B737 NG No leading edge ext lights

On approach today we start selecting flaps but as we select flaps one needle moves but no green light. Flaps five no green light but the flaps have moved and the leading edge devices have extended....

No. My question was why move the lever at all as the flaps will extend using the alternate method. What is the reason for setting the lever to 15?

In my 737 FCTM it is recomended to have EAI on in the climb and descent if there is a chance of icing but not in cruise. Would someone enlighten me on why no EAI in cruise?. Even in the 10 to -40c...
