well, I tried.
