Reading her numerous flowery descriptions of aviation and her views on life in general in that Avaunt article, I wonder if it really was the recently hired PR team that makes up the press releases containing all that romanticized colonial era swashbuckling drivel, she seem quite well versed at bull****ting all by herself.

Jay, has there been any response from the AWPA?
You did indeed Heli, and thank you for doing so. Up until that point I really hadn't noticed as it was another small part of the fiction lost in all the other smoke and mirror tactics.

As for referring to herself as Commander rather than Lieutenant Commander is probably down to her ignorance of the Service. In some of the images she has online she has a couple of them tagged with something along the lines of "...ooh look at me with a Read (sic) Admiral..."

At the end of this article "Editor’s note (June 1, 2016): An earlier version of this story suggested this was a solo flight. It has now been updated to clarify Ms Curtis-Taylor was the only pilot to fly the vintage bi-plane, but she had a support team of engineers travelling with her in a separate aircraft, as well as a camera crew, who would sometimes sit in with her."

http://abc.net.au/news/2016-01-02/female-solo-flight-a-homage-to-aviation-pioneer-amy-johnson/7064324

They didn't fix the photo captions or the URL.

Why One Woman Is Flying Solo Across the U.S.

While Curtis-Taylor's journey will take a month, it’s nowhere near as intense the trips she has taken in the past. Among them? A three-month journey from Kiev, Ukraine to Cape Town, South Africa in 2013; a 9,825-mile trip from Cape Town to Cairo to West Sussex in 2014; and her most recent venture, a three-month, 56-stop, 14,500-mile solo run from Britain to Australia inspired by 1930s aviation pioneer Amy Johnson, the first female pilot to tackle that route solo.
I may be missing something but I can't find any reference to an 'errors and omissions' update from Conde Nast on this story. Surely TCT's team would have written to correct them on the error above - especially as TCT is going to great lengths now to tell us all it was a 'sole' flight?

Put me down on the list of people who are pissed off with her wearing FAA wings. I seem to recall them specifically being described as the 'Military Flying Badge' i.e you had to pass the military course to wear them, not pay until you pass at whichever school she learnt. We'll see her wearing the Victoria Cross next after her 'exploits of bravery'. After all, she's military isn't she and doesn't have to stoop to those civilian medals.

I like to think I worked pretty hard to get both my FAA wings and the stripes she sports and I really object to some fatuous, self-promoting parasite thinking she has the right and qualifications to wear them.

The rest of her achievements are a total sham and those people that still promote her as some sort of idol for women or aviation are either deluded or deceived (but probably both).

Pontius,
".. fatuous, self-promoting parasite .."
Oh, you are cruel, sir.
I'd been led to believe that she's just a poor little girl, all alone in this world, bolstered only by the strength of her convictions,
courage, bravery and altruistic nature.

Anyway, in the picture posted by Jay Sata (#1501, above) it clearly shows TCT posing for the photo, sporting FAA wings,
flanked by three senior members of the Service.
Now, does that indicate approval, PR-pressured studied indifference - or worse?

Just as an aside, can that officer doing the presenting (the one with the trendy, funny haircut and rugby footballer's features)
really be a Rear Admiral in the Senior Service?

Haha, you'll be surprised to know he now has another stripe and is a Vice Admiral. As well as being a high-flyer (well, fairly low as a helicopter pilot) he is also chairman of RN rugby :-)

Hmmm,

In Canada, the members of our military will defend their uniform, and press for charges against a person who wears the uniform without having earned the privilege.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa...ayed-1.3068554

Doesn't that British Military officer owe his fellow members of the military the honour of objecting to a person falsely wearing a British military uniform? ....Instead of presenting an award to her?

It appears that certain knowledgeable people in the UK are slacking on maintaining standards on a number of fronts....

I'm not entitled to wear those wings, nor RAF flight crew insignia, and would never dream of doing so. I have far too much respect for those who have earned them and who, when necessary, have been ready to put their lives on the line for the rest of us.

I have been privileged to share a cockpit with several WW2 veterans as part of Project Propeller and related flights and am struck by the contrast between these genuine heroes who are universally self effacing and modest and Ms Curtis-Taylor who seems intent on "bigging up" this non-achievement and defending an indefensible position.

They put their lives on the line; she puts her lies on the line.

Pass the sick bag, Alice.

Probably, like Zara Phillips' consort, Mike Tindall, a champion dwarf-thrower as well, is he, Pontius?

Back to the script...
I was sitting around at a function last night and caught up with an old friend who, these days, looks after the logistics side of things at Sydney International Airport.
(He refers to himself as a 'glorified rampy and bag-chucker').

In the course of conversation, I asked if the name 'Tracey Curtis-Taylor' rang any bells with him.
No? .. How about, then, in January this year, a 'bird in a biplane' turned up in Sydney, purporting to have flown solo from the UK?
Ohh, yes, - was that the green thing?

Now, this is where it gets interesting.

It appears that Australia's national flag-carrier, QANTAS, at the direction of its CEO, Alan Joyce, downed tools, rolled out the red carpet and hosted a lavish reception for our intrepid aviatrix.
"Wow! .. Positive and, importantly, PC, media coverage has just landed right at our front door! (at moderate cost to us)"

It doesn't then, take too much imagination to conclude that this was very likely at the behest of BOEING, for whom Qantas has been a good customer since 1958.
After all, Boeing, as of just a few weeks ago, were (and, for all I know, still are) spruiking the "solo" claims on their website.

