Is it a private aircraft, OAA or other? Any ideas?

The latest BBC report said it was a two seater. OAA only operate the seneca, warrior, TB20 and also the Zlin. Only the zlin is a two seater.
Lets hope that the feared reports are wrong.
From what I understand its only a witness who states its a two seater.

RIP guys.

I presume that OAA use the Zlin for aeros (but remember that most eye-witness accounts are notoriously misleading and inaccurate). IMHO definitely not the weather for aeros if that is the case. A tragedy all the same. (This ol' stager has marvelled for over 30 years at Oxford's safety record - considering the number of aircraft in the circuit and surrounding areas at any one time.)

Hang on a minute guys. No one has actually said that it was an OAA plane. If theres fog there I doubt the zlin would have been out! If it is foggy surely it could quite easily be a private pilot who may be lost and tried to get back to Oxford?
Icing??
Thoughts go out to those involed

Whoa there TommyG737..

...we're simply discussing and speculating here... it's what we do! Hence the frequent use of question marks and the word "if". Calm down dear boy... it's not a commercial!

I don't think oxford are using the zlin at the moment I think they're renting out a pitts. That's what they said a month ago at the open day.

I have heard from a friend working at the Airport that it was a N-reg aircraft, so not OAA

Update here:-

Two die in Bladon plane crash (From Witney Gazette)

Although the rush to claim the 'first pictures' seems a little distatsteful to me.

Thanks for the updates guys...

... looks like they were so near.... maybe the (reported) long trail in the snow suggests an attempted forced or precautionary landing?

This news report here, if it is factually correct seems to refute the 'two seater' theory and can set at rest the OAA discussion...............

THE plane which crashed in Bladon today had taken off from Oxford Airport, it has been confirmed.
Two people were killed in the crash.
James Godfray, who is responsible for development at the airport near Kidlington, said the plane, a Piper Navajo, took off at about 2pm.
He said: "It was doing a local flight. As far as I am aware it came down at about 2.12pm.
"It was nothing to do with training at the airport."

Statement from AirMed

We would like to inform you that the aircraft involved is not one of Air Med’s.

It was a privately owned aircraft on the N register.

This is a pilots forum. Let s not have the discussion again about posting or not prior to the AAIB. Pilot come here to learn from the mental exercise of discussing these drama's.

Let s just not post hypothesis as fact, as it could hurt people

PLANE CRASH: More witnesses describe crash (From thisisoxfordshire)

Such witness statements can be unreliable but if true suggest a circling plane with a rough (or two rough) running engine(s), then a "pop" sound and then a crash

RIP to the pilots.
