Might be worth doing this to get some real world experience that will stand you in good stead at airline assessment.

Have you got any flying experience? Could be worth going on a trial flight with a larger modular ato to show the funders how good modular instructors and schools are in general

I may well do - I already have 50 hours from my teenage years but admittedly not at a larger modular ato.
On the basis FTE's training is 15 months, I feel if I'm going to work in London there is no imperative to do it before training - they pay enough money for me to keep my hours up were the need to arise!

It is clear I cannot convey my circumstances clearly enough (perhaps some real world experience when I graduate were the market to take a turn for the worse would help with that!) - I really only created the thread to see whether anyone had any input on whether FTE or CAE are a better training provider.

PPL indeed - was to figure out whether I actually liked what the studying entailed as well as just bumbling around in the sky.
Granted my sponsors agreed the instructor was good for my PPL, I can assure you there is no digging them out of the marketing hole of airline partners and putting 18,000 stripes on my shoulders during training!

To answer your question: Both schools meet the same standard. You stand a better chance of joining easyJet with CAE albeit you will be prioritised behind the MPL guys and an easier route to dual licensing with FTE. Horses for courses. You have a lot to learn, good luck.

I get that your sponsors are happy to fork out for integrated - but the fact you have a PPL already means you can get an fATPL for c.£40k - would you not feel slightly guilty given that you're going to allow them to spend up to £100k more than they need to. Regardless how wealthy they may be, 100k is 100k and could be invested into something else to a sizeable return, not least your future should the market enter a down turn post graduation.

You could even float the idea of Aeros fastrack? integrated style course at a modular ato

Thank you - I am acutely conscious I have a lot to learn, being 23 means world experience is limited given for the 3 years where most people develop a lot my generation has been locked at home - at least being in medicine I spent a substantial amount of it working in person vaccinating everybody rather than at a computer.
I'm fairly sure it's an accurate assessment to say the world has gone up a certain creek of late so I'm honestly just trying to make do with the cards I've been dealt - I know my approach is by no means perfect or sensible (were it to be my money that I was spending) but all I can do is try!

Oh they are conscious of the cost difference and I even moreso as it's an outrageous sum of money to enter the profession - for my sponsors it's never about the sum of money but about what they perceive to be the 'right' thing to spend it on: my easy example is the 8.99 for Netflix was off the cards for a while because it wasn't deemed valuable but the AMG Mercedes used to drive to the station and back was valuable!
I will look into the Aeros thing though and see how that pans out.

No need to mention the Merc but point understood.

Best of luck with it all - I'm in close contact with both FTE Jerez scholarship winners having been in the final myself and I can safely say they would both highly recommend the school.

Thank you both (and of course thank you for the Netflix subscription offer - fortunately there is a very large supply of people who can't do basic algebra nowadays so tutoring those kids just about keeps me liquid enough to pay for it )

I've got a lot of phone calls to be had in the next 5 days and I guess I will see where I stand at the end of the week.

You’ll have more fun at FTE than you will at CAE. You could always apply for the BA CF scheme there currently: https://www.ftejerez.com/selection/?company=bacityflyer at £97K all in inc TR it’s actually a very realistic prospect. That’ll get your sponsors wet, you’ll get a hat n’all.

Funnily enough, I threw my hat into the ring for that earlier today, because your last sentence is unfortunately far too valid

I dare say my chances are slim on the basis that they are recruiting a maximum of 8 cadets and they will probably receive say about 10,000 applications?
But you never know, I am a cliche straight A* student so perhaps that will make up for my lack of real work.

There are 9 Pilot core competencies which you will be assessed on. Being an A* student unfortunately is not one of them.

Very true, but on the basis the initial battery of tests is the same as FTE's where my average was very healthy courtesy of being one of the seemingly ever-dwindling number of people who can do maths, it might help my cause indirectly!

There’s a vast difference between the two assessments. One just wants your money, the other looks upon you as a prospective employee. Humility and self awareness goes along way with the latter. They’re not looking for astronauts. If you come across as though the sun shines out of your arse you’ll be out the door before you know it.

I have a 100% track record based on interview feedback (for real work, not ATPL programmes) of not being confident enough in myself - I articulate myself very differently in person - so I wouldn't worry about that. I'm fairly certain my chances of getting a spot are next to zero given I would take people with 10 more years of experience in the world over me if I were at BA but hey, if you don't try you don't get.

Tagged airline schemes prefer to minimise their training risk so they have to look at the bigger picture. There’s always a fine balance between experience, skills/talent and personality/motivation, hence the core competencies I mentioned. Absolutely give it a go, just don’t be a smart ass and you’ll stand as good a chance as anyone else.
