desperate need of your advice plz

hello everybody!!

First of all this is my first message in PPRuNE, I have been reading all the posts for last few weeks and it has very useful for me till now. Thanks you all for the info

Anyways lemme start my story

I am Andy from India, i am 21 and just got my Bachelors degree in Mechanical enginering few months ago. And now i look forward to complte my dream of becoming a airline. I know you must read this kinda message earlier too but guess what i am another one of tthose wannabes!!

So here is my plan for now, i wanted know if i was realistic at all:

Since the aviation industry is pretty dull in India and absence of quality flying schools, i have to decided to get trained abroad, I have 3 countries in my mind USA, CANADA, AUSTRALIA.

I am not rich kid either, so i will taking bank loans and some money that my parents have decided to sponsor. which i plan to repay by working my ass for long long time to come.

I have to schools in mind, ARI BEN (for its multi engine time, which i think and hope is true) and FLIGHT SAFETY ACDEMY (for its quality training, im aware of its cost but i think the laons will cover it)

I plan to finish my traing in any of these schools or maybe anyother that you may recommend....later hopefuly get a INSTRUCTORS JOB and work till my visa expires and gain enough flying hours to try my luck in India or maybe in USA (which i see as a low chance of getting).

i alos looked at few Cadet program but thts a prob coz of citizenship laws.

Do u think Ariben provided instructors job as it says. As far as i have read from the forums , they do say it does but i still ainit sure.

Is FSA a good choice for geting trained? by the look of thier website they look good, but so did other academies that ripped out the students wallets.

As you can all see, i maybe wrong in my plans and confused. i really need all the advice and comments.

Hope my dreams come true

i will be really thankful for all THE HELP
Thanks in advance

God bless and safe flying you all.

No real advice on the schools here, just make sure you go to a school that can get you a J1 visa. You are not allowed to work on an M1 no matter what the promises.
Make clear that if you can not get hired at the school where you train, you will be seeking employment elsewhere. Get in writing from them that they will not cancel your visa as a result of you moving.
Personally I think Flight safety is a little too expensive, a lot of cheaper schools around, less well known but cheaper.
Have you done a search on Ari-Ben on this forum?
Be aware for "cheap" multi time, some of these operators will put two pilots in one plane and have both log the time.
Semi legal under the FAA system but the time will not be appreciated by all other Aviation administrations.
Good luck it's a long road....but very rewarding

I am inclined to agree with B2N2.

Watch out for the really cheap deals. You truely get what you pay for. Some schools have actually tarnished their reputation by stretching the regulations (safety pilots) to look attractive/competitive.

Most importantly such schools are primarily concerned with passing students with the bare minimum than developing the all important skills you will need later in your career.

I too am "desi". There are a lot of decent, middle of the range schools that you can choose from.

Cheers

Thank you B2N2 and SPEED for your tips

I checked few schools which gave me J1 visa( These immigrations lawas and confusing)

Hillsboro aviation and Pelican Avition...any idea about how good these 2 schools are?

I also found out PHOENIX EAST AVIATION provides a good course for some a resonable cost....but i read few posts abt them and looks like the are just for money...is that true?

Is there any other schools that you can recoomend?

anwys i will be doing some more research on this? this is gonna be very long road to take but like B2N2 said , its gonna be rewarding one!!

Needforspeed where did u get trained? and did u leave india for flying career?

Thanks again for the tips

Cheers
Safe flying

Hi there,

I am currently at Phoenix East Aviation and would have to say that I really do not have any complaints. The prices that they quote are the minimum prices for the course so you will have to price over, but all the admissions officers will tell you the same.

The flight training was good and if I had any problems there was always someone willing to help. The school has a very professional attitude and is more than willing to put you in touch with students to get their opinion.

If you have any questions about the school I would be more than willing to answer, good luck in your quest for a flight school.

Thanks for that info shortscot2, i checked thier website and found the PROFESSIONAL PROGRAM 3 comprehensive.

but i would like to know, wht type of visa will the school provide if i decide to choose the PROFESSIONAL PROGRAM 3. I dont want a M1 visa, coz only reason for me to come abroad is to atleast get back home with abt 1000 or more flying hours. which leads to another question:

will i be guaranteed a Instructor job after my training under a J1 visa that is?

how do you think i shld go abt , if i want to join phoenix east ? which course shld i choose?

i will appreciate any advice from you

thanks again shortscot2

will look forward to ur replies

hello again,

The school will issue you a J1 visa which will allow you to get your licences and work for the school afterwards (you get 2 years on this visa). The school will give preference to their own students when hiring flight instructors and it is very rare that they do not hire you after training.

The best thing to do is get in touch with the admissions officers and they will be able to help you. They will be honest with you as they don't like seeing you coming all this way and not getting what was expected. If you want to talk to students who have done the course they will also get you some numbers / email addresses for you. You can contact them from the website or give them a call.

If I can help at all either post on the forum or send a private message.

Good luck on your search for a flight school
