Hour building

Try Ocean Helicopters in West Palm Beach, Florida for cheap hourbuilding. They regularly have ferry flights in R22's and R44's and offer R22 hourbuilding time at $150/hr. Their instructors have over 1000 hrs and are very experienced at cross country ferry missions.

www.oceanhelicopters.com

They have a trip coming up in the next week from Florida to Maine, approx 20 -25 hours. Its a great way to build hours cheaply, quickly and gain vast real world cross country flying experience. Ideal for CFI's who have qualified in the Schweizer and need Robby time or for CFI's who have qualified with low time and need a few extra hours for the SFAR sign off.

mmm - I have just purchased an R22 IFR trainer from that neck of the woods - so if the person that ferries Ocean's machine up there fancies flying my machine back on the return leg to the same airport in Florida for a similar deal then please PM me!

Question New York R22 Hire

Hi again all.

In September I will be over in the USA and I am planning on 3 days in New York city before returning to the UK , so I was wondering if anyone could recommend a school which has R22s or R44s that I could book a few hours in to do some sightseeing over the big apple .

I thought of contacting Boatpix but thought against it as it will be the last few days of September so not really big sailing time , also I believe they only really like people who like to build lots of hours when all I want is a little sightseeing time.

People on this forum have helped me in the past with various questions and hopefully this time will be no different.

I believe in recommendation so please help with goods places to look into or bad places to avoid.

Please feel free to PM me if you wish.

Thanks in advance Chester

LA Traffic Watch

Has anyone got any updated information regarding the Hour building on the 206 in LA with either Commader Chuck or Philiipe at Van Nuys.

I am thinking of doing it for a week for the experience only, not towards any specific rating and just want recent feedback.

Also any must do things whilst in LA other than the normal tourist stuff ?

25 hrs - on the hurry up !!!

I'd appreciate a heads up from any one who has very recently done some hour building with any of the news / traffic reporting heli operators in the US.

If you've just been with one of these companies or are there now I would be extremely grateful if you could PM me.

Many thanks,

Look very very carefully at how time is logged. Are you rated on the aircraft, who is P1 etc; FAA rules are different to JAA and if you're doing this for JAA purposes, you could be caught out.

Cheers

Whirlygig,

Thanks for the advice. To be fair I am relatively au-fait with the training regs on both sides of the pond however I do appreciate you looking out for a fellow pruner. I merely need 25hrs of compressed hands on refreshment - ideally in a 44 or a 206.

I recall an outfit in Virginia who did just that but for the life of me cannot find them on-line. My web-search skills are abysmal.

Hour building with R22 - SFAR, visa?

Do I need a visa for SFAR training with Robinson R22 in USA?

I have JAA PPL-H and I don't have R22 type rating (and what if I would have the the JAA type rating without the required hours). This means that I need the special SFAR training to be able to fly and log hours as pilot in command.

My intention is to fly the R22 to build hours and I would like to know if I need a visa for that required SFAR training in US?

You need a visa for any flight training in the USA. Probably an M1 visa

You also need to do the TSA security stuff if you are not a US citizen

Yes, it's an endorsement in your logbook. But.... it is still classed as "flight training". You will probably get away with it, if you're good at lying when the immigration guy asks "what's the purpose of your visit?". Providing of course the flight school is willing to go along with you being on a visa-waiver.

Yes, this is exactly why I asked and that's nearly what I thought as well. I also asked the consulate and hopefully will get an official statement - will post it here.

And regarding the TSA, I think that is not needed since the R22 is below the weight limit and I already posses a PPL.

This is how they replied and went around the problem:

"Your program sponsor should know if and what kind of visa will be needed for this training program. More information available at www.tsa.gov 'What we do' - 'Alien Flight student Program'."

So, it seems that it is more or less as discussed here lately. IT's much up to the actual company providing the training and hopefully there is no need for any extra efforts.

***Here is some info now that I have done all this in practise: ***

No need for the TSA AFSP unless you are doing IR or initial ratings (e.g PPL). Actually you don't even need a student visa if you do the training as "part time" (<20 h / week), but naturally you can't count on this. It really depends a lot on the company and the local aviation administration i.e FAA/FSDOs and immigration officials.

Bell 206 Type Rating

I'm currently hour building towards the CPL (40.3 hours to go!) I've decided to do a Bell 206 type rating, and I'm just after suggestions/recommendations or some advice on places to do the rating?

I live in the South East (UK)

Hi all, I'm currently based in NE Oklahoma, so as far as possible from either east or west coast, where the weather is fair and the flying is affordable!

I'm looking for some (preferably turbine) hour-building towards CPL(H). I currently only have 250 turbine hours and 300 total hours. I want to increase that in the most affordable way, of course.

I am game for anything, but with limited funds am struggling around here to find a gig. Any links or advice appreciated.

Just bear in mind that those prices are ex VAT i.e. multiply their cost by 1.15. I would also suspect that landing fees are also excluded (which are also subject to VAT).

Cheers

Whizzard Helicopters

I am doing my hour building with Whizzard, and they are basically a good bunch over there. There are no landing fees at Welshpool when you use one of their heli's but the prices are plus VAT.

If you want to know any more bits about them then PM me

Thanks for the link biggles. Amongst the cheapest R22 pricing i've seen in the UK. I'll definetly check them out for some hour building.
