The CPL allows you to earn money by flying. But you have to have a license which allows you to fly the aircraft. AFAIK you have to have an FAA license to fly N reg aircraft.

My first 800 hours were on light singles and then I moved onto biz jets. I could have got the EASA ATPL when I hit 1,500TT, but left it to 2,200 as there was no incentive.

I looked into this 3+ years ago. You will have trouble finding any information as there are no specific requirements for "dual rated" pilots. They just have to go through twice as many tests.
