Police UH1H taking off to a clandestine airstrip where a King Air 350 had just landed with a load of narcotics. There were 9 heavily armed men onboard the helicopter.

Here are a couple of shots of an operation I was involved in in the middle east.

But then I had to come back to the reality of slogging away at the training. This is one of the Heliflight students practicing sling loads.

Exclamation

Having looked with envy at John's photos of the "rich life", I found some old shots of the steam driven Navy

826NAS with a stream landing, HMS Eagle about October 1971 (checking the log book, I'm in 142 on 5 spot, with Chris Waite as P2! We were returning from a fly past at Sembawang, not sure what for?)

Fly One, HMS Eagle, around the same time. Looking at the sea surface, it would appear a calm day. Looks can be deceiving!

A few vintage pics, at the request of HeloPilot. More from other places later. These came from a rummage through an old Canadian Forces PR file in Halifax. No idea where & when they were taken.

Piasecki HUP-3; the DA probably helps with the ability to lift more than a mail sack.

Somewhere a bit warmer, Miami?

This is at RAF Valley, Whirlwind 10 from the Search and Rescue Training Unit. This crevice near the base was used for training winchmen/operators. I'd bet they still use it, so if anyone finds a lens cap in there you know where to send it.

May Rotorheads Calendar Directly from Nicaragua!

Well no, I'm not really in Nicaragua, those of you who thought I might have been the lucky one to get locked up in a cell with 4 exotic dancers

That wasn't me

Which brings me to the fact that the May calendar is ready and can be downloaded
HERE!

This has been one of my favorites, I hope you like it.

Thanks to Flying Lawyer for the great picture!

From a photographic viewpoint, gorgeous photo. Beautiful lighting, nice movement in the blades. Great choice.

Well done BlenderPilot.
It's a beautiful photograph of a helicopter that will go down in history as a classic.

BTW, when I dowloaded the photo I could see a bar at the bottom with details of the picture but when I set it as my desktop the bar disappeared.
Do I need to change any settings?

Datacon,

Since the background image takes up the entire desktop, your Windows Taskbar is covering the lower portion of the graphic. To see the caption properly, follow these steps:

If Windows 2000:

1) RIGHT Click your Taskbar
2) LEFT Click "Properties"
3) On the "General" tab of the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" dialogue box, SELECT "Auto hide"

If Windows XP Home or Windows XP Professional:

1) RIGHT Click your Taskbar
2) LEFT Click "Properties"
3) On the "Taskbar" tab of the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" dialogue box, SELECT "Auto-hide the taskbar"
