Hi helimutt, if you fly a 'G' reg machine it's first movement to rotor stop but rotor start to rotor stop for pretty much every other JAR country.

Yes you have to do them again sadly, but you don't have to take an approved ground school as you've already done this for the ATPL's.

Once you've done the 7 they are good for another 3 years...

That makes good sence but would you ditch with one good engine if the fire was out. I know we can't be sure that the machine has not been damaged in the fire but even an engine failure without a fire...

On finals to a rig in bad weather at 200 feet over the water, wind 40kts+. Fuel allows only one approach and the diversion is an hour or so...

I might be wrong on this but as far as I know as long as you are enrolled in a recognised course your IR's are still being held. This might give you a little more breathing space...

Maybe a solution is to put in a lighter engine that produces the same power.

The old Lycomings are quite heavy for the power they produce but I guess that's why they are pretty reliable.

I used to get terrible leg and back pains after only about 1.5 hours flying but now I use the Tempur-Pedic seat and back cushion and I've had no problems since, even flying up to about 4 hours...