Further, I had confirmation just tonight from a neighbour, an airframe LAME within said firm, that word had come down from above that certain (ahem) 'non-essential' jobs be swept aside so that the 'Spirit of Artifice' could be accommodated, for an undetermined period, within one of the airline's maintenance hangars.

Now, I would have thought that Execujet, over on the GA side of the airport, (one of the TCT scam's formal sponsors), would have been able and, once the photo-ops were finished with, be only too pleased to provide accommodation within their own hangar.

So, y'see, it's not only lazy media hacks and other relatively minor players who've been sucked in to lending credibility to this well-orchestrated fraud.

.

I forgot to include the caption with the photo above.

A group of over 150 friends and supports gathered to bid Tracey farewell, including HRH Prince Michael of Kent, Dame Diana Rigg, Amy Johnson’s niece Judy Chilvers and Rear Admiral Ben Kay (Royal Navy). She was also joined by a number of her partners, including personnel from Global Sponsors Boeing and Artemis Investment Management, as well as representatives from ExecuJet, GIC Re, the GREAT Campaign, Singapore Airlines, the Taj Hotels Resorts & Palaces, Pol Roger, Inmarsat, LiveWire and Cobham SatCom. Tracey will be flying to support the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity on her flight to Australia.

Speaking as her friend took off, Dame Diana Rigg said, “Tracey is doing this in the spirit of all those lady aviators of the past and that is what I love about her, that quality of recognising the endeavour of what has gone before and mirroring it in this era. There are lots of people doing extraordinary things, but [B]Tracey is doing something extraordinary in what is virtually a man’s world and I think we have to stress that. Her knowledge of not just the plane but the engine is extensive and she can hold her own with any man.”
[/B

footnote: Fleet Commander Vice Admiral Ben Kay CBE is the Fleet Commander responsible the provision of ships, submarines and maritime aircraft required to support Royal Navy mandated maritime operations.

Prince Michael of Kent is Honoury Vice Admiral Royal Naval Reserve.

And don't forget Dame Rigg, that bastion of support to GA, Global Commercial Aviation, and commentator on "extraordinary feats in virtually a mans world". Dear God......

So much extensive knowledge of the engine, that 8 engineering support crew were required, who all had a shot at flying it, apparently.

TBH as a bit of an aside Prince Michael is not the only Royal with Artemis links. A quick search of images shows at least one minor Royal couple have become walking billboards for Artemis at high profile sporting events, there's just one example here...

I guess it is good our minor royals are earning a living but it also shows TCT might well benefit from significant top cover when it comes to the awarding of baubles, or attempts to remove the same.

Perhaps if TCT were to orient herself with a moral compass, this topic could be brought to an honourable close.
Step Turn,
I had always thought there was an instrument missing from the panel! Obviously, it must have been removed to make room for the GPS.

maxred,
No, not eight engineering support crew.
Just Ewald himself (with an assistant if required) and .. certainly not Tracey with her "extensive' knowledge" of the airframe, engine and its systems.
She's publicly stated that she hates technology. (ref: The 'Avaunt' article, linked earlier.)

She's flat-out working out where to put the fuel.
Have a look at that posed photo taken during the Africa jaunt, of her up there in her bright white hot pants, "refuelling".

Maybe I'm just a dumb colonial, but surely these idiots are not real military personnel? {commissioned rank even!} It boggles my mind that they simply don't know that this whole affair is a fraud, as for the involvement of Boeing, surely this will boost Airbus sales! As stated by a previous poster, were this picture taken in Canada she, along with those idiots would be in court in jig time, we do not take the false wearing of military insignia lightly on this side of the pond. I intend to get this whole mess on the CBC, maybe it will then be taken up by the BBC!

Interesting angle there clunckdriver -

A quick search and I found a BBC article about a guy who got convicted in 2009 after wearing medals he wasnt entitled to at a Remembrance Day parade in Warwickshire. He was sentenced to Community Service.

The article states -

While it is not an offence to own medals which have not been awarded to you, it is illegal under section 197 of the Army Act 1955 to use these to pretend to be a member of the armed forces. (This act will be superseded by the Armed Forces Act 2006 in November.)
The act makes wearing any military decoration, badge, wound stripe or emblem without authority a criminal offence. It is also illegal to wear a replica "as to be calculated to deceive", and to falsely represent yourself as someone entitled to wear any such award.
Intention is all. Those, such as pop stars Cheryl Cole, Chris Martin and Sgt Pepper-era Beatles, who don military regalia for fashion would not be culpable.
Cheryl Cole, Michael Jackson, Sgt Pepper-era Beatles and Coldplay have all donned uniforms
No mistaking this lot for soldiers
"There have been one or two cases like this one," says Steve Partridge, spokesman for the Ministry of Defence Police. "What we usually deal with is people impersonating members of the armed forces to defraud others - to give them money for charity .............."
Wonder where TCT stands with this.............has she actually been authorised to wear FAA wings?
