Tony C

I knew Tony briefly and have found some of the comments here totally unnecessary and demeaning to those of us who fly.

Whether or not Class 1 medicals would have shown up anything, whether N reg aircraft coa are are fault etc are neither here nor there.

What is important is that we have lost a fellow pilot. One who not only flew for a commercial airline but also taught rotary because he loved it and played a part in developing Airparks in Europe and with the open days at Airparc brought all sorts of aviation to those who could or would never have been able to enjoy it....his dream.

So can we leave it that he was one of the good guys who made the world of aviation such an interesting and fun place to be to lots of us and he will be missed by many.

People complain on this forum about speculation... well ive just read that AAIB report and its appears 70-80% of the report was Speculation including the analysis/conclusion

I would think any safety-conscious pilot would be EXTREMELY interested in such matters, and would hesitate to fly with one who wasn't.

It does pose the question why we pay so much for something that can't detect such a dangerous medical condition.

The AAIB (IMHO of course) no longer produce reports that only state the facts. In my three professional dealings with them, I have been singularly unimpressed with the Investigator's technical knowledge and even less impressed with their final reports..

Most GA reports from the AAIB or any other agency are mostly speculation. They have so little data to go on. No FDR, no CVR. It is really only if they find some mechanical explanation that the report delivers a clear verdict.

If they commented on some past pilot behaviour, that might shine some useful light on the psychology which led to the accident, but they rarely mention anything like that.
