Flying down the northern side of HK Island.
The old HQ building, HMS Tamar can be seen on the left hand side of the picture.
The LS was on the jetty sticking out into the harbour. Possibly the most glamourous site around, then.

With a Rolls Royce engine and leather seats, how can it get much better?

The bulges in the doors were to allow the stretcher/extended seat to fit in. We did have the capability for external stretcher pods, (as seen on M*A*S*H), but casevac was fairly rare. I can assure you that to be in an external pod is not a pleasant experience!
Out of interest, those with keen eyesight may see a white line down the port side of the cockpit area.

Firefighting Astar
Here's some photos for all you AS350B2 fans out there...:-) It's a nicely equipped and maintained Astar owned by Rogers Helicopters (Fresno, California). The first two photos show it lifting 120 gals. of water out of a 10,000' MSL lake in the San Juan National Forest of Colorado in mid-July.
This photo is the same helicopter in Glacier National Park in Montana later in the year on the Morningstar Fire. We were at 9,000 ft. lifting full 144 gal. buckets.
Kudos to Bill Pool of Boeing in Phoenix for the photos. He does wildland firefighting for a hobby! He takes a couple weeks off from his regular job every year so he can eat smoke and shoot pictures.

One of the better ways of getting troops into the jungle.
Brunei was one of the few places where you could abseil/rappel from 200 ft. (as that was about the height of the canopy!)
However there were clearings in which to land normally.
One of the main tasks was re-supply for exercising troops.
Because of the DA/weight, only enough fuel was carried for 1 or 2 supply runs at a time.
The other way to fly rotary in Brunei!
The Sultan of Brunei flew on internal visits in his luxurious Blackhawk.
The inside was/is trimmed in gold.

If you tried that approach (3rd pic) into 121 these days you'd hit one of the few overhead powerlines that goes off into the ulu (towards Buau/LP 108...)
Must find my 2001 shots of the same S70 showing the kid-leather seats, the gold buckles and the industrial-strength air-conditioner some time...

AAAh, leather seats.
It seems only the side bits get leather these days!
As for the air conditioner, we could certainly have done with that on board after a long day in the ulu!
Perhaps thats why we flew around with the doors off..mmmm
Power lines? You'll be telling me that the 'Tiger' plant doesn't really grow wild next.

That one was shot on a slip. The shooter gutted it right there on the side of the hill and left the guts for the wild pigs.

Autorotate: Why is there a need to shoot out of a helicopter when deer hunting. I'm not asking from an animal rights perspective or anything just seems a little Macho or OTT maybe! Is it part of a deer cull? Fantastic pictures By the way really enjoying them.
