Aer Lingus Trainee Pilot Scheme
For all those who have passed the usual age for airline cadet programs, here's a refreshing change from Aer Lingus.
In their FAQ section and within their recruitment & careers section, it is stated:

And then to top it all, on the subject of Direct Entry pilots:
Seems far too good to be true, but it is there in black and white on their website!
Any Aer Lingus people want to help clarify this one?

Sorry to dash your hopes but...
A new law has come into effect in Ireland in the last year where it is illegal to place an age restriction (except for under 18's) on job advertisments. It is against the Equal Status Act which bans descrimination by age, gender, etc. Chances are that if Aer Lingus, or any other company for that matter, consider you too old they will just make up some other excuse not to offer you the job.
Ryanair were recently fined £5000 for placing an ad which was looking for "young energetic people".
Also, Aer Lingus are in deep **** with major losses expected this year. I have heard that they do not plan to run any Cadet program in the forseeable future.

Aer Lingus are not likely in the foreseeable future to take on any more cadets.
At the age of 36, I went through this process with them 2 years ago and I can tell you from the horses mouth 'age is a factor' as one recruitng pilot told me. There is no way they or anyone else would ever take on a cadet past there late 20's. Direct entry is of course a different matter.

Sorry Capt Wannabe but i'm afraid BillyFish2 is more correct here.
I know of *one* cadet over 30, he was thirty-one and had spent the previous 10 years working as an aircraft engineer down in SNN(737s etc....).
Whilst the law states they can't discriminate on age the simple fact is they do.
I know this puts a bit of a downer on it but if you're over 30 unless there are some very particular mitigating factors (eg above backround) there isn't a hope you'll be chosen before some of the younger ones.

I know with most airlines they look for a return of service, well if your in your late 30's you can only realy give back say 20 years where as if your in your 20's you can give back about 30 or so years of service.
(Whether this is true or not I don't know) Sunstate Airlines isn't hiring anybody under the age of 30. I think this is due to pilots staying with them for a short period of time and moving on. There was an instance I heard of where a pilot was only online with them for about 3 weeks and went onto a major. (Please correct me if I am wrong as these two statements were only rumours)
But for the sake of all of us wannabes it's a shame that Air Lingus isn't taking on any more cadets for a while.

There are a few more i admit and to those in this catagory i wish the best of luck.
But i feel despite the 'official' gen from Aer Lingus they will always go for the younger guy/gal all other things being equal.
That said this could all be academic if there's anything in the current rumours (ie no more cadets for the foreseeable future and some debate about where to put the cadets already in training!)

We have all heard the rumours about Aer Lingus not running the Cadet scheme this year. But has anyone had anything concrete from Aer Lingus??
I emailed them in March, and they were a bit vague but they said that they should announce details towards the end of summer and to keep an eye open at the website, aviation magazines and the Irish press.
Now obviously things change, and reading about difficulties at Aer Lingus it does seem extremely unlikely.
