I applied in spring and was rejected after the CV/ reason for applying phase. Does anyone have any recommendations of things I could do to improve my application for the next cycle? (Other tha writing a better reason!)

I'm well pleased as im only 18 years old, but I have worked hard on this.
Are there any other of you younger applicants get through too?
Commiserations to those who didn't get the news they wanted. Keep going!

you've got time on your side. I applied for the old Ba scholarship they used to run but had my application cancelled because of 9/11. To my knowledge, there have been no other schemes like this since then (expect last year of course). If this becomes a regular process then you've got more opportunities than some of us older folk.

Anyone got any specifics on the Skyborne assesment day? StephenAV8 mentions a competency interview as expected but I can't find a whole lot on other tests except a post above mentioning no maths/physics, just spatial reasoning etc.

As others have said, you have time on your side. Don't let this discourage you.

By all means, keep trying with sponsorships when the opportunities arise, but don't let them be your plan A. Do your degree, get qualified to establish a secure career, and plan to train modular, gaining valuable life experience along the way. These schemes are incredibly cut-throat and should be seen as a bonus instead of your only chance.

My heart has also always been in aviation, and I'm by no means yet a professional pilot, but I am so glad I took people's advice when they told me to treat flying as a second career. Multiple events, most recently the pandemic, have shown us that you never know what is around the corner - had I put all my eggs in the flying basket, I would not be in the financial position to fund my training.

If you want it badly enough, you'll always find a way. Take it from someone who has faced and overcome failure in many aspects of life: keep moving forward. The coming years of your life will fly past and you'll be amazed when you look back and see how far you've come.

All the best mate.

I got my acceptance too for skyborne. I managed to get to the final stage last year and was offered SSP instead of speedbird academy, unfortunately I don't have the funds to progress down that route.

I can confirm what happened last year, which was online aptitude testingtestingside a good couple of hours for it, and then an interview at BA HQ Waterside. Whether its changed this year or not i dont know.

ONLINE APTITUDE TESTING You will be sent a series of tests that, in combination, have proven to be good predictors of future performance, both in training and as a pilot. These tests can all be completed online and a link will be sent to candidates as part of the application process to access the test site and complete the tests. The sort of tests you will be asked to complete might include:- Multi-tasking ability- Monitoring ability- Applied numeracy- Numerical Reasoning- English (where English is not your first language) Achieving a minimum standard of performance in these tests is essential for being considered for the next stages of the selection process. To understand a little more about these tests and try some out, click here: https://assessment.aon.com/en-us/onl...ce-assessments Even though we will be sending these tests out to you to complete in your own time, there will also be other opportunities for us to verify the outcome of your responses when we conduct your online assessment event

From Skyborne's Preparation Page - it's worth noting that the same link is posted for Speedbird Pilot Academy on their page, so now we know what we're up against.

Why would you want to support your competition? Am I missing something? Why are you sharing information that you've found out yourself, if ultimately these are the people trying to take your spot? Whatever information you come across, keep to yourself. Your only reducing your chances of success and improving the hand of your opposition.......

Only once you've been awarded the scholarship....then you work as a team? No?

Does this mean that the CUT-E tests are not being used for this assessment? Is it just those multiple-choice questions akin to the previous assessments?

Happy news all around! I wish all of those who got in good luck and those who didn’t- there’s always next year or other opportunities to be had; don’t dismay 💐🥰

any ideas/speculation on what the group exercises might entail? 🫢🤭

Thanks again for all the encouraging words- in terms of 18 year olds having the odds against them, I said this because of one of the BA webinars I attended where they stated only 1 18 year old got a place. That being said, it’s great to hear that others my age have got through! I hope you all fly through the assessment process and land in the right hand seat within a few short years.

I'm not sure that you have the odds against you - Las time, if 'only' one got through, the real stat is how many applied?

Also, as you don't really need any other life experiences, and you have the aptitude and skills for the test, which are not age related, then you have as much chance as everyone else!

So put this age thing out of your mind, focus on your strengths and write a first class motivation statement (and why you want to work for this airline). Do your research on the airline, and weave the findings into your motivation statement.

If you want some coaching, advice, interview skills, and feedback on your statement, then send me a private message and I'll support you in your applications (assuming you apply for others too) and I will give you pointers right down to what to wear and how to ask intelligent questions (formally and informally). How to build subtle rapport at an assessment centre or an interview - the stuff that few people consider!

For the avoidance of doubt, I'm not a business and I'm offering this to you free of charge as gesture of goodwill. I don't know you from Adam, but if you're prepared to put in the work, then I'm prepared to help you.

Again, to be clear, I will offer advice, guidance and coach you. I'm not going to write the statement or come up with your competency based interview questions, you have to do that. That's what I mean about doing the work. The work is the preparation.

Olympians spend 4 years training for a competition. Play the long game and you WILL be successful.
