Y'all Gotta Know How to Fly

Couldn't agree with you more for those who have commented on basic flying skills required to land the MD.

For those who haven't flown it, well, there are those who have, and there are those who...

QDM v QFU

The correct Q code for runway heading is QFU. Period! (ICAO Doc. 8400 or, ACP 131E)

ILS QDM? How about LOC's QDM, to be correct.

So, it should read: a check of the LOC's QDM against the...

FMC fuel entry - MD11 with MEL 28-41-xx

If the FQIS is giving an erroneous indication, it is a simple matter, after starting one engine, to go to the FMC INIT page - FUEL, and deselect FQ (fuel quantity).
By doing this, the FOB is...

EVA Air B744 Runway Excursion RCTP

Okay, I'll ask the obvious question:

Did QF74 use de-rated thrust for TKOF, and what was CLTHR (CLTHR1 or CLTHR2)?

On occasion, de-rated TKOF and CLTHR can be the same.

0100LT 28MAY in ANC

None - a few points of order/clarification are needed.

ANC has mountains to the north east - these would not effect either the departure off 25R or the GA off 14 (either published or assigned...

Careful about using the T-bone headset (P/N 258260).

The definitive Catch 22:

There was only one catch and that was Catch-22, which specified that a concern for one's safety in the face of dangers that were real and immediate was the process of a...

Smile A380 - almost a pleasure to pax on

Had to do a quick positioning flight last Monday - BNE/SYD/LAX/ORD. The best part was on the A380 - quiet, and plenty of leg room. Great IFES with a multitude of movies to choose.
And yes, I was...

Vref - here are some numbers

With a MLW of 213.8T, the MD11 VREF is 163KIAS. VAPP is nominally VREF +5 = 168KIAS. With a gust factor of 20kt or additives to VREF of up to 20kt, VAPP can get as high as 183KIAS.

I seem to...

Griffo - er, No

9 Shackles - very convenient

If you think 1hr 30min delay is something to write about, try 3hours to taxi out, and 2:45 to get to the gate.

Oh, and...
