Flying in the Persian/Arabian Gulf
No need to go straining the digestive system ambi!! All that roughage would be hell for a couple days. Merely pointing out that the situation didn't change with the appointment of DU, and won't change with the appointment of this new Ops guy. Go there for the money and the time off. When the money isn't good enough anymore, move on. With Big Mo in charge, things will definitely change at GHC, but it won't be for the better. Not for ex-pats anyway. Shame...
Knowing Ambi's culinary skills....the hat would be an improvement in his diet actually. He does a mean "Beans on Toast" I might add.

I worked with DU at Gulf before, and then at ADA. He is quite the "hail and well met" kind of guy, but is much more concerned with his politicking then his supervising. If your a real good wrench, keep your head down or you will be down the road pretty quick...Dave dont like any competition...
If that is "standard setting".....oh,my!
I would think he would keep the Goodun's and run off the Politicians if he is the Eye Wash and Snake Oil dealer type.

It looks as if nothing ever changes in the Gulf then - at least not for at least the last 10-15 years. Agree about DU - more a politician than an engineer or administrator. As for FL - well I think SASless post says it all. From what I hear from friends still at ADA nothing changed there either - still empty promises, awful houses, lousy masters, huge turnover. Aerogulf still the nicest place to work of the big operators, but the worst money and not quite the great place some would like to think, otherwise why would a pilot leave there to go to Kish? Yes Bubia's a nice place to live - if you make multo dollares - but with ADA or Aerogulf you'll never do that.

They had a she before, a very credible ex-RNZAF QHI, but they wouldn't let her fly, perhaps because she wouldn't service Zaabi. Maybe the new girl is more accommodating!

From what I hear the UAE GCAA is a total joke. You an get whatever you want past them, if you give them suitable gifts!!
I suppose its the same as Africa, just annother 3rd world country, just with money, but no standards or idea's on what constitutes safe practice.

But even if true, remember it is Nigeria!! LOL
500 USD per day in the GOM for daytime VFR JetRanger pilots....and Louisana is very slightly better than Nigeria.
Pay rates
As an S76 chariot driver in Greater Yarmouthinium you can make US$800/£450 per day & the chances of being shot by the Met.Police are minimal!

Interesting that the Horizon website 'Meet the Instructors' hasn't changed in the last 8 months - i guess if they removed all those who had left, there'd be none there!

It's a laugh - B206s and Squirrels- i think not.........
As for AC, he used to boast of place on the Sheikhs flight. Perhaps his students have told the sheikh what he's really like.

ah yes ambi, but in Great Yarmouth you can only fly as a cojo as a freelancer and they only offer you work for a week or two at a time. Then there's that horrible survival suit they have to wear there mush of the year and that horrible thing called taxandinsurancedeductions which makes the cash in hand only about $560 per day. Granted the met may not shoot you if you don't have a beard and a name starting with Ali-something .
Rotor driver, CHC is paying that much, and remember Nigeria isn't the Middle east - LOL
SASless, Louisiana slightly better than Nigeria . I think I prefer Nigeria - fewer people shot in the streets(?), fewer helicopter crashes, cheaper, stronger beer and no Burger king
However, I think the point has been made that actually the money is better almost everywhere than in the Middle East where, apart from UAE, the flying is mostly dull and the lifestyle lousy.

Rotordriver,
I would assume that is the Medevac 214 gig in the Philippines with Evergreen that you refer to.
If so...and one retains a residence in the USA....you will find the IRS will soon separate you from some of that hot cash to which you refer. Whether you pay Social Security or not will depend upon how and who pays you. If it is Evergreen in McMinnville....you better get your purse open. Your first 80,000 USD will be tax liable if you remain out of the country for less than the required number of days and do not establish a bona-fide overseas residence. Anything over that amount is taxed. (Unless the tax law has changed since a few months ago.) If you are an Independent Contractor then you have other expenses to bear that detract from that sum. I assume you have Workman's Comp, Short Term/Long Term Disability Insurance, Ex-patriation and Medical Insurance? The other thought is whether you have the necessary work credit with the Social Security Administration to qualify for Retirement, Disabililty, Medicare, and/or Medicaid when the time comes. That working overseas is fine but one has to either make a large wad of money that will take care of your retirement and self funding of medical care in your old age or have a retirement plan that accomodates all that.
If it is Evergreen some things are certain. No benefits and no expectation you will be anything more than a temporary employee at which point you will be on your own even more so than you are now with them.
The Major downside to that gig is Evergreen itself....and that is a thread unto itself.
Note....
Your friend can re-claim excess Social Security deductions and excess income tax when he files his Federal Income Tax. That 120 USD deduction includes Federal/State income tax along with Social Security and Medicare deductions and some other deductions too I am sure.
