Rotorway exec

Hey,

Was asked by a private owner if I could do some instruction in his Rotorway exec. I don't know much about these helis, only that they look a bit plastic and seem like even more of a toy than a 22.
Anyone out there fly them or have flown/instructed in them? Anything I should watch out for etc,etc??

I have flown a few of them and there is only one thing to watch out for and that is getting in it

I've never flown one, as at 6' 3", I just don't fit in. But two of my friends have them, and both fly them very well. They seem to be a reasonable machine. If I decide to fly without a helmet, and with a squinched neck, I might try one.

I bought one a couple of years ago...have done about 55 hours on type, and I love it...
...that said, they're not for everyone so the question "what are they like"? is a bit vague...I always recommend to anyone that's interested to get in one and go fly before making any decisions...perhaps your best point to start would be RotorWay International Australia

Hi

The latest one, the A600 Talon does have a governor.

I believe Talons are happily flying in Aus, though our authorities have yet to approve them....2 1/2 years in the waiting so far

Hey Parasite I watched your video first time round and was well impressed. What did you learn to fly in and how did you find the transition assuming the one you learned to fly in had a governor and the blades rotated differently. I've heard the Talon is almost there, should be interesting but wish the fuel capacity was a bit higher.

Hi BVGS

I cut my teeth a long time ago on a governor-less 269c and then owned a share in a 269a, again without governor so I didn't really need to adapt to the Rotorway. Similarly one just takes in their stride the opposite m/r rotation differences and right skid low attitude etc.

The Australian Rotorway guys do a 3 hour range option, but it's not allowed here and I believe even Rotorway aren't that keen either...

Over here you can have a Helipac fitted between the skids, and carry some spare fuel in that

Thanks to all

Thanks JJ, your help and enthusiasm during the type rating made the whole experience one of the best things I've had the good fortune to do.
Thanks to Geoff Connelly for carrying out the LST today too.
Looking forward to many great times in my new machine and glad to see It seems to have prompted a couple of more Jocks to come down and see for themselves what they are missing!!

Not quite sure what you mean by that Hillberg, but we're not allowed RW turbine conversions across the pond anyway..........

Ah, the Bell 47. One of my all time favourites, like many watching MASH my first exposure to the world of rotory machines.
Heard a couple of guys from up here are hoping to go for a spin in Heliair's 47 soon.
