320 US a day, and they wonder why they have a crew shortage, that is early 90's pay maybeb But not 2006, nothing less then 650 now for a offshore driver, wether it be 212/412 or not. 650 is even low balling now in some parts.

Terribly sorry to disappoint you, my friend, but you are in for a HUGE surprise if you really believe what you wrote in that post of yours......15 to 20% plus new accommodation in 2008? Not in a month of sundays...

So true 412, ADA has a large leak at the moment, pilots flowing out the door, there are south americans replacing them, only problem is the ones that are/ or have left are all experienced pilots, The former chief pilot, A TRI, 3 line trainers, and the balance (another 4 or so) have over 4 years service. ADA has no such payrise, and the rathole that those boys put up with is beyond me. what would cause so many to leave all at about the same time? The answer to me is obvious, its a very poor employer, and they have deep pockets and extremely short arms.

The news on the construction of the new accommodation came directly from the mouth of the architect supervising the project in AD. I **** thee not! Of course, why would ADA bother to tell their staff about this before hand and ruin the surprise (and thereby perhaps encourage people to stay for the extra dosh they have now got?).
Patience is a virtue - but not if you're already in the 'vans, of course!

Out of balance your tag really suits you, but lets just put the rads kit on you for a minute. Get out of your room one day and take a walk around the camp? There is a little place called Van 7 where there is more beer than you could possibly drink. Or you could try Van 11, Van 9 or Van 6. As for women, they too are in abundance albeit you my have to throw them a few dirhams for the pleasure of their company.
Sure the accommodation is crappy but the at least the guys here a good bunch to have a beer with.

I have no doubt whatsoever that you do offer the most genial company and coldest beer (let alone other delights, expensive or economical) to tempt my palate, sadly I am not resident with you in your Abu Dhabi Gypsy splendour! I do know from experience, however, that you have a fine bunch of fellows at ADA and work valiantly on under less than ideal conditions. You are, of course, not alone in this region in such endeavours!
May your beers be ever frosted and your ladies ever warm to the touch! I may drop around some day and take you up on one offer or another!

Apologies..... the pay rise WAS on the cards until all the company dosh got wasted on the Dubai stock-market property dump of late. Sorry guys - looks like someone was a little frivolous with your pay-rise! Plonkers!

Actually we were giving some subtle hints. However, one of the best things to do on PPRUNE is to "Seek and ye shall find"
Use the search facility before you ask a question as you will often find that plenty of people have asked or contributed to a similar one before.

To be more helpful to our Australian friend, the average pay in the Gulf for ATPL(H) 412/212-rated IR Captains starts at about US$335 and for Cojos US 185. Of course this depends entirely on which company you are looking at, whether you have the ratings or will need training, how much experience you have offshore - are you willing to work in Ira,. Sudan, Yemen, etc etc all of which usually sweeten the pot somewhat. Also the lower pay compnaies usually ofer good to fair accomodation. Very few offer 6:1 contracts. Mostly they want 6:6 or 8: 4 people. We all hope to see the pay improving with the New year as demand increases elsewhere for experienced hands, and whilst numbers thin very noticeably in some of the Arabian Gulf companies as pastures new get greener (as in dollars!). ok while digging into the 412 that crashed, apparently on the same day a bk 117 of the U.A.E police crashed as well. Not sure what it was doing but all pax got out ok. anyone with more to add?

G'day all.
What are job prospects like over there at the moment? I was going to ask which companies are most preferred but me thinks I will get an array of responses! I have searched the net (as best I can!) for info on helicopter companies in the gulf region however thought this would be the place to get a pilot's perspective. Have enquired about FAS and EHI - was most interested however seems they have their quota of pilot's at present.
Can anyone provide some more info on possible employment opportunities in the gulf (or surrounding region) and a pilot's opinion (may have openned a can of worms there!) on working there.

A general look thru this thread will identify which companies operate here in the Arabian Gulf.
As you've found out you won't get a look-in with FAS or Evergreen without an ATPL-H (and I/R) and an "old boy network contact"!
ADA are at the moment hireing ..... particularly if you speak Spanish!
You will however HAVE to work in IRAN ('cos nobody else wants to go there).
Again you will need an ATPL I/R and a sense of humour, and plenty of patience!
.... I think this week the embargo on employing Aussies and Kiwi's is suspended???? Don't know about next week though!
