The CPL allows you to earn money by flying. But you have to have a license which allows you to fly the aircraft. AFAIK you have to have an FAA license to fly N reg aircraft.

My first 800 hours were on light singles and then I moved onto biz jets. I could have got the EASA ATPL when I hit 1,500TT, but left it to 2,200 as there was no incentive.

That's almost correct. Just check if the lens is compatible with full frame. Most lenses are. In Canon's range, only the EF-S ones aren't.
